- My favorite season of the year is fall, easily. And the best part of fall (other than peak color) is when the first hint of winter takes over, creating a mix of snowy conditions, fall color, chilly temps. In this morning video, I had a good mix of all three with some great sunrise light from time to time.
I've been pretty busy with life as a new dad, so I'm sticking to local spots for the time being. There will be trips up to Rocky Mountain soon enough!

I agree, the snow on Fall colors look is incredible and such a small window to capture. Excellent work as always!
If only it would last even a week. But one or two days at most is rough! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍. Is fall done up north?
@@brianbeattyphotography Oh yeah. I came back from a 3-week desert photography trip to my car buried under two feet of snow. Harsh juxtaposition to the glorious weather of the Southwest.
I love the intimate shot of the cattails in the winter scene. The pano was a good idea. Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Patricia! Glad you liked both of them
New subscriber. Love Colorado falls. I live in Michigan. We had our 1st snow, but all 10" came at once and left a day later, not giving me time to even think about pictures. Will be looking for more of your videos.
Hey Andy, thanks and welcome! This snow was short lived as well, gone the next day and unfortunately erased all of the fall color with it. Now everything looks bare and brown. I’m going to have to be more creative for any other fall videos this year until more show arrives!
I loved the panorama of the foreground teasels (not cattails). I also loved the beautifully lit cottonwood tree and the single leaf at the end.
thank you, glad you liked it! After getting home and looking at the photos closer, I had a feeling someone would call me out on the right plant ID... haha!
6:59 is my favortie. I'm a sucker for trails when it comes to landscape photography. It's always been a symbolism for me of adventure ahead. I've been meaning to get some winter photos in. This is definitely for sure going to happen. Great to see back at it.
Thanks Jason! I think that was my favorite of the morning as well. Unfortunately both the snow and fall color are both completely gone now, so I've got to be a lot more creative for a while to find interesting subjects. How have you been? Hope all is well
@@brianbeattyphotography thankfully you were able to snap some good ones here. That's what makes photos like these so rare is because they come and go. I've been doing well. I'm trying to get back into some photography after doing some writing. I hope you have been doing well. I'm glad you're still keeping with the photography.
Appreciate it! Yeah when I saw the snow outside I knew I had to move quick haha
Congrats on being a new dad. Love the shout out, and am guessing Andrew would dig that shot (it was my favorite)
Thanks Mitch! I’ve definitely adjusted my expectations for this year regarding where/when/how long I shoot. I’m sure things will get much easier as little one gets older! Glad you liked that leaf image too. I sent it to him already and think it’s his favorite as well 👍
Love that snowy Colorado landscape! I really liked the leaf in the snow in image. I need to spend some time focusing on scenes like that. Great work, my friend. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Michael! Agree, the morning effort was worth it for that one I think. What did you think of my lackluster wide angle attempt?
@@brianbeattyphotography Hardly lackluster! I thought it was great!
Haha appreciate it, but I know I’ve got some refining to do on the wide angle skills haha
@@brianbeattyphotographywe all do! Great foreground on that one!
Fun images ... white with peeks of color. Good you were able to find a day to play with it. I liked the s shaped path too ... looked fun as you walked. Too bad it didn't work out. I always loved a fresh snow too ... not even one print; by man or canine :)
Thanks! Yeah next time I’ll plan better. Nothing better than being the first steps in the snow!
Liked the last photo of the single leaf..
Thanks Terry! That one turned out well I think. Not my usual style but branching out a bit
Love it !! My favorite was the one with the snow flakes in mid air. Every year I tell myself to shot this contrast of season fall/winter, and I miss it every year 😅 great video
haha! thanks! And yep it only really lasts for a day. So, as soon as I saw the conditions aligning I hit the trail immediately
Good stuff Brian! I like seeing images the photographer doesn't like, or the scene doesn't translate well to an image. Also I feel the pain when trying to shoot a vlog, and the images don't meet "expectations", yet an entire vlog was shot. A good reminder not every image is a portfolio image, but still a fine image, and a fun video.
Thanks Scott! Completely agree with all of your points. I’m working on being more authentic with the experience too instead of just curating the very best photos. I’m definitely always still learning and refining composition skills, so sharing the less than best photos is important. Glad you enjoyed them all! Will have to check out your work too.
@@brianbeattyphotography Thanks for the follow! I have a week from Estes Park sitting on my hard drive from August I'm yet to process, including hopefully a video on the Trail Ridge Road.
Really enjoyed this video☺️
Thanks Kelli! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Loved this! Need to make a trip out to Colorado in the fall!!
Thanks Liam! I definitely recommend it. More so some of the ultra beautiful destinations in SW and central Colorado when the aspens are fully changing than my modest local trail haha
@@brianbeattyphotography Right... I'll take note of that. :) But I still enjoyed the contrast between the snow and the leaves on your trail. I missed that first snow up where I am in Washington state.
Love the cotton wood image and the last image of the single leaf in the snow. Really well done. Always so rewarding to get out locally and find great images.
Thanks! It is great having scenic places to explore right out the front door for sure. Life has been super busy recently but I’ve been taking some good inspiration from your videos this year and will be heading to Rocky soon enough 👍
It looks magical! Beautiful images, and very enjoyable video, Brian.
Thanks Alex! Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate the comment 👍
Great images in this video! Fall combined with snow is the best.
Thanks Chandler! Appreciate it. And definitely agree there’s nothing better
Looking beautiful! We had our first snow on Nov 1st here in Nova Scotia. All gone now, but Otis sure enjoyed laying in it most of the day. Great images!! Bruce and Otis
Thank you! The snow was short lived here too. Now everything has no fall color and is brown, so I’m anxious for some more snow!
Very nice.
Thanks Philip! Glad you enjoyed 👍
Beautiful conditions for some morning photography! So happy you made it out there! I love the photo you took of the big cottonwood with its golden leaves. Around here, our leaves are ultra confused. Some trees are bare, others are still green, and some have that golden color. Not sure what to do about that, haha!
Haha yea man, lucked out for sure. Glad you liked the cottonwood. I’ve eyed that comp every week for about a year, just waiting for the right day. And I hear ya, we had a similar fall before this snow. Not sure what the deal is but it made my usual fall outings more challenging!
Amazing conditions Brian! I'd forgotten about those autumn snowfalls you can get in Colorado from when I lived out there. Love those massive Cottonwood trees and the shot at 6:55 was a real beauty! The final image of the leaf was a stunner as well! I really enjoyed the video and images! Hope you are doing well!
Thanks Paul! Yeah it seems like every year there’s always the fluke early snow that mixes perfectly with fall color. Bummer is that it only lasts a day and then both the snow and fall color are gone. Where were you before?
@@brianbeattyphotography we lived near Durango, Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. Unfortunately it was pre-photography. Definitely would love to go back and spend a couple of weeks in autumn!
@@paulcookphotography ah, stunning area! Definitely go back 👍
I love this autumn snow, its pink and jade color, its dust-free appearance, and even more its otherworldly artistic conception!
I bought the R5 as you said this camera was better than the 5DSR. But it's not. The 5DSR is the best. And tha 5DS the best when it comes to f.e.x. small wawes on a lake an so one. Its nothing wrong with the R5, buth the 5dSR and 5DS are better for landscapes.
I completely agree! I think the R5 is the best all around camera. Better AF, IBIS, flip screen, lighter. But the 5dsr is the superior landscape camera still. I’ve said that in a number of videos :)
You still have the GFX?
Hey Devin, yep I still have the 50s II. Just felt like taking the 5DSR out for a spin 👍
