      Thanks Dar, it was a challenge to edit but I did learn a few things. I probably should have done my final thoughts with the images placed towards the corresponding side that I placed them in for the split screen 📺 😆

    Wonderful exploration! It’s so interesting to see that less expensive or substitutes for artist grade supplies have their own merit and surprisingly interesting and fun results! TFS! 💖💖💖

    Beautiful prints, both of them. I'm really impressed by your make-up set. But I'm so lucky to have Pan Pastels. I started with the 3 primary colors red, yellow and blue (all with extension .5 in their articlenumber) plus white and black. You can mix lots of colors with just these 5. Now I have more but it was perfect to start with.
    Great video, thank you!

    I bought my pastels ages ago and hardly used them. I'll have to get back to gel printing and give this a try. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Very cool effect. Love the results. Not so bad of an investment wise with the makeup if one doesn't want to invest in the pastels. Wonderful, loved watching this.

      When I have tried to crush up my fairly firm faberCastel “soft pastels” it didn’t seem to get much pigment adhered to the gelliplate. I find the pan pastels so creamy they go on “like butter”. Did you apply to a gelliplate or directly to paper? Did you apply to a gelliplate or directly to paper?

    WOW, great video!!! Makeup is about equal except for how many prints it'll do. I have pastel sticks. I wonder if they would work on gel plate. I guess NOT. But I thought about scraping some powder off to use. Its worth a try. Kirsten uses Pan Pastels a lot!

    • @devonrex4
      @devonrex4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use an app on my Mac called In Shot. I can shrink the main image and then add a Pip (picture in picture). I pre-edit the video for the pip and then edit the main video once I see how the PIP is working. I can also edit the pip video once it is in there. Probably sounds more complicated than it is. There is likely a more professional way to do it but this worked ok.

    Love this can you use soft pastels ( sticks) if I ground them um pre application to the plate

    • @devonrex4
      @devonrex4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have tried grinding a bit of the “soft pastel” sticks I have (which are actually pretty hard and would be too sharp to use directly on the gelli plate) and it didn’t work very well, the make up actually worked better. I think there are some softer “stick” pastels that might work ok. I guess you would just have to try it and see how it goes. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent video, Devon ! 🥳🎉🤗
    Just found you today and am very much enjoying your demonstrations / tutorials, thank you.
    I have a question to ask……For the final pull where you used the pink ( loved the idea for the ombré effect, by the way !!)….I always thought that this final paint layer needs to be translucent or as transparent as possible….but is that pink translucent or opaque ?
    I wondered about this, because when I zoomed in for a closer look to see the tube details, it had a solid black square on the bottom of the tube, which I thought means that it is opaque ? 🤔🤔
    Thanks for your help 🤗🤗

    • @devonrex4
      @devonrex4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the rose pink was opaque and the portrait pink was semi-opaque. I feel your final pull layer can be opaque because it will be on the bottom (closest to the paper) when you pull your print. Sometimes you want it to be a thin layer though (even with opaque paint) if you are trying to pick up everything from the plate. But if you want your paper color to show through you would not use an opaque color generally, for example, if you are using a black paper to pick up then you wouldn’t want to use an opaque white paint as your pick up layer (you may as well just use white paper). I will do pickups with opaque or translucent paint (just depends on what is already on the plate, what paper I am picking up with and the effect I want to achieve and often I just go by feel). I think you need to consider not just the opacity but the contrast in terms of colors and how they interact in layers. I hope that has answered your question. If you want a more technical and comprehensive explanation I would recommend you watch @P.M. Artist Studio (if you don’t already), they are great at explaining their paint choices. Thanks so much for watching Sheila!

      Thank you so much, Devon, for this very helpful and comprehensive reply !
      I have learned a great deal from your response and greatly appreciate it .
      Your explanation definitely makes sense .
      Yes….straight after I watched some of your tutorials, I went on to visit P.M Artist Studio.
      It was my first visit to their channel and agree it was brilliant !
      They definitely do go into everything so thoroughly and I have not watched anyone else quite like them before on TH-cam !
      Mariah really does go into the nitty gritty and it is very educational listening to her.
      Such a lovely Mother and daughter team …very down to earth and humorous.
      Their website is also excellent with all sorts of extra info.
      I look forward to watching more of your demonstrations, etc. and also wish you continued success with your channel….it is certainly growing 🥳🥳🎉🎉💕💕
