Ok, I just had to share. My 4-year-old daughter walked up while I was watching and started talking about how she loves the lava lamp and Roly's phone. She thinks the pattern is pretty. Then she points to Luxeria, "I like the girl. She looks like a vampire." I asked does she look cool and she answered yes. I thought it was adorable!

When I came out as ace to my mother, I did it over text late at night. She had barely any response, something along the lines of "Ok. I will always love you no matter what." About 10 minutes later, she came bursting into my room "I'm so sorry I responded like that! I was falling asleep!" I saw no issue with how she responded, but she seemed to feel as though she was too dismissive. She told me to never tell her important news like that over text ever again, and I personally though it was really cute. I think she had an inkling that I was queer all along, because if there was something queer happening, she'd always tell me how there was nothing wrong with being queer and how she'd love me no matter my identity. Hell, once she said "You'll always be my (insert name). Wait I don't mean it like that, if you're trans then you won't be (insert name)... You'll always be my kid" lol. I love my mom. sorry for the paragraph!

The story about the girl that was in the hospital is unfortunately a super common thing here in the US. . . . Several years ago I had a bad case of pneumonia and was borderline hospitalized because of my symptoms. One of the managers I worked for at the time didn't believe that I had pneumonia, despite providing the documentation from my doctor. I missed 2 days of work and ended up being forced to work throughout the rest of my illness with pneumonia due to being threatened to be fired, because I was in a leadership role and I quote "We don't write up leadership for absences, we fire them" Due to that, I had to deal with the symptoms/side effects of pneumonia well longer than if I were able to stay home and rest.

Oh my goodness, that first one is gut-wrenching! My husband and I are both infertile and when we found out, we had a legitimate conversation about whether the other would leave to try to have children with another person who wasn't infertile and we both adamantly told the other that we weren't going anywhere! I say that to say that, even in the most committed relationships (which is what I would consider ours to be) it's still a huge fear and to have your person leave you and then a friend who rubs it in your face?! Talk about traumatic experiences! That friend is so toxic and I am glad that the other friend tattled on her!

  • @PiercedPagan

The last one really hit me. I came out to my parents a few years back (maybe around the age of 20 or 21) and my mom also said "I know" however she also added "I know, and we still love you as much as finding out we we're pregnant with you. As long as your partner treats you well and you're happy and safe thats all we want for you. You are still Nettie (my nickname) and will always be Nettie 💜". We had a lovely talk about my queerness and was even comfortable telling them that I was also non-binary. My mom apologized for misgendering me for all of my life and never knew that part of myself. She even wanted to know what pronouns I would prefer and even if I wanted to change my name, but politely asked if it was ok to still call me Nettie to which I totally don't mind due to the name never bringing sorrow and always made me feel happy whenever family called me it. Now at 24 I am proud to be openly non-binary with a beautiful relationship with another woman for almost a year now. Never in my life would I have thought to have the same love and support from close family members while being open and honest with myself. As far as I know there is no one else in my long list of family members who are part of the LGBTQ+ community that understand coming out and everything. Some of them do make errors on accidentally saying things like "but who's the man of the relationship" and very straight stereotype comments but they just don't know better and when I tell them that the comment was not appropriate they'd sincerely apologize and don't back the same mistake again.
I'm sorry that my story isn't juicy drama however I wanted to get it out there that some straights are ok 👌 😆 💜

As a person who has allot of tattoos, I'm blessed with having a close friend who's been tattooing since 1988. And owns his own studio. He is constantly charging me much less then what he charges his normal clients. As a rule of thumb, I tip him the difference, plus alittle extra. Because I know I can't go anywhere and get the quality I get from him. His work stands on its own. But because he's a friend I can't bring myself to tell him to just charge me normally. Which is why I tip so much. I know if I told him too, he would probably laugh and say something like, you already scratched my back. Let me scratch yours. This goes back too all the free coffee I gave him. Which I don't equivocate to his work as an artist. Don't take advantage of your friends!

      @Siilikeiju 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I feel like if you have the need to come out to your parents and they aren't very clear about having a positive attitude towards queer people, it will be stressful. Being young even adds to that because you are probably financially dependent on them. I was in my early 20's when I came out to my mum and I was nervous as hell because there was still that nagging fear of what if she hates me and doesn't want anything to do with me. Her response was basically "Well yeah, isn't that what you've been hinting all along?", so that AITA really resonated with me. There's a clash with expectations when for the kid it's something incredibly important and scary and the parent acts all casual like they were talking about the weather.

Would I be that bitch if somebody did that to me? Absolutely, and I don't care if that would make me an a-hole. 1) This person was clearly aware that tattoo theft is a shitty thing to do, PERIOD, not to mention when it was something as personal as in this case, since they wouldn't tell them what the design was when directly asked, 2) They asked this person for recommendations /specifically/ mentioning that they didn't want to pay a lot for it. Like Roly and Lux said, you get what you pay for. If the person was dumb enough to not do any research aside from asking the person whose tattoo they wanted to steal, they were practically begging for it. I am far too vindictive to label the tattoo person as an a-hole. I think they did a wonderful job and maybe the tattoo thief will think twice before trying to pull that same shit again. Maybe they can ponder upon it while scratching up the money to have the disaster covered up or lasered.

About the wedding date excluder, the expectation that a bride or groom at a large-ish wedding knows every single attendee intimately/very personally is sorta crazy to me! Wouldn’t there be at least one or two aunts, or uncles, cousins, nephews etc. that you never met?

    • @bibsp3556

Usually people know slightly under half the people at their wedding. You have your friends and family, and you might know their plus ones so say 90%. Then your partners friends and family, whom you might have met a few, and probably don't know most, and are significantly less likely to know their plus ones. So by the time you crunch it out, it's usually just under half. And about a 15% chance neither of you will know them.

With the coming out story, it feels like the kid wanted it to be more dramatic/emotional. I remember "coming out" to my brothers separately and one just said "yeah" while the other was genuinely upset that I just mentioned it offhand at a party. He'd clearly known for a long time (I've always been pretty open, just never put a word or label to it. Plus he always made jokes), but he wanted that emotional, bonding moment.
I think the daughter was looking for that too. she'd built it up so much in her head that she couldn't feel relief when it was just accepted. I can definitely relate to that lol.
But, honestly, I kinda like the way the mom thought. Not expecting her kid to come out and to just show up with their partner is kind of what I wish was the norm. There's a lot of history with coming out, but it'd be great if people just didn't assume and let kids figure themselves out.

The saying "This is a gift, not a tip" is pretty common from my experience. I've definitely used it a few times when I have a waiter/waitress that was having a difficult time because tipping in the US is indeed insane. It's basically a way to say that the tip does not need to be included when they are reporting their wages as a small f you to the businesses that refuse to pay their workers an actual wage and do a lot of underhanded things to get out of having to pay their workers what they deserve

I love it when you two are on. I found I could relate to some of these stories. Especially the one with the man setting up the children. My stepdad couldn’t set up me and my sister, we didn’t fall for it. So he’d make up things to make us look like bad kids. So we’d have to have “a talk”. Usually they didn’t end nice. I’m an old woman now, and I won’t put up with someone that is a manipulator. Especially if it harmful to a young child.

My sister is currently dealing with a situation like the job one, almost exactly. She covers so many shifts and stays late, but she had a late notice call in for being in the emergency department for an intestinal blockage, something that can KILL YOU! She literally was talking to me about that and any how apparently, their location was overstaffed for awhile and unable to provide needed working hours, so the manager overcompensated and transferred too many employees to another location and now they are constantly short-staffed. Also, my sister had to contact all of the employees to see if anyone could fill in for her, which she did. I'm sorry but that's the manager's job, especially when the employee is actively dying in the hospital!

proceeds to show blatant favouritism for her bio daughter over her step-daughter on her step-daughter's birthday
they could have literally gotten a chocolate cake and also gotten like a smaller/less expensive cake that's vanilla so that the other daughter doesn't miss out on cake and anyone else who might not like chocolate cake can then also have some of that. it's such an easy issue to fix and literally the step-mother is being so horrible, it's time for a divorce

For the last story, I feel like the mom's "you've got gay written all over your face" was an overcompensating kind of comment. Like, trying to make a joke to prove how comfortable she is what it. But she definitely shouldn't have said it. A hug and a thanks you for telling me would have worked a lot better. Although, mom's are human too, and I think this was just a misstep. The daughter's feelings are very valid and I think after she's had a little time to cool off, an apology from the mom will make her feel better. No one is truly in the wrong and I'm sure their relationship will mend soon.

I think the Birthday Cake story is a prime example for "main character syndrome". They didn't even think about "let's get the birthday girl her chocolate cake and get the other girl and her mother a small vanilla cake to share". No, no compromise whatsoever, it has to be the way i want it and no other! But the father was right, even though i believe in a functional relationship a compromise should be the first thing coming to their minds so everyone is happy 😅

That was my thought. My sister LOVES German chocolate cake and I despise it. She got one every year she asked for one and I'd just get one of those single cake pieces from Safeway of whatever flavor I wanted. Same for my father's birthday because he loves carrot cake, which I also hate. When I got lemon cakes, my sister would get a slice of German chocolate. It's not that big of a deal. Sure, birthdays are about the birthday person, but everyone involved should be able to enjoy they whole experience, too

Ive met a woman like that bridezilla before! My boyfriends long time best friend (they had been inseparable for well over a decade by the time I met my now bf. The best friend lived across the street and they would work on house projects (stacking wood for winter, roofing, that sort of thing) and get out deep into the backcountry together (ski guides). After one terrible accident one winter where the BFFs longtime girlfriend nearly died in an avalanche he inadvertently triggered and then they broke up, my bfs friend was super depressed so no one was worried (if anything we were stoked) when he started seeing this gal who was very different from our usual. She didn't do outdoorsy stuff (and was rather un athletic so legit couldnt) and was kind of high maintenance right off the bat, but again, we just were glad he wasnt focused on the accident any more. Over the first few months of their relationship she began isolating and distancing herself from longtime friends of his before genuinely acting nuts (one day she was mad he went climbing with some guys so she freaked out went to a bar alone and was texting our friend about how "when" she "gets raped" it will be "all" his "fault." Needless to say I was done with her after that. It didnt help she was a mean girl who was super passive aggressive and nasty to all female friends but particularly me. Somehow she convinced our friend that they HAVE to get married ASAP because she requires to be pregnant by age 30. Obviously myself and the rest of his friends were like DUDE, she is nuts. He even needed help from us paying for the engagement ring. My bf (as the best man and bff) spent about 6 months shuttling 4 hours each way (seasonal work means we have to travel down to the main house part of the year) to prepare this wedding with his bff only to have this disgusting girl tell him two weeks before the wedding (he already bought and paid for the tacky suits she required the groomsmen to wear) that actually as the best man he wasnt allowed to bring me as a date because I would "distract" from her "moment." She apparently did this to a couple other women who she perceived to be more attractive than her (not just me) despite their having known her now-husband longer than her. All of us too had been in relationships for a very long time with our partners compared to hers. My bf told his bff that legit if he allows his wife to behave like this then their relationship is done.
Needless to say my bf did not go to the doomed wedding and within a year this horrible woman has convinced her husband, our former bff, to sell his paid for home in Jackson WY within walking distance from the high school so they can move out to this shitty commuter neighborhood that will now force him to commute well over an hour each way. Some people really are assholes with no care of others.

Hello! USA service worker here. Tipping is a nightmare out here. The reason the person asked if they were receiving the tips is because business owners and managers can cap our tips (so we couldn't make more than a certain amount regardless of how much we worked) or they can pay an hourly wage above minimum wage (which is well below a living wage) they aren't obligated to give us anything. It changes state to state because we're the united states of nonsense. If it were a tip pool, they would have answered "yes I keep this" because it comes back to them in one way or another. They answered no because the business probably doesn't give it to them. Especially since they said they're 16, it's very easy for businesses to take advantage. Love you both!!

I do personally think tattoo prices have gotten out of hand and don’t like going to artists that charge by the hour as I’ve had many an occasion (across the states specially) where the artist was purposely taking forever to charge even more. I’ve had much better experiences with artists that negotiate a base price for their work.

The coming out story is weirdly similar to my own coming out story (which only happened a year ago despite me being a grown adult, whoops). I started dating my best friend and I hadn't ever officially come out to my family, but figured they knew. It was something I hid for so long that I had built it up a lot, so once I went to tell my mom I just burst into tears before saying anything. She tried comforting me by saying she probably knew what I was going to say. I said I wasn't completely straight (bi), and she said she always knew and then said that I must be dating my friend. I also told her I wished she would've said something sooner so I didn't have to go through everything but she said it wasn't her place. I found that kind of comforting though since I knew she loved me and that nothing was going to change. (She also told the rest of the family for me since I didn't want to, none of them were shocked lol). I hope that they patched stuff up and that the daughter gets all the support in the world! It's very scary to come out but the worst parts over! It'll just get better living your true self! And take your time, you deserve to come out on your own terms! Took me 23 years lol

In regards to the mother and the young girl coming out: I found Luxeria’s thoughts on this interesting. I personally didn’t see anything wrong with the way the mother handled it, and I think her daughter was just having a bit of teenage moment there. As a transgender person I do absolutely get how scary it is to come out and that it’s a big moment! When I came out to my mother (I didn’t straight up say I’m transgender, but that I was questioning and I’m pretty sure I am) and my mother just said “okay, and?” Like as if to say okay, that’s fine, but why are you so upset? Like more focused on why I was so upset. And I didn’t see anything wrong with it, in fact it was a huge relief for me that it was such an insignificant thing.

I think it might be the fact that for the daughter it has been something incredibly important that she has been extremely anxious about and thought about doing for a long time. Her reality is that she was risking her mother abandoning her, so while the mother clearly didn't mean to offend her, she kind of brushed off her daughter's feelings while accepting her. In that moment the daughter would have probably needed comfort and assurance and the mother acknowledging that coming out must have been very hard for her and she was proud of her and loved her no matter what. She needed the mum to in a way catch her feelings, but she didn't, and that can be very bewildering because she was left without that emotional comforting. And then she reacted to it like a typical teen would.

Cake woman sounds like she is mad jealous of the attention on the birthday girl, instead of being on her/her bio daughter :/ resentful even? She is a full orifice. Defo.

A lot of work places in my area use those point systems. It's absolutely terrible, people come to work instead of taking care of themselves, I've seen people collapse at work, come in with injuries because they had low points and not enough PTO. I've also seen work places find ways to delay retirement against the wishes of an employee with insane penalties and probation periods. Just terrible

"You get what you pay for" say it louder for the people in the back!
My last tattoo was about 6 hours of work, I had booked a 3 hour slot with my artist but had to stop after 2 for the initial work/placement of details. He very politely said that booking two 2-hour sessions for the rest was fine but he couldn't refund me for the hour left of that first appointment and I was totally fine with that. I knew that I had paid for that hour and he wouldn't be able to get anyone in for a small design in that one hour slot at immediate notice so I just laughed and said he could at least have a nice chilled break, and since his work was AMAZING he totally deserved it.
