  • A place of minimal development and old town charm, Captain Cook first landed here in 1778. However, this place has a deeper history of legends... and ghosts. Listen to an old legend about Waimea Canyon, one story about how the Menehune Ditch came to be, and ghosts at the old fire house on Ola Road. On today’s episode of Hawaii’s Most Haunted, we bring you to Waimea, Kauai.

In this series, Lopaka brings you some of Hawaii's Most Haunted places.
Master storyteller, Lopaka Kapanui, brings to life the feared Nightmarchers, the goddess Pele, Menehune, e‘epa, mo‘o and more. But… Hawaiian deities and spirits aren’t the only things residing in this island paradise. Here is also where the Japanese dog demons, the inugami, are sent to ruin the lives of unsuspecting families. Here is where the Filipino vampire-like creature, the aswang, roams in search of her next victim. And here is where the Portuguese witch, the feiteceira, spins her spells and curses at her whim. Rich in culture and traditions, these islands are overflowing with stories of ghosts and hauntings, creatures and curses. Lopaka is the keeper of these stories.
Beyond the cool, blue waters and balmy trade winds of our idealistic paradise is the thin veil which separates our world from the place where shadows talk back. Spirits, Ghosts, Legends, Facts... Experience the Hawaii most don't see every day.

I met the Menehune one night when I brought my young son to camp in a little known cave on Kaena point Oahu. The cave belongs to Kauhuhu, the sharkman aumakua and it is a very powerful place. I had put many polished beautifil stones as offerings in the A-A lava holes in the walls before sleeping. In the middle of the night I woke into that middle place between sleep and dreams and thought I heard my sons footsteps around my head in the sand. I thought he was going to the bathroom and went back to sleep. When we woke in the morning, there were tiny divots around in the sand like footsteps and my son had not gone to the bathroom. More interesting was that All the stones were gone from the wall...

I think they live in the walls of the valley. Get plenty caves there. Try walk on Menehune road at night and look towards the valley walls. You will feel like someone is watching you. sometimes you can hear the bushes shake.

In High School we’d sit at the picnic table next to the Cook statue and eat food. When the Robert’s tourist bus showed up, we’d say our food tasted good, just like Capt Cook lol.

I challenge someone to hang out down below Princeville's cliff line along the ocean during dusk time for 30 days straight. I guarantee one night they will run away and not want to return for any more nights, they will tell you it sounded like war drums. I know from experience more than once.

Just subbed! I vaguely remember a story where at midnight the spirits with spears would walk along the path. If they saw you, they would take you.

I am glad that you studied under Glen grant. I went to a tour is his a while ago. It’s sad that he left too early. I di have a question when we went on his tour he showed us some very scary pictures. I was wondering if in your tours you show these pictures or is there a way you have a tour that can just show these pictures. Thank you very much! I hope you can reach back to me. Thank you again! Brandon

I'm originally from Kauai and I've always thought Wailua and Haena was the most haunted areas on the island.

Hiwayz, did you or anyone in your family take anything like lava rocks?? There are tales of Tutu Pele, Goddess of Fire. If you take any lava rocks you will be cursed. People did this anyway and suffered that they actually sent back the rocks with a note of apology. You can try to have the house smudged to see if the entity leaves.
I am not sure of the path or area you were in. Something must’ve happened in that moment and attached itself to the item, if you happened to pick up a souvenir.

So last night my girlfriend said my son couldn't sleep... he has made urine in his clothes. Which is fairly common if he doesn't use the bathroom before bed....well this morning she was saying my son saw an old man jumping into my straw fishing hat I have hanging on by the wall .. this morningNi found my charger for my camera I've been looking for.. not sure if I misplaced it . And that was a way of showing me... .. now I'm talking to my son. It's even more creepy because he's telling me the old man doesn't listen and do plenty bad things.. and he says it's just a head..
