There is a great $5 plugin that does this inside the editor without needed to export/ re-import via painter or photoshop. The plugin is called SRGBA Texture Channel Packer!
hey man is there a way to pack something into the normal map and just use the red and green channel for normal dice did it for star wars battlefront but ue4 seems to reject it
