    It's hard to see such a talented athlete struggling so much, but I still appreciated her fight and the unique elegance especially during the spins and the spirals.

    Ouch, I felt that knee crack at 3:41. Kudos to her for continuing on with a smile no matter what. That's professionalism and maturity on display.

    This demonstrates how strong she is as a person. How many other skaters can go through something like this and not withdraw or pull a temper tantrum. I have so much respect for her to try all her jumps, do both programs, and finish.

    Wow, I actually kind of liked this performance. Incredible that it had so many falls and step outs from the jumps yet I still enjoyed watcing this performance. The beillman spin at the end with the haunting music worked perfectly. Alissa has been my favorite skater for years. Keep at it Alissa and best of luck!

    I'll take the falls for the beautiful spin positions and grace throughout the footwork sequences! Seriously though, she deserves a lot of admiration to be able to get up and keep going and to even smile when it was clear she was on the verge of bawling her eyes out. I for one, do not think Alissa Czisny needs to "go away", the US needs her grace and we definitely need her maturity. And anyone who can maintain such a gracious attitude like her should be considered a tried and true champion.

    As it turns out, she had a serious hip injury, which was misdiagnosed. She was recently diagnosed with having a torn labrum, which prevented her from performing a lot of her jumps and spins. If she had the correct diagnosis early on, she would not have competed. Now, she will be having surgery to hopefully correct the problem. I wish her the very best, and hope that she will return to skating, and end up skating better than ever before.

    AC is an amazing figure skater. Watching this skate is heartbreaking. I wish I knew what was troubling her. I am SO glad she is skating again next season. This kind of performance can only give her strength. When AC is on, she is doubtless the best American figure skater since Michelle Kwan, and she is on more than she is off.

  • @shannonparis30

    It's so heartbreaking to see her fall because she was going for the jumps. She was a great.skater but the.injury and her confidence was being lost. I am sure she wanted amazing free skate after a bad short program. She was capable of better than that. She seemed to be in a good mood before it started. But I give her credit for finishing but I felt so bad when I first saw them. It's a shame it happened at World's. Because she was.one of the best in the world and this happened

    Alissa's surgery was a success, it was peformed on June 6, D-Day, a good day for invasive surgery. In four months she should be recovered, in time for Nats and Worlds.

  • @gallantrycross
    @gallantrycross 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anyway, Alissa scored a 121 in the lp this season and a 64 in the sp. That's a 185 combined total! She seeks to achieve a sublime performance and these tend to be risky, while other skaters prefer a more reliable style and technique. (I must congratulate Carolina Kostner for her modern dance/Martha Grahmn style this year). Alissa can hit the heights, but sometimes only once or twice a season, but when she does her peformance it is the apotheosis of ladies figure skating.

  • @gallantrycross
    @gallantrycross 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was Worlds so the other skaters may have been psyching her out. In sports there's the fake-out, the double fake-out, the psyche-out and the reverse psyche-out. I'm sure there was a plethora of head games going on. Alissa's 2009 sp at Nats is stiil the apotheosis of ladies figure skating.

  • @gallantrycross
    @gallantrycross 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It takes 3 to 4 months for a torn labrum to heal, then there will be rehabilitation, so Alissa might miss Grand Prix but make Nats and Worlds. YUNA just announced she'll compete at the Olympics! The race is on. I think the top contenders will include Gracie Gold, Julia Lipnitskaya and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva--the New Wave of ladies figure skaters. Alissa will make the Olympics, she'll be back in top form.

  • @LiamForeman
    @LiamForeman 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This a a multi-US National champion, and this performance while maybe not TYPICAL from her, is not surprising in the least. A gorgeous woman with great spins, it's amazing the number of titles she's been given. (At least one of her US titles was bogus). Some are saying possible injury, except she's put out these programs with alarming frequency. Very sad, and how painful some of those falls looked. That 2axel at the end made me cringe because you could see it coming from the set up.

    Yuka Sato, her coach, has gone through a similar period in her career (between 1990 and 1991) when she had some terrible competitions in which she missed practially all of her jumps--after a couple of impressive seasons through 1989. We all know how Yuka came back stronger than ever after that--so let's hope Alissa does the same. I know she can. I know Yuka can get her there.

    Oh god. We've all been there, that competition where you just can't get your feet underneath you, guess this was hers. She's such a beautiful skater too - her jumps just looked a little underrotated (the lutz was the one I noticed, can't remember the others too well) but she was probably just going through a bad patch, she'll pick back up again
    Also, I would KILL for the rotational speed she gets on her layback, it blows my mind!

    We're three short of 20,000 views. Even when Alissa fails, she does it in spectacular fashion. If Alissa hadn't been injured, she could have won Worlds. She's still the best fugure skater in history. My father saw Sonja Henie skate. Alissa will be back in two more months. In the meantime the season is shaping up for a tremendous Grand Prix season! These youngsters coming up, like Gracie Gold And Julia Lipnitskaia, will shake things up.

    Alissa is part Norwegian, Swedish, English, French, Icelandic and Russian. Maybe that's why she was all over the place. But seriously, she was injured at Grand Prix Final and the skaters commented that the ice was frozen wrong at Worlds, it was too brittle. So damn the French. Alissa is the flagship of American figure skating.

    Just pure lines and immense spinning ability. That closing layback spin is iconic and had the crowd silent. Just magical. Unfortunate injury but that’s part of the sport. Ballerinas like her are seldom in this sport. The dumbest thing I find is the commentators saying it’s an eating disorder, just ridiculous. Alissa is a prime example of a perfect fit for the sport and her athleticism. Just a bad day with multiple factors and infractions. Seriously with commentators would be actual past skaters with experience. Seeing AC cry at the end just shows her true love, she cared and went for every jumó instead of backing out, but you can see her landing leg could not withstand the landing pressure

  • @mlc2005
    @mlc2005 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do feel for her for sure, but this isn't the only time she's had a total meltdown. She'll be in the top three in one event and then 23rd in the next. Obviously she's incredibly talented, but she needs to find a good sport's psychologist b/c if this keeps happening, the US will end up with only one spot for the Worlds and even Olympics in 2014. I hope she can prove that she's got the consistency to keep things together.

  • @gallantrycross

    They had samples of Napolean's hair because he used to give it out for souveneirs, and analyzed it. They found he had been slowly poisoned, a bit at a time, over about 50 times with arsenic. I have stood next to the tomb of Napolean in Paris. It is quite impressive.

  • @anne91276
    @anne91276 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    gallantrycross, We'll see if the surgery improves her consistency. The only thing that could be her saving grace is practice, and a change in technique that was used which may have contributed to her hip problems. Did Miki have surgery on her injuries, as well as Michelle Kwan, who was thought to have surgery on her hips as well? Miki Ando improved her techniques and is currently not suffering from any injuries.

    According to a recent article/interview with Alissa, she doesn't want to go out and retire like this, so her goal is to keep competing. She actually sounds pretty tough in the interview. And it's her right. When you get to the top, you decide what you do and why. I don't like this performance obviously, but I think she's a great example to people who feel like giving up.

    This Freeskate of Alissa's is actually the most dramatic event of the whole contest. The USA was just two points shy of falling to only one placement for next year's Worlds!!! As for ice, it has 15 phases (or crystalline structures), depending on temperature and how it was frozen. There's a great Wikipedia article on it called Ice. Maybe the French added some chemical to the ice, also. After all, they poisoned Napolean with arsenic.

    what exactly is the "kc" ?

  • @seattlesix6
    @seattlesix6 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ice was very brittle and that's why a lot of them had problems. But, it's not just setting the "temperature wrong" to blame. The 5 factors that contribute to brittle ice are:
    • ice-making water temperature
    • ice temperature
    • building air temperature
    • building humidity level
    The ice technicians should've listened to the skaters the first day of practice and fixed the ice ...

  • @gallantrycross
    @gallantrycross 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was being funny. Remember the old sense of humour? Alissa is my favorite skater. The ice was frozen wrong at Nice, I wrote ottavio Cinquanta a letter aboit it, stating that ice should be consistent at all competitions. There's 15 phases, or crystalline structures of ice, depending on how it's frozen, temperature, etc. I think the stagehands at Nice maybe leaked antifreeze into the ice and had to freeze it extra hard. Anyway, that's my theory.

    A disastrous program at best but kudos to this girl to keep fighting throughout. I am sure most skaters would have doubled the triples to avoid falling and a one point deduction. I hope that she will be able to come back stronger and more determined after this and not end her competitive career on this note. I have to say though, I hated the music,hated the choreography but loved the spins.

  • @mlc2005

    I'm just worried about the status of figure skating here in the US. I mean, the competitions aren't even televised anymore. I'm 32, and I can't remember a time when Worlds wasn't on prime time. It seems the sport was at it's all time high in popularity during Kwan's reign, and then started slipping.
    Of course the new scoring system has a lot to do with it, but every country needs someone to root for , and sadly the US doesn't have it right now.

    related to the posts below- I don't understand either why the commentators don't challenge the judging more if they called them out publicly then maybe they'd think twice about such bias in the scoring. Wow, I am speechless. This performance just left me speechless absolutley breathless. I have never seen a murder on ice in my entire life. She didn't land anything cleanly. Even the triple flip may have been cheated but at the least there were problems with the landing. Nice spins though but really something is wrong.. I think it is time to move on possibly. This was just horrible. I know she tried her best but it was just scarey absolutely scarey.

  • @indysk8r32

    I feel so bad for her. It breaks my heart to see her fall like this because everyone knows she can do these jumps easily. This happens to every skater where for some unknown reason the jumps just disappear. Nothing can get them to come back except allowing it to happen naturally. Unfortunately it happened at the worst possibly time and place for her. She's still do beautiful and her spins are of course first rate and she wouldve won the whole competition if they scored on spin position alone. I

    Aww, that was so painful to watch. Maybe the "Valse Triste" (sad waltz) jinxed her this season. I hope she doesn't retire because I don't want to see her go out like this. She'll always be one of my favorites skaters. And to all the people who diss her, let's see you go out there and do better. Any figure skater knows that there will be days when the jump just don't happen. Alissa went for every triple, performed all her other element beautifully and still had the grace to smile.

  • @crugzy

    Who even wants to compete when you know that even if Chan falls Twice he still beats you by 30 points? It just doesn't compute for me. At all! Reminds me of the Russian Ice Dance and Pairs dominance days, didn't matter how well you did you knew you were never going to win. And also Ashley Wagner was really undermarked on her short program and her long, It was clear that Costner whom I love, was going to get her world title come hell or high water, and with out the lutz and a not so great flip.

I understand pretty well what competition pressure feels like, and understand full well that some of us, no matter where we're from or how we're raised, are simply not competitors. I'm not a competitor. Alissa is also not a competitor. I'm not hating on her - it's out of concern for a very sweet person and amazing performer that I say she needs to turn pro.

    Is that why she was placed 10th in the national 2010 and come back the year after and won 1st place in the national (1st in the Grand Prix final and 5th in the World)? If she was not a strong person mentally, she wouldn't have come back and compete again. Sometimes it's just a mind controlling issue and learning process in order to deal with herself better. She has been consistent these past two years and it was just a melt down at the world. Look at Carolina Kostner from 2009 till now?

It's an on going process for her to deal with her fear and insecurities, there is no doubt that she is an amazing skater, it's a part of competition where she will continuously learn how to focus her mind and be in the zone. Unfortunately fro Alissa, she might be remembered as one of the most difficult mental cases. She ususally talks about finding her feet but what about finding her head. Everything is inside her head.

    I really do miss the old judging system! I think it has really taken the fun out of it all! Alyssa is so beautiful, obviously the artistry is there just not the jumps. The fact you cannot watch it on regular tv frustrates me! If I was a skaters family I would want to see them. I agree the US ladies have got to get it together! Men too! The U.S medaled in every Worlds up until 1993 then medaled every year after 1995. I just think the opinion on jumps and triples is to great and no quality

    She never really has a consist jump skill. I don't know how to word this. I feel sorry for her and for UFSA.

    So when are YOU gonna become national champion and be beautiful enough TO be a runway model again?

    @barkingtree88: LOL That's the funniest comment I've seen on TH-cam in quite a while. Very witty indeed. Yes, Alissa's Freeskate at 2012 Worlds may be the biggest meltdown in figure skating history. Alissa manages to get into the history books again.

    So we're all agreed then? Alissa should change her jump technique? Julia Lipnitskaia and Gracie Gold have good techniques.

    Now we know why she had to get hip surgery like a month ago. She will come back and better :)
