Thank you so much for making this video! I really appreciate it. I have been thinking about getting the X6100 for a while now, but didn’t feel like I knew enough to pull the trigger on it. Your experience with it is very helpful.
I've had my x6100 for a few months. Great fun. I'm a little inexperienced in hf and finding all the settings on my 817 was a pain. The x6100 has me playing with settings and learning more.
I have had my X-6100 for just over a year, have managed digital DXCC in that time on the 10 watts. People complain of it getting hot running FT8, but I solved it by placing a small USB fan an inch or so behind the radio, no additional heat sink required. Only other thing I did was to replace the supplied USB cable with a screened version as I was getting some issues,. Apart from that a fantastic radio for the money.
Is yours still running? I burnt out the final capacitor and transformer by running FT8 full power while testing a 6ah battery to see how long it would run. I had a fan blowing on it.
I'm liking mine a lot with the firmware update it's just cool. I bought it for when shtf but now have it set up on its own EFHW, GNR1 and ext speaker in the shack. I find my self turning the X6100 on before I do my FTDX10, lol. It's fun , portable, antenna tuner, scopes waterfalls, 5-10w, sound card, large display, swr antenna analyzer and the radio settings are a Yaesu knockoff, I love it.
I have come to like this radio. But to echo what the person said in this video about what I do not like and that is the rinky dink sounding speaker. So to compensate for that I use my West Mountain clear speech hooked up to a small icom speaker hooked up to the same external battery, and then it sounded just fabulous after that. Other than that it’s a pretty nice radio and I’m pleased with it. I just went out and activated a Park for Parks on the air (Sulpher River Wildlife Management Area AR) with it, and got 18 contacts simply by hooking it up to, my 20 m Packtenna antenna that was easy to throw right up in a tree and it worked out very well. However, for seriously working parks on the air I would prefer my Xiegu G 90 because it is has 20 Watts of power and it’s still light enough to carry out into the field.
Totally agree buddy, had mine 6 months now, use it all the time, made some amazing QRP contacts including VK from the beach, ace bit of kit for the price, btw I always run an external battery to give me 10W, 73s bro
Did you adjust the X6100 mic settings ? Mine clips on voice peaks and I can't find a way to stop it doing this. It seems to cut out the loud parts of words spoken into the mic.
I had not too much luck with mine x6100. I send it back because of too much intermodulation and birdies. Bluetooth and WiFi did not really work and lots of smaller software bugs. Maybe I just had a bad unit. 73
I love mine! I dont get the birdies or other issues that some claim to have. Lol there a guy with a video that powered his with the charger then gave a negative review.
I love this radio however the FM gets over loaded way too easy but hopefully they'll iron that out in a future update, R1cbu mod seems better for FM but still not great.
The easiest way to lock the frequency is to use the "button" on the hand microphone...
Seeing this radio first hand at winter field day 2024 really sealed the deal and now I want one for field use . Keep up the great content! 73

In the end they are all similar so once you get familiar with one radio you can transfer alot of that knowledge to others

I agree with all I have a ft710 and it's pretty close to the same configuration

Thanks for the honest review. Was looking at that and the other zeigu offering as a "click it on and listen" while working. 73
I like the G90 also. I have both.
It most definitely is!

I will look into that can't remember now will get back to you when I have a moment to check

The xiegu... Make your own radio in europe.
Hi there! do you notice SWR change when using external speaker , also when powered by PSU/battery ? When I plug headphones, my SWR goes high
Hi , no I have not but will look into it
No, I use the GNR1 and GY03 ext speaker. I plug cheap Sony headset into the GNR1 as needed.
I have not noticed that but will look into it
How is the receiver sensitivity?
Not sure but will do a side by side with my 710 and let you know for a comparison
Good review! Subscribed to your channel. 73,WG7D

OMG, 9:15 mark is as far as I could listen. The Xiegu is a toy compared to any Elecraft radio. 73
you get what you pay for,
