I think you are highly underestimating the fanbase for Evercade products. People want physical media - at least enough that theyve been successful so far. And they would love an arcade setup, even a small one, to play their games. It's a little pricey but it isn't that bad for the US which is the vast majority of their customers afaik. Idk if it will be a huge hit but itll do alright I am sure, especially long term.

This is a product for Evercade fans. I am one of them. No one will give you physical media. Sony, Xbox etc.. So I got Evercade versus. And I no longer download games. They were illegal and I did not know it. And if my internet quits working I cannot play online. And this will play my Evercade vs carts. So for me it is a win win. If you do not like it fine. I own a Atgames the big huge arcade stick to plug to the TV. And a arcade full of Midway games.
So it is a win win for us. I own a Arcade 1 Up street Fighter, and 2 small Arcade machines from them. MRs PacMan, Atari Missile Command . And a few My Arcade products. Evercade fans will eat this up. I also love the SNK home machine.
I think it will be successful. And it will not hurt the industry. The Evercade VS was a game changer. Physical media, instruction booklet and a clam shell case. These will play the games I already own from Evercade I love my Evercade vs. I want the Mega Man. It is a niche product for a niche group of people.
And it will be online only. I have to buy my evercade carts on Amazon. I am sure this will be online at Amazon also.

You just confirmed my claim. You said its a niche product for a niche group of people. Usually a company wants to expand sales and grow. I'm not happy to shit on any company I am looking at this from a marketing perspective. If you're releasing a product to only fit the needs of a small group of people, and you price high (most youtubers that are even on board all mention the price) your sales are going to be lower than expected.
Arcade1up came out in 2018 with a $249 1/4 scale arcade and they sold tons. Not to just arcade fans but impulse buyers. Why? Good price entry point. Now they've jacked their prices without improving quality and you've seen machines like Blitz going for less than $200.
If you are going to compete in this market, you need to give consumers value for their dollar and at this price point, many including supporters of the product are not overly enthusiastic about supporting it

@@Missing_Context Thats all relative, arcade1up launched here at a grand for the first unit, the cheapest one you can get here now on launch is around 1200. All prices are without risers, we can pick these up for 400. You could literally buy both of them and have an extra 400 dollars in your pocket over an arcade1up unit here. Im new to the evercade and i think this is fantastic value for what you get. Arcade1up I stayed away from because the lack of quality in everything for the price. Your selection of games you listed for the evercade was incredibly limited also.

@@Missing_ContextYes. Why? It doesn't come with a pack in cartridge like their other systems. (I mean that could change but if they were they would say it does but just not announce it yet). Evercade has been around for a couple years now has 50 carts to buy with a decent variety of titles. People who are going to buy this already have a handful of cartridges to play. I also don't think this is meant to be a huge seller like the EXP or the Verses. They'll sell a couple thousand units from people who have established collections. Their friends will come over and see this thing and instead of getting one on their own, dip their toe in with a VS or EXP. But hey I get it, you have your opinion. The arcade market itself is already very small. I therefore don't think that Blaze is expecting sales as high as those of the EXP or the Super Pockets.
However, the products will probably manage to attract new people to the arcade market. I find the Alphas very interesting as an entry-level product in the arcade sector.
And who knows, maybe in 1-2 years there will also be larger arcade machines from Blaze.

This is for people who collect Evercade. Evercade is for people who dont like to download roms and just want to play and collect old games for a decent price. The games come on a cart in a nice little plastic shel with an manuel. This machine allowes me to play Xeno Crisis, R-Type, In The Hunt, Duke Nukem 3d, Aligator Hunt and lots of other games on a table top Arcade. Nothing wrong with that. The only bad thing i can say about it is that there a two versions instead of just one. That means i wil not be able to own every game on Evercade. You have probably the biggest library of games since the atgames legends ultimate (and with rumors of a flashcart for the evercade out in the wild, this could be definitive) and 3. It's a Niche. you don't need to gatekeep just because it isn't for you.

I do think the price is an issue, and the fact that there isn't an HDMI port is a miss. However, I don't think you can say it's going to be a failure as there is a market for these devices. It's not my cup of tea either, but that doesn't mean other people won't buy it.

    • @Missing_Context
      @Missing_Context  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

At that price with no HDMI for anyone that isn't yet invested in the evercade platform it's going to be a tough sell. If you're not on the platform with cartridges there is an initial investment PLUS add ons...at $250 entry. That's a HUGE misstep.
I'm not trying to shit on a product I'm looking at it from a "who asked for this and needs it" perspective.
Even if you're already in their ecosystem there are other ways to play these games, why do we need an 8 inch screen bar top? Again if it was $100 less I'd be more convinced it would sell. You need to have that carrot on the stick to get people invested in an expanding ecosystem. If your entry is too high it's a tough sell and that's why I think it won't do what they think it will and you'll see heavy discounts within a few months. For their sake I hope I'm wrong.

But the Evercade Alpha makes sense for the Evercade community. We already know, since the beginning, that there are better portable systems with access to thousands of games, but bought the handhelds for the licensed titles. We were OK with paying for these games, of course available for free illegally, but Evercade aims to a specific market made of stupid people many will think. I'm one of them. I think the hardest thing we have to understand is that the scale that most vendors want to sell on is actually so small that it doesn’t take much for something to be a hit or failure out of nowhere. Most want to seek between 3,000 and 30,000 units and compared to the hundreds of millions of people in the mass market place as customers, there is just no account for what will and won’t succeed sometimes. And I am soooo out of touch with the mass market that I have up years ago thinking that what I liked or would buy would be a mass market hit or fail.
It will definitely be interesting to see how this product does … I like the Countercade format and the cartridge play is an added bonus of flexibility in my opinion… but my opinion isn’t worth much sadly.

Fun fact about those competition grade controls... You know how much a Sanwa JLF and 6 buttons costs? It's just under 50 USD for the retail price. The wholesale price Evercade would get them for would be closer to 17 USD. And that's just assuming they're using Sanwa parts. Since they're not name dropping the maker, it's entirely possible they're using something far, far cheaper. In other words, that's really not the flex they want you to think it is.

My original Evercade wiped out one of my carts due to an update. A lot of the carts people would want are Legacy carts now and some demand an absurd price. I don't trust the hardware or software, and a lot of the recent releases are pretty uninspired. This unit has an 8" screen but what about vertical games? That screen gets smaller pretty quick. I say spend the extra money and get into the Mister FPGA or Analogue Pocket ecosystems. There's loads of cores out there and in the Pocket's case, it plays real cartridges and does a nice job of it.

I have been sitting on the fence with Evercade, and this is actually the system that will bring me in. I have wayyyyyyyy too many consoles (over 20) and TVs (6) already with all the HDMI ports all filled up, not to mention (I think) eight different handhelds, so having an all in one cartridge based barcade is perfect for me. The price isn't a big deal as I have more disposable income than the average person.
I own the Visco one (that thing is junk BTW) and it's the same size which is just fine. A test for me is whether I can play shooters and die because I suck, rather than because I couldn't see a bullet. When playing Andro Dunos on an 8 inch, no problem. MyArcade makes junk that is the reason their product are a fraction of the cost.

Wow, someone needs an ice cream don’t they! I love how some try and force their own opinions on others. Who are you to be so vocal on it? A TH-cam ‘influencer’ was his full of his own self-importance? Let me tell you why you’ll fail. You’re wearing a hoodie indoors, you’ll get no benefit from it when you go outside! Instant fail champ!

I think you don't know the customers. Old gamers are the target with disposable income. Back in my competive fighting days I payed $150 for just a stick with Sanwa parts. This has an Evercade VS built in. I want to play some of the arcade titles with a joystick. You are speaking of the mod retro community we are the Evercade community. I have plenty of emulation full size arcades. I have played some games Evercade has I've never played and enjoyed a lot. I do think the deluxe edition is the way to go. I've enjoyed some of the Arcade 1Up countercade HATE the controls. This Alpha Countercade is a perfect fit for my office to play nostalgia titles. Do I think it's perfect NO. WiFi with online opponents for the Street Fighter cab a huge miss. HDMI out not really a problem for me. No hate but you mentioned it in your video so yes you are out of touch with the Evercade community.

i think you are falling into an americentric trap. Evercase is basically a British company, and I am sure their target market is the UK and Europe. People have much smaller houses, and the options for having arcades or even 1Up type relicas is really small. This is only 200 pounds? with LEGAL ROMS. and can play the evercade library? Sounds like a bargain to me

Just sell me the roms and an emulator. Honestly, is that too much to ask. I know about MAME, etc. but I wouldn't mind having the roms legally purchases so I can use my own hardware or PC to play to play them.

Would be nice, but it will never happen for many old arcade ROMs due to all the expired licenses related to IP or advertising in various games. You can see this in things like the Switch version of OutRun not being allowed to use the likeness of a real Ferrari etc.

    Talk about missing the point...
You talking about getting a Steam Deck instead? Big price jump and more importantly that's an apples and pears argument. You are also directing people to get into tinkering and modding for a better experience. This is a plug n play product and that's the entire point. Your arguments are weak AF as to why you think this isn't going to do well.

Problem with evercade is the very cheap manufacturing. Had a tech guy see the inside the consoles and games and he laught and said, games are first to go and eventually the console. There's not even 10 years of life in them.
I really sat back and thought shit I've spent hundreds & hundreds on this company and knowingly they know these parts won't last or flashdrives.
And in 4 years their's many horror stories of people buying brand new carts or console and there dead on arrival .
And of course updates that breaks everything.

Yeah, I love the concept of the Evercade and many of the games they've released, I even bought a VS. But I sold it again after a short time as the system and carts felt so cheap.
