I was fired after two weeks without notice because I just recovered from Covid, and still have some long lasting covid syndrome that affects my performance. As soon as I was fired, I quickly recovered and upgraded my resume, improving my skills and taking a part time job with low pay to add my portfolios for around two months. Two weeks ago, a big company noticed me, and they invited me for few interviews on different times, because of my experiences from the part time job and my portfolios, a few hours after the last interview, The HR contacted me and said I was accepted, I will finally work again next week. Good luck for you guys who are laid off during these trying times, stay strong and keep improving your skills.

Don't fall into the Multi Level Marketing ( pyramid scheme ) trap while you are desperate for a job, this is no time to start a risky / sure to fail venture.
Also don't get caught in the " Vending machine franchise, we guarantee exclusive territory rights. " The goal of these companies is to sell machines and " franchises " that mean nothing. They don't have the ability to prevent others from operating vending machines in your territory.

When I got fired back in 2015, Uber, Lyft, Postmates and Doordash helped me pay rent while living in LA. Those were some sources of quick alternative income. I tried TH-cam but didn't get anywhere since there is too much saturation, and the algorithm won't favor you if you lean right, even just watching videos without commenting. I was fired Oct 13 for something that was resolved months ago, but well, what’s done is done. 😕
I’ve been delivering for UberEats for the last two years to help pay off debt, but the shock from the loss of the main 9-5 job is still difficult to grieve. Yet I’ve been so happy to no longer go in that office anymore!
I struggle with depressive thoughts that I allow to keep me from finally just updating my resume to start looking as I’m also anxious to avoid a job gap-because I hear a lot of employers look at that like a red flag, but I also don’t want to be desperate to take a lowball offer.

My grandmother used to say that everyone needs a "rainy day" fund because eventually it _will_ rain. Most well known personal finance gurus also echo this advice. It is probably the most important thing to keep in mind. You cannot sleep well at night until you have a safety net in place - unemployment is complete rubbish in most states - so you need several months of living expenses (at least the essentials) saved up.

  • @nima_33

I was recently terminated from my full time job. Luckily, I had a part-time PRN job in my field and I was able to get a full time job with them in less than 7 days. The cool thing is that I’ve been with my current company longer than the people who fired me. So, I don’t have a resume gap. I’m considering removing the bad employer from my resume because I was only there 7 months. They are a well respected non-profit but it was a very toxic work environment. I think it will hurt me to keep them on my resume because people who haven’t worked there don’t realize how badly they treat employees. I learned a lot there though!

In my career life I have been fired 4 times. The only one I feel I was fired for not doing the job right was the first time (tardiness and absenteeism), the job was too far and I didn't have a car (was a 2-hour bus ride, and the buses were very erratic). The other three times, one was because the mother of the boss didn't like me (she wasn't an employee, she was there making sure that no one messed with her baby), the other was by a racist drunk that said that I was "taking a job from her people" (I think that by "her people" she meant her invisible friends; people in the office who were of her same ethnicity hated her and apologized to me on behalf of her culture), the other one let me go because "I was intimidating my staff", an excuse, she just didn't like that I had better skills than her. That last one, after a few months there were protests in my city asking her to step down for racism and unethical practices.
To me, being fired has always been (a) a good reason to find something better, some kind of lesson learned on settling for less, (b) except for the first one, the root of the firing has always been about personal dislikes for me, not because of anything unprofessional, unethical or performance-based. And every time my next job has been better.

Well laid out and spot on. Do not wait especially if you are an older worker and not yet able to retire. For younger folk, it is a race against time. Are you going to work for someone or entity or are you going to go it your own way? Perhaps a hybrid model: work, gain knowledge, save then make the transition to self employ. There are so many resources now than when I was younger but there were resources and signs there too; older people alone barely able to rent a room and dying alone. The tired, defeated shuffle of your mother as she comes back early in the morning after a second job so you can be fed, housed and clothed. Its like in the end of of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" when Marlow lied to Kurtz's "intended." Just surrounded by that darkness and lying to her that his last words were for her but it was really just "the horror, the......" Ok pretty bleak but I know that's how it can feel like getting outed and drowning in all the propaganda and distractions that help keep our eyes closed.
I was lucky in my blindness. Older worker, really forced out due to sudden bad evaluations whereas before I did great. A supervisor mumbling a quick apology saying she had to do it then proceeded to find everything I did with fault. I tell people how it reminded me of those experiments such as Zimbardo's Stanford experiment where students were randomly assigned to be a guard or prisoner and how the experiment went out of control and had to be stopped because of the abuse and PTSD of the prisoners. At most jobs the experiment hasn't been stopped. Or the Milgram experiment where people are told to "punish" someone for wrong answers and how they complied unto agony of the victim just because an "authority" kept prodding them to do so. We people can be so wretched. "Human Resources" - the name alone tells you all you need to know. Just resources, a means to an end. Usually to help other people get rich and justify their inflated positions. "Either you are the butcher or you are the meat." - Game of Thrones I think.
I left - F*** them. Whatever you might think of unions, they helped with the damage control and I am grateful. Workers do have more power than they think and the pendulum has shifted towards workers right now but rest assured it is temporary. Got my lifetime health benefits for me and for my younger children until they are 23 if they go to college. A small pension (not enough) but living in California, LA - looks worse than the movie "Soylent Green" around here. I am not exaggerating.
Started taking classes toward a Masters in Statistics. I have posted stuff like this before on other channel comments cuz its like therapy. The pandemic is awful but going to classes on Zoom and studying with other students on Discord has been great. I don't lie or pretend to be younger than I am (that would be so creepy) but I need not advertise it either. The grey hair will effect things in person so next semester is going to be rough when you walk in the room and everyone thinks you are the teacher. But trying not to be a buttercup.
Information - we are just information - refer to Central Dogma - meat machines created by the info encoded in our genes to help make copies of themselves (genes). Read - "The Selfish Gene." I want to use data and programming to improve the things. I have Alexa and she gets me but she could do so much more for me and other's getting on in years. A Boston Dynamics robot with articulating arm to pick up my keys should I be less agile - it will happen to us all. Applying machine learning algorithms and robotics to the avalanche of older retirees to improve out lives and ferret out the truth in the data otherwise "Soylent Green IS people."
Have a blessed day, stay healthy, keep the mind busy and don't give into the fear - "fear is the little death."

Must be nice for large corporations to influence politicians to pass laws that heavily favor the employer… the “At-Will” law is one such example. Companies don’t have to show any loyalty to the employee, but we the employees don’t get any such loyalty in return. Yes I can leave a job whenever I want but it costs me way more (financially, mentally and physically). Employers don’t need to give an employee 2 weeks notice lol.

Is that code for something ? 2 different coworkers at 2 different companies told me that the temp agencies want me back because I make the temp agency money. Do you know what that means? Does that me I am a great employee and the temp agency jeopardizes my chance to be a long term permanent full time employee ?

      3 days later.
Not wanting to bring the matter up
in detail with future prospective employers I simply found other things to say on resumés when they asked why I left my former employer like-
      ●Seeking Better Opportunity
      ●Relocation
●Trying to Work Closer to Home
The point is to find another reason worth mention that is also true but that doesn't stir any negative emotions into the mix.
Another one that I've cited is
      ●Scheduling Conflicts
which is a fancy way of saying
      they weren't flexible
      with your scheduling needs.
Along those lines depending on the kind of work you could also possibly say
that you weren't being scheduled enough hours and that you're seeking something more reliable and consistent.

    Bryan,
There is one aspect of interviewing I'm finding extremely interesting and that's hiring managers body language / subtle facial expressions. Their eyes dart down and to the left or right, squinting, 2-3 second pauses etc.. I've caught it maybe 5 out the of last 8 interviews when it's apparent the interviewer has doubts regarding something on the resume (job history timeline etc.). I want to call it out sooo bad! and say "what do you need to see as proof?". How would you tactfully address this doubt/ hesitation during an interview? Any videos on this?

The first multiple stream of income is to have roommates or a partner who works. That means in order for your household income to drop to zero, both would have to lose their jobs instead of just one. It greatly decreases your fragility. This is the reality we live in.

    • @msbondfire007

Agreed…. Unless your partner dies and your job is eliminated 3 weeks later. Re relocating, that’s nearly impossible if you are single, no partner with zero income. I appreciate this video but these are all best case scenarios.

@@msbondfire007 Sorry if that happened to you. Don’t get too down on yourself. Just keep this in mind: There are macro economic forces beyond your control. It isn’t your fault. Not everybody can work at facebook or google and make $500K a year. It’s not realistic…but that is what is asked of people now to be middle class. Everybody except the highest earners has taken a cut in their standard of living, if you were born upper middle class-now you are middle class, etc. it’s called “downward social mobility” it’s a side effect of societal decay, and the slow collapse of our system. No system lasts forever. I try explaining that to my parents and they just don’t get it. They don’t understand why my brother who has a masters degree in accounting can’t afford to buy a house. They just assume we have some sort of moral failing or are wasting money. Total cognitive dissonance. It’s how we got ourselves in this mess to begin with.

To start with, millions of people in this country live week to week and month to month, there goes your 6 month nest egg. A side hustle, not everyone can do something like that, other than working part time for minimum wage at Walmart on the weekends. All of this video sounds nice, but when your job disappears you need money now.

I think the term ‘tribal knowledge’ needs to be reworded. I hadn’t heard it before, so I googled it and yeah, there are lots better ways to describe what this means without it being potentially offensive to BIPOC people.

    • @henrythegod6756
      @henrythegod6756 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think tribal knowledge is a perfect way to put it. People can infer what it means when they hear it for the first time in context and it puts what it describes in a short hand, easy to understand phrase.
It is literally a positive phrase. More tribal knowledge == more knowledge about how things actually operate, not just what’s on paper. Also, anyone can be a member of a tribe, including white people. Tribe dependent, of course.
I think your suggestion is silly.

I remember in elementary school, many decades ago, our whole grade walked over to the middle school where everyone received a vaccination an no one complained. And we never knew anyone who had Polio because society pretty much all got vaccinated in the prior decades. I had to get a few vaccinations to go to college. And I had to get set a series of vaccinations 15 years ago when I worked for a medical device company or I would have lost my job. It is nothing new and not worth losing a job for. And my late sister was severely disabled for most of her life because of a disease for which there is a vaccine now. Society needs a swift kick in the ass.

@@JasonEDragon Those vaccination have long term history and the side effects and long term effects are known. With this new stuff, they are unable to answer the long term effect, because they don't know. The new stuff is so well tested that they are surprised , when side effects are reported ( insert sarcasm). Check out the history of the Polio vax and how many people died after taking it. When it was first distributed, they was a lot of problems with it and had to be refined. Now, after many years, we know what the long term effects are.

@@churchofpos2279 While we won't know perfectly what will happen in the future until the future happens, we do know what has happened up until today and we can use our knowledge to extrapolate what is likely to happen in the future. We are weighing the rights of individuals to be hesitant to inject something not perfectly proven into their body against the rights of the people at a workplace to expect the lowest reasonable probability of breathing in a virus that has proven to be very deadly to too many. If vaccines were 100% effective then I wouldn't care if others received a vaccine. But, vaccines aren't 100% effective, so you need most people to get vaccinated so that the viruses don't have enough hosts that are effective to reproduce in. We've seen that too many people don't properly follow other measures to avoid virus spread. As I'm writing this I just heard another ambulance call being made to a residence where someone is COVID positive in my community. So, the best way forward is to say if you want to work next to me then get vaccinated.
