I was diagnosed with stage 1 multiple myeloma a year ago (2017) and have been on chemo ever since. Anyone who questions the extreme individuality of this cancer has obviously not done their homework, nor experienced the uncertainty of actually living with it day to day, always wondering if your free kappa light chains are some measure of your life expectancy. You never really know........

@@read1John Check Irene Ghobrial from Dana Farber, Dr. Brian Durie of the International Myeloma Foundation, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation can help you navigate this very complicated illness (203) 229-0464. Look at the Tom Brokaw interview (he has MM) for at least 10 years. The advances they have made in MM has out-paced many other illnesses. People are doing very well now. I hope you have a good oncologist to help get you through this!

All the the blood cancers; leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma seem to be individual to the person who has them and thus follow fairly unpredictable trajectories.MM is a B Cell one as I recall.

I was told the average lifespan was 7-10 years nowadays!?

Hi Rinnin - thanks for commenting. This videos reflect 2013 figures surrounding myeloma. While the lifespan of every myeloma patient is different, average lifespan figures have certainly improved since this video was published in 2013 - Beccy, Myeloma UK

I lost my uncle yesterday due to multiple myeloma. Beware of this disease. He couldn't survive even 2 months from the date of diagnosis. so sad .

My dad died of this cancer as well. He had three to five years when he passed. He was gone in about 12 months. I worked in a hospital for 26 years. Seen a lot of deaths from this very hard to handle when it's one of your own. I helped wrap my dad up and taken him to the morgue. Takes the guts out of me, but I did it.
