Thanks Neil, a very sad song, done so well by John. We say its so hard today to get by. How would we fare with the tragic trials and tribulations of our Pioneers?
Wow, all I can say, what a wonderful rendition of a song that really emphasizes the really dreadful conditions that our early pioneering men and women were forced to cope with, thanks for posting Neil
Thanks Neil and John. That is the best rendition of Clara Waters I’ve heard. I think it’s better than how Slim did it, and I’m a great fan of Slim. I’d like to hear you do more of Roy Wheeler’s songs John. He wrote some beautiful songs with beautiful melodies and words that hit very hard on the emotions. They also all have an Australian theme. Raymond Crooke has recorded some of his work on yotube, such as “Breaker Morant Waltz”, “Goanna Oil,” “The Perfect Marigold” and “By the banks of the Berembed Weir.” I’m not sure why Slim altered the first verse of Clara Waters, as I much prefer the original by Roy, which is: I was driving to Cloncurry and I wasn't in a hurry, So I stopped beside the highway for a spell. And in that pleasant glade was a notice well displayed, With the story I am now about to tell.
A couple of years ago now, I found this spot beside the Highway near Miles in Queensland. After all the years, the little Memorial is unvandalized, but it is a sad, lonely spot beside the Highway. One wouldn't find the spot unless looking for it, as I was. "And the busy highway traffic rushes by". Sad spot.
Beautiful and sad song but a true story.great rendition by john
Once again John you have done the song proud. And Neil you do a great job putting our country artists on show to the world.
