Too often, people who have never been suicidal apply logic and reason to these situations. They say “he doesn’t look suicidal” or “he’s not the type of person to take his own life” but there is no type or appearance. Just because you’re “cunning” and intelligent doesn’t mean you won’t take your life. Most people who know someone who committed suicide are surprised and said “there were no signs.” He was part of a huge fraud that ruined people’s lives and he might have been sent to prison. Perhaps he was living it up at the strip club as a last night celebration. And maybe he felt ashamed of his participation and didn’t want to admit it in his suicide note, so he blamed it on his physical pain and ailments. And when you’re about to die, writing your suicide note, you’re not likely paying attention to grammar, spelling, etc.

Absolutely. I gave up listening to this episode with it's idiotic conspiracy theories based on literally nothing at all. Perhaps they should have spent more time interviewing actual experts who know what they're talking about, rather than a bunch of people who clearly know nothing whatsoever about mental health and how it affects people.

@@goffik1980Yes!! Exactly. I was very disappointed that a series from the BBC would present this part of the story with “evidence” that is nothing more than biased gossip and speculation.

💯 he also couldn’t sell his shares, maybe that was his last attempt to try to escape. And yes once he knew what he was facing, he didn’t want to admit what he did, probably to also protect his family

A whole episode dedicated to conspiracy theories created by people who clearly have no idea what they're talking about, particularly when it comes to suicide. Nice way to drag out the series I suppose, but pretty worthless from a journalistic point of view.

Have you ever tried opening an aircraft door while flying at 95kts? Getting out has been described as being "birthed" from the plane, if it's the standard door that swings outwards and not a roll-up door.

The "skeptical" journalist is using her own cultural lens to reinterpret the family's response.
But the forensic doctor explained it best, the family may have simply wanted an end to the horrifying ordeal and left the rest to god. This is not an unheard of sentiment in Filipino culture. When you know you can't find answers, justice or truth about a departed loved one, you leave it to god.
But it could also be that they found themselves being pressured into silence by greater powers -- in which case they probably had no choice but to accept what happened and again, leave it to god.

Please do not impose your cultural biases upon other peoples. You say you are a seasoned investigative journalist but you fail to acknowledge that it might have been De Guzman’s Family’s way to cope with the scandal and with the tragedy of his death. Even if he was the perpetrator of all this scam, his family deserved to grieve their own way, the way their culture knew how.
