- Toyota Crown Hybrid: The Perfect Vehicle for Long Haul Road Trips
When you step inside the Crown, it is immediately apparent that the designers at Toyota have given considerable consideration to bringing the interior up to date and making it in line with the streamlined external design. Leather is finished and stitched on the swooping dashboard as well as the door panels, which elevates the atmosphere of the sophisticated interior. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has a substantial diameter and provides an exceptional level of comfort when held.
Everything on the inside seems to have been very well put together as well; the buttons all make the appropriate, pleasing clicks, and have the air of having been constructed to endure. Everything that can be seen and touched have a tactile quality that is undeniably premium. Because it is really made of brushed aluminum, the trim that surrounds the information display panel in the center console seems to be made of brushed aluminum. One thing is certain: Toyota has not sacrificed a thing when it comes to the cabin quality.
With contrast to its predecessor, which had a center console that was covered in buttons that encircled the information display screen, the most recent model of the Crown has a tiny touch capacitive screen that is located below the information display screen.
On this so-called "Toyota Multi-Operation Touch control device," you will be able to make adjustments to the dual-zone air conditioning, raise or lower the electrically operated rear windshield blinds, and alter the driving modes, giving you the choice to choose between Sport, Eco, and Normal. The fact that the buttons and interface were in Japanese despite the fact that none of us could read even a single word of the language did not make learning how to operate it any more difficult.
Under the hood, the powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that is coupled to an electric motor that, in conjunction with the gasoline engine, drives the rear wheels. Toyota says that the hybrid powertrain generates 220 horsepower and 220 Newton-meters of torque, which is equivalent to that of an engine of 3 liters. The Athlete Hybrid's transmission is an E-CVT (A), which contributes to the vehicle's effortless acceleration and quick forward motion.
When you put the vehicle into Sport mode using the Toyota Multi-Operation Touch control device, the Athlete Hybrid really starts to shine. The responsiveness of the throttle increases, the steering seems like it has a lot more reaction, and the electric motor is pushed to generate large amounts of rapid torque that may be used. In point of fact, when driven aggressively in Sport mode, the automobile has the sensation of being alive.
However, people who are used to the weighty steering found on BMWs may find that the steering on this vehicle is noticeably lighter than what they are used to. Even though it weighs over two tons due to the extra components that make up the hybrid powertrain, the ride is still composed and can keep up with the vehicle as it turns.
Naturally, putting a lot of force into the Crown Athlete Hybrid is not what the vehicle was designed for, is it? If you leave it in the Comfort setting, the vehicle will move very smoothly, the distribution of power will be linear throughout the rev band, and the vehicle will not feel asthmatic even as the rpm increase.
The capacity of the automobile to isolate its passengers from the outside world is yet another quality that contributes to the vehicle's overall excellence as a conveyance for going about one's business. When in totally electric mode, the inside of the vehicle is completely silent. Because of the extensive use of soundproofing surrounding the vehicle, there is almost no sign of wind noise even when the is driven at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, and road noise is kept to a minimum.

These S200 Crown Hybrids are amazing, insanely fast at 0-100 in 5.4 seconds. FYI the voice in Japanese was saying that the ETC card couldn't be detected, not the SD card for the maps. ETC cards are the Japanese version of eTags for their highway tolls, the slot for the card is in the little compartment near the power button :)

No crown review is complete without showing one of its biggest party tricks - the swing air vents, which this car is equipped with. Also the LCD gauge cluster is unique to hybrid models.
Sadly only the 3.5 Hybrids have that

Have owned 3 Mark x (Grx120, GRX121, GRX130) all S-packs, and drove a Crown hybrid 2011 yesterday and hopefully buy one soon. The crown is far superior :)

Looking to get one to replace my current daily as well. Didn't think the navi will work. But the whole system looks quite similar to same era Lexus's. I'm wondering what will happen if I insert the Lexus map dvd into this navi.
@@laureus31 Same, I've been looking at the GWS204 and the GRS204 to replace my chaser. I'm not sure the technicalities but I think a few people from the crown group has tried inserting the dvd but it's coded differently so it doesn't work

@@gravityfed101 There are some aftermarket Chinese headunits which replace the whole thing, but I would suggest getting a beatsonic kit so you can install a headunit in the little space below the main console

That is tough the gs450h is great car also i like this a bit more as it more unique and special.
