  • The music from Maarva's funeral on Ferrix was way too beautiful to not try and recreate. What a lovely piece! This is my first full transcription of anything ever, so some things may be wrong. I hope you all enjoy it!

    That cut to Luthen when she says "Empire is a disease" and Stellan's superb acting was the best moment from the entire show for me. With that slightest face muscle movement he shows realization that there's people like him everywhere and that the seeds of rebellion are already sown. Giving him confidence that even if he himself fails, the fight is not lost.

    • @HellqueenRoz
      @HellqueenRoz ปีที่แล้ว +50

      There's another side of it for Luthen.
      Luthen is an extremely ruthless and determined man. He does a number of bad things in the service of rebellion. He ultimately fights for a good cause, but he goes to extreme ends to achieve his goals. He orders Cassian's assassination in order to cover up his secrets, he lets a doomed Rebel attack go through in order to preserve the mole he has within Imperial intelligence. And when the mole in question shows signs of wavering in his commitment, Luthen threatens his family in order to keep him in line.
      But then Luthen is present on Ferrix and he sees what happens. He sees how Maarva's words not only inspire the people of Ferrix, but in fact stir them to rise up against the Empire.
      Jyn Erso said that "Rebellions are built on hope" and in that very moment, Luthen learned that lesson for himself.

      There’s a lot of symbolism here too. Rix Road, where the funeral takes place, shares a name with the ancient Gaulish word for king. The most famous to bear this title was Vercingétorix, the man who united Gaul against Caesar while he massacred and enslaved the celts.
      There are a lot of parallels here, especially if you look at what happened to the planet as the empire invaded and compare it to the Roman invasion of Gaul from 59 BC-51 BC

      @@elginscodex it also feels to me like it's pulling parallels from the Texas Revolutionary Period. Prior to the Revolution against Mexico, Texas was sparsly populated and almost exclusively populated by working class businessmen and women. There was work, family, God, and their mixed community if German, French, American, Spanish, and Mexican people coexisting. The Mexican Government under Santa Anna started imprisoning people for criticizing him, and the Texans asked to be left alone to their work. He increased taxes, placed travel restrictions, banned anti government sentiments, and tried to disarm everyone so they couldn't fight back. The Texans sent a representative to have a talk with Anna, who was also put in prison. That lead the Texans finally to rebel

    I think my favorite thing about Andor and Rogue One is that they show the true power of the ideas the force represents without needing lightsabers or magic powers to do it. The whole sequence was a masterfully crafted allegory of the rise of the Rebellion. You first hear individuals, discordant as they they tune their instruments, all spread out throughout the town. Then the toll of the Anvil, the first call to action, people like Luthen and Mon Mothma, who begin to organise. The band then starts to play, more and more joining the now unified tune as it slowly swells and marches to a single goal. Then the pause, the calm before the storm. Then the sudden change to a more determined final march, the moment of realisation as the Rebelion is truly united and the final days of the Empire can finally be seen on the horizon. Combined with Maarva's final call to action, a truly amazing bit of story telling.

    My name is Maarva Carassi Andor. I'm honored to stand before you. I'm honored to be a Daughter of Ferrix, and honored to be worthy of the stone. Strange. Feel as if I can see it. I was six, I think, first time I touched a funerary stone. Heard our music, felt our history. Holding my sister's hand as we walked all the way from Fountain Square. Where you stand now, I've been more times than I can remember. I always wanted to be lifted. I was always eager, always waiting to be inspired. I remember every time it happened, every time the dead lifted me... with their truth. And now I'm dead. And I yearn to lift you. Not because I want to shine, or even be remembered. It's because I want you to go on. I want Ferrix to continue. In my waning hours, that's what comforts me most. But I fear for you. We've been sleeping. We've had each other, and Ferrix, our work, our days. We had each other, and they left us alone. We kept the trade lanes open, and they left us alone. We took their money and ignored them, we kept their engines churning, and the moment they pulled away, we forgot them. Because we had each other. We had Ferrix. But we were sleeping. I've been sleeping. And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face. There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it's here. It's here, and it's not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness; it is never more alive than when we sleep. It's easy for the dead to tell you to fight, and maybe it's true, maybe fighting is useless. Perhaps it's too late. But I'll tell you this: if I could do it again, I'd wake up early and be fighting... these bastards... from the start. Fuck the Empire!

    One of my favorite cinematic moments in this bit was the drone shot over the Imperial forces, digging in and rooting their defenses. Giving their “show of force” and the camera pans over them, over their forces, who look to be between 20 and 50 troops, max, and shows the people of Ferrix, the entire population of the town, marching towards the Imps. Numberless, a tidal wave cracking against the wall. No matter how strong it is, the water will seep in, crack it, break it. These moments of defiance will flood the banks of the Empire, and then there will be one too many.

    I like that this song is so perfect because it's so imperfect. Like the timings, the tunings, it's all off. It's unorganized. It's just random people picking up instruments and joining the others. Together they form a marching band. Everything together is what makes the symphony.
    It is so perfect because it doesn't just represent the sense of community that the people of Ferrix have, where just hearing a few notes from the brass section is enough for them to know what is going on and join in, it is also the perfect characterisation of rebellion.
    Rebellion isn't perfect. It's not organized. It's just people from everywhere and nowhere at once being inspired by eachother in doing what they can to fight for freedom for eachother. A single act might not do much. But everything together is powerful and brings change.

Tired of the oppression. They wanted to bring back a sense of belonging. Their children didn't much care for it then. They simply accepted the grasp the Empire had on the galaxy. They weren't fond of it, but they didn't choose to take it on. But then seeing how deeply their parents cared about wanting change altered their perspective for the better. And they would soon come together to give the Rebellion hope.

This scene was the perfect cap to the season….can’t believe I’m saying this about a Disney Star Wars production, but I can’t wait till Season 2! The only other Disney project that’s been true of to date is the Bad Batch. Of course, I’m also looking forward to the Mandalorian as well.

      Most people will runaway from danger. The rare that run towards it they can be only there to cause more pain or to help people from it. As humans, the number of people willing to cause pain WILL ALWAYS be outnumbered by those who want to stop it. And that is something worth being shown.

    this was, by far, one of the best series of Star Wars.
    the In depth look at the Bureaucracy of the Imperial Security Bureau.
    the Corpos
    The way the First sparks of Rebellion started.
    At this point all we saw was the Ghost Crew in Rebels. This is an entirely different perspective bringing us up to a point where both of those Series intercept.
    The way Civilians were treated under Imperial Rule, the way Corpos were the Capos of the Imperials, how "peace" was maintained through fear and retribution
    This series was the greatest, if not the best piece of Star Wars lore created, without a single ignition of a lightsaber, a single showing of the Emperor or Vader.

    I think Ferrix represents something very real. I feel connected to these scenes. This very well could be real life. You can kill an idea and a burning passion for freedom from oppression. You can’t stifle people’s cultural customs and practices. You take a stand. And once you do more follow suit. We must hold our ground as citizens, and uphold to our core values and founding beliefs. The battle of Rix road really showed this to me.

    The scene where the riot control troopers run towards the line with the funeral march opposite of them walking towards them in a steady pace has to be the best scene in the series.

    Most powerful scene in all of star wars by a mile

  • @Joassh
    @Joassh ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Andor takes a well-established universe and adds profound depth to it; not through grand battles of epic scale, but seeing it through the eyes of the commoner just trying to get by in this imperial-infested world. It brings humanity into star wars, and thus makes a mere funeral scene an equally as powerful moment as the greatest there are in star wars... if not the most powerful, imho.
