      Thanks Hector! I can't tell you how relieved I was to remove them before it spread to any other roses! 😌 I was a bit nervous, and am still amazed my other roses are doing just fine a few years later! 🤞

    Where to start! First I noticed your hair pulled back and thought how cute it looks, then you explained and oh so true! You've done it again, Laura! I lost 18 red knockout roses to rosette disease a few years ago and I miss them so much. The garden they were in is now much more shaded so I've replaced them with hydrangeas that are more shade loving. Because of you, now I want more knockouts and I have a great spot for them. I also need your gloves. When I removed all the knockouts, I swore I'd never plant anything again with killer thorns. I have three red knockouts in another place and they're doing great. Thanks again for your great video!! The flash freeze in December was followed here by temps in the 70s causing all my azaleas to bud up too early. The next freeze just a couple of weeks ago killed all the buds. I have shrubs like loropetalems, ligustrums, and some of my azaleas that completely defoliated :( They all have new leaf buds but otherwise look like death. What a sad spring in my garden, but I'm hopeful that all will leaf out again. I did lose three huge azaleas. I'll give them a little trim and pampering but don't have any real hope for them. Thank you for the lovely tour!!! - Doleen

      Thanks Doleen! 😊 Wow -- 18 Knockouts! I bet they were stunning before the rose rosette disease got them. My rose pruning gloves make such a difference because I no longer worry about my fingers and arms getting jabbed by the sharp thorns. (And always wonder why I waited so long to buy a pair!) We've had a strange Winter too. After the flash freeze, we also warmed up and most of our Winter was definitely mild. But a few weeks ago we dipped down into the 20s every night, so some of our early blooming Magnolia buds froze. This is the 3rd year in a row, so I feel your pain! You will feel such happiness when you begin to see things finally budding out and leafing out in your garden. I hope it happens for you soon! 🌹😃

    I have about 10 knockout roses living in south Jersey too and noticed that this year was unusual, everything started so early. Trimmed mine 2 weeks ago. I follow your garden since last year, it is beautiful, got few tips, thx.

      Hi Dot -- you describe it perfectly: this year has indeed been unusual with how everything started so early around here! Doesn't it feel great to have them pruned for the year? I felt so good once they were all cleaned up! 🌹😃

      15 inches of snow??? 🥶 There are no words! 😂 I hope a warm front rolls in and melts all of that snow quickly! Just remember this when it’s mid-August and it is sweltering hot outside. (Trying to find the bright side for you!) ❤️❄️

    I prune my roses in late fall or else I get a lot of broken canes from the weight of the snow and ice. How many bulbs of tete do you have to plant together to get a nice clump like that? Or did they self multiply?

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to prune mine in Fall too. 🍂 And yes, with the snow and ice you get in CT that makes sense. I planted the Tete-Tetes in groups of 5 or 7, and they’ve multiplied over the past few years. I won’t dig up and divide unless I have to, i.e. the flowers are less than usual someday. Hope that day never comes. 🤣

    When are you going to fertilize your roses ? I’m in 6b - gonna do it’ April 15 😬

      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rosie -- as soon as I finish cleaning up that garden bed, I plan on fertilizing. We had a few days of rain -- yet again -- so it's been fun cleaning up the gardens during the dry days in between the wet days! 😂🌞🌧

    Do you do anything special to protect your knockouts during the winter?

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cory -- No, I don't and you really don't need to if you're growing them in the zones they are hardy in -- and these are hardy down to USDA Zone 5. I hope this helps! 🙂

    Hi, what is the name of the plant that's next to your knockout roses that's green with the yellow flowers??

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are small Daffodils, called Tete-Tete Daffodils. They are early-blooming, stay upright through rainstorms and bloom for over a month at least. 🌼😀

    Hello, I've never planted anything in my life. I grew up in New York City and always lived in a rental apartment.
    As a new home owner in Delaware I planted some knock out roses they are so tiny.
    I'm afraid I've planted them in the wrong spot where they are only getting about 2-hrs of sunlight.
    I haven't touched them since because honestly I don't know what to do. Lol
    Do I need to prune these little baby shrubs and do they need lots of sunlight like in the morning?
    I feel like I'm not asking the right question, sorry.
    This is the best way I can explain my situation any info will help.
    Thank you and I love the videos on lime lights.

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi April - Congrats on your new home and starting out gardening too! Yes, your Knockout Roses will need at least 6 hours of sunlight to bloom their best. Hopefully you can transplant them to a sunnier location on your property. Now in Spring is a great time to transplant them, before the heat of the Summer kicks in. You don’t need to prune the shrubs if you just planted them this year or last Fall. Let them grow and get their roots established. Once you move them to a better spot, just fertilize them with some Espoma Rose-tone fertilizer. I have a complete video playlist on Knockout Roses here on my TH-cam channel which covers pruning, deadheading, fertilizing and so on. If you watch those videos, it should help you on the right path. 🙂🌹

    My husband just bought me 2 bushes in the tubs. Any tips for a newbie? My hubs thinks we can put them in large mega plant pot….but seeing your video is making me think that is not possible? HELP!!!

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can plant these in either a mega plant pot or in the ground. Either way is fine. Starting them in a large container may help with air circulation -- as you can just move the container around if you notice it needs more airflow away from other plants. Otherwise, just make sure to give them enough space. I cover most of what you'll need to know in my Playlist of videos all about these Knockout Roses -- here's a link that will hopefully turn you into an expert in no time! th-cam.com/play/PLenOueHl62Oxq8hlHOX0p40biLWrox8pL.html If you have questions after watching the videos, definitely ask and I'll be happy to help you! 🌹👍
