Awesome! We both put out a Movian video on the same day - and neither of us knew it was coming! If that isn't two great minds thinking alike, I don't know what is. :) Thanks for putting together so many great videos over the years. You're like Ferris Bueller: you're a righteous dude. :)
PS3 was an absolute beast of an HTPC back in the day. I remember discovering it could play VOB (DVD rip) files natively, AND you could use DLNA to stream them over a network. This was before Plex. Would I bother with Movian today? Probably not. There's lots of options now that will do it. The Xbox One S and Series S, which both have native Kodi and VLC apps, make excellent media players if you want something you don't have to fart around with. But I always applaud those who are keeping these older consoles not just alive, but adding new features as well.
MKV is just a container, it'll work fine as long as the video codec is one that's natively supported by the PS3 (e.g. x264). If the video codec is natively supported by the PS3 then Movian uses the native support to play it, regardless of the container format, so that's why MKV-x264 works. When it comes to x265, unfortunately the PS3 does not have native support, and while Movian includes ffmpeg, the performance is awful for the same reason why many games of the time that were released for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 performed better on the 360 - If you want something to perform well on the PS3 you need to code it specifically for the PS3, and you need to use these 6 extra SPU cores if you want to achieve anything. Theoretically x265 on the PS3 is very possible, but only if someone reimplements it from scratch specifically for the PS3.
I have something strange happening with my M7. When I go into certain folders with my tv shows for example it will replace one episode with some other media's name. Like Kim Possible episode one would get retitled to a Bible movie but the episode would remain the same.
I updated mine through movian m seven I updated minecraft m seven when it notified me on the top of the screen that there was a new update that was at 11. 00
Uncanny timing mate, I've just started using this for watching TV shows, there's something about owning media, even if it's just on an HDD. Streaming sites were so convenient but I'm definitely moving away from a lot of them, TH-cam will always be king tho.
This reminded me so much of XBMC on the OG XBOX. Is there something similar to this on PS4? I know there's a PS4 media player natively, but.. Miss those extra options shown here, it's hard to setup streaming from own server - having to register accounts, etc. 😞 Or am I missing something?
@@MrMario2011 Thanks, just checked it out. Seems the PS4 really could use a better media player imho - hopefully some much much better at coding than me will do so one day. Until then, this is an alternative - thanks!
I can't watch a season of an old anime. It keeps crashing (memory usage) and when play the video it has stuttering. For movies, a single video file on the movie folder, there's no problem. Any solution?
@@MrMario2011 you were right. It's the codec. It seems that the PS3 is compatible up to h264 High (Level 4.1). More than that is trash, even with h264 High 10 (Level 4.1). Thank you, mister👍
I have a question I've put some mkv files (movies) onto my PS3. Some files are working with sound others are just playing with no audio is there any way I can fix this?
Which is a whole different console? That's the same as telling someone there's 0 reason to use a console since PC can do the same thing. People have their reasons for their usage!

That's how it goes sometimes 😂
You guys are awesome 😎👏🏽

A huge reason why I got my first PS3 back in the day was due to media playback, definitely advertised itself well saying It Only Does Everything.
Mr. Mario uploading a video = good day.
Big love

Yeah, so really at the end of the day... Stick to x264 on the PS3 hah

I use this every night because its the best way to play video files on my CRTs
Super nice!
Using Movian for years, only swapped it for movies to my NVIDIA shield and the reason was the H265 that it cant play. For the rest great media player.
Absolutely!
I updated mine through movian m seven I updated minecraft m seven when it notified me on the top of the screen that there was a new update that was at 11. 00
And all my movies play just fine with no codec problem

Hey, absolute love TH-cam, I get it. Channel surfing on here has completely replaced channel surfing network TV for me 🤣
Brother, I have this application and it contains many movies, but in Russian
I hope this is a new updated version of this app. Because the version I have sucks! It hardly plays ANYTHING I throw at it.
Hope it helps!
Is there any way to watch original bluray disc movie with external subtitles on PS3?
Not that I know of, unless you make your own BD copy and bring your own subtitles file.
This reminded me so much of XBMC on the OG XBOX.

You could check out pPlay for PS4, I did a video on it a while ago.

it crashes apon openning (ps3hen user here)
a SoundCloud app one day? 🙃
That would be cool, although I doubt we would see it.

Codecs
@MrMario2011 I don't think so. It's a thing of searching the mediainfo of all files at once.

That would depend on the codecs used, some won't be compatible with the PS3
Thank you, been a fan of yours for a long time you helped me and so many others with cfw thank you Mr mario 😎
Anyone getting unable to open resource error? Please help!!
no way mans got void eternal on the ps3 goat
My bad, should have put bummer on there.
@ I don’t hate the new stuff by any means but dam bummer n reaper will forever hit different for me
Does it support hevc and x265 now?
It'll be SLLLLOOOOOWWWWWWW
@@MrMario2011 damn well at least it can play anything x264 right?
i respect the nothing nowhere album haha
Great example 😁
I'm using movian as file manager 😆
LOL AMAZING
@@MrMario2011 yep! the only file that's really slow to load/list is PS2 BIN.ENC files especially when there's 10 or more in the same folder
Navigating our consoles? what is this sorcery?.
:p
movian needs to be ported to ps4 and ps5 as the media players suck
Movians

0 reason to use this. kodi works on Xbox series consoles and can do the same thing and play 4K movies

This is a PS3 video, you tard
I'm literally using it now, and I was before I saw this video. 1 reason to use it is because I want to watch something off my HDD 🤔
can you use invidious on the xbox though? take that, microshaft shill.
