    Every time a horn honks in Vietnam an angel gets its wings. It's a wonderful life if you can deal with imperfect beings in an imperfect world. I saw the horrors of the Vietnam War and was petrified of returning in 2015 after leaving wounded in 1968. I found it to be a different country that I learned to love for the beautiful people and their culture. I left before the lockdown in 2020 and I hope to return and see my friends again soon. Vietnam will always have a place in my heart. Cam on Vietnam.

      I was there in 1967-68 also, as a Marine. You and I had a different perspective then, and now we are old warriors looking back at an epic time of pain and suffering, and all I can say is all wars are terrible, and I wish only the best for the Vietnamese people going forward in peace.

      That's such an amazing thing to be a part of something so terrible and now something so amazing. I really do understand how you feel about Vietnam. I currently work for the Western Australian government. Good money, good perks. But I've lost sight of what's the most important. Every time I've come back from Vietnam I'm a changed man for the better. It doesn't take me long to get bitter and twisted when I'm back in Australia.

    I am an American who has lived in Hanoi for over 2 years. During that time I have been in 5 accidents on the roads, people constantly invade my space, the noise is, at times, unbearable and I can see the air and smell the water every time I go outside. That being said, moving to Vietnam is the best decision I have ever made and I have no plans to ever return to America or live anywhere else.

      I’m thinking about expatting, too. Vietnam and Taiwan are both in the top 2. America is no longer a country for old men. The moral laws in my country have been sold out to the FED and those who follow another code. I can’t speak my word or my account will be canceled. One day soon, here in America you will be charged and arrested for anti Semitism because of what “they feel” and define who you are. I’m the hell out of here. The Vietnamese are wonderful people once you get to know them. One piece of advice though. Avoid the main tourism places. The rip offs there are getting as bad as in Thailand, especially in Saigon and Hoi An. Come and explore Vietnam....and enjoy the friendliness, incredible openness of the Vietnamese! You'll be glad you did, and I want to assure you that you will want to return.

I fell hard in love with your country at the start of the pandemic -- was on my way to the Philippines (from the U.S.) with just a 2-week stopover planned in Vietnam -- then...the pandemic struck!!! -- I was put in an army barracks for 2-weeks in HCMC (strangely, very enjoyable, and...strange) -- and the doors on the Philippines shut for good, but I was able to spend the next 5 months in Vietnam (Nha Trang, mostly) and was just really...smited? with how lovely, warm, complicated, challenging, and...frankly amazing Vietnam is. Now...now that borders have reopened, I'm returning (in May), to...of all things, study Vietnamese. (Big gush, this). Just really enjoyed your presentation. Thanks again. Cheers!

    3. Got used to traffic in Saigon, i drive faster then average local, but it's still some stress always.. Other cities are way better in that. Bike taxi is cheap though.
    4. Don't really see that much trash over the Vietnam.

    Do Vietnamese people scream for service in a restaurant... like scream across the dining room...???
    Japan... so quiet and polite. China... scream across the dining room.
    Air pollution is a big deal to some people. Air Quality Hanoi - NOW - 264 - purple and red day during the day, HCM 119 but was Red all day 178. Da NAng - 31 but was yellow all day and 98 at the 48 hours high. Beijing 158 RED. Los Angeles (worst city in US) high in last 48 hours - 76... but mostly green during the day yesterday (under 50). Akron Ohio 12 - Medina Oh 7. I can't handle over 125... cough all day because my red lungs are in control.

    I love VN but agree with no.1... the noise is about the only thing that I struggled with... as I got older I do value and love my peace and quiet.. so after 2yrs of stuck at home in UK in peace and quiet I have got used to the silence so its gonna be interesting to see how much I can take when I can eventually come back to VN... (then again I did grow up in London which isnt exactly quiet! maybe its just an age thing now) everything else I just accept as it is the way it is... love it or leave it really... at the moment or future will be just half of the yr at most and can come back home to my peace and quiet when I need it... but right now I can't wait to come back to that amazing country I fell in love with...

    Trash seems to be a total non-issue here in Canada. Our culture frowns on littering so much that there's almost none. It was a shock to me when I visited the United States and saw how the trash was *Everywhere* on the ground.

    I've lived and worked in Vietnam for just over 5 years and fell in love with the culture and the people. I've live in HCMC for just over a year (Quan 1, 7 and An Phu). I have to say that I enjoyed living in the smaller towns like Trang Bang and Long Thanh more. It's not so noisy and air pollution is not such a big problem. The downside is that very few people understand English and it's a lot more "primitive" with very few shops/eateries catering for foreigners. As a whole I have to say that I was so happy in Vietnam and enjoyed every single day so much. I wish I could go back and stay forever. Love you guys!! God bless!

    I was a cab driver in the states so I have opinions about traffic. In Vietnam I saw hundreds of riders on those 150 cc motorcycles enter a five-way intersection like a huge flock of birds or a school of fish, at full speed, with inches between the bikes, and flow around each other like water. It was beautiful. I rented one and it was a gas. Other issues: where I grew up, we burned trash in a big container in the back yard. It was fun. Everybody burned their trash. I like seeing people do that wherever I am. As for cutting in line, I advise against doing that in front me me, unless you are very young, very old or very cute. Pollution? Wherever I go, I stay in the countryside, and south of Danang, for instance, the air is clear and everything is pretty. On the other hand I hope to become an opium addict in my last years and I hear the VN is tough on that euphoriant.

    Instead of banning motorbikes, why not just use electric motorbikes? I love the freedom of riding these bikes in the cities, hope they won't get cancelled in 2025.

    • @thecheekymonkey8785
      @thecheekymonkey8785 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where does the electricity to charge these e-bikes come from? Coal, so it's hardly a solution.

    • @Birdylockso
      @Birdylockso 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thecheekymonkey8785 , it's a step in the right direction. These e-bikes will reduce pollution right off the bat, then eventually, coal powerplants will be replaced by renewables down the road. Thinking we could switch from fossil fuel to renewables in an all-or-none fashion is not realistic.

    • @thecheekymonkey8785
      @thecheekymonkey8785 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Birdylockso I don't agree with you at all. The lockdown last year in Hanoi proved once again that traffic, in particular motorbikes, are the smallest contributing factor in terms of air pollution. With less than 10 percent of usual traffic on the roads, the air quality remained as bad as always. The worst contributing factor to the air pollution problem is the coal power stations, as well as the burning of waste material, in particular plastic.

    • @Birdylockso
      @Birdylockso 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thecheekymonkey8785 , that's a good point. I can see that being true. Why then, would they ban motorbikes?

    • @thecheekymonkey8785
      @thecheekymonkey8785 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Birdylockso They are banning motorbikes, because they are following in the footsteps of big brother China, where motorbikes are banned in all major cities. It's got very little to do with wanting to solve the pollution problem. It's more about improving the image and uplifting the status of the city. In Asia motorbikes are seen as the transportation of peasants, while cars are associated with wealth and status.
