I think what's most interesting about this, is that I think it will make very high level, talented fighting game players who play other fighting games want to compete in Street Fighter 6. I'm not sure if the prize pool would necessarily bring in that many intermediate players, much less casuals, but I think the high level players that will flock around Street Fighter 6 and their focus on it will bring attention to this game. The prize pool is also a good indication of the scale of tournament they are going for. I don't think casuals will see a prize pool, but I think they will see a big tournament. Even though the FGC embraces its variety, I think that it will be super beneficial to have a centralizing game. Since I think casuals will want to get into something big, something that they can relate to other people for, and something that feels important to a larger mainstream community.
directly it probably won't indirectly, big fat chance of a big fat yes, every and any competitive or wannabe competitive FG player will want to try at the very least, and thus offer media coverage, to get into SF6 by now if an evo champ gets 10k if he's lucky, that's probably gonna be the prize for the 8th place in the future capcom cup lol
It will bring in new players too, not just high level. Because when you are young, anything seems achievable, and is. They might not think they can win THIS year, but just seeing that it is possible to win a million bucks from the game will inspire a lot of young players to try it out. I know it would have done so for me as a teen. Having it as a cool million is a big move too, it's such a nice number and the word 'millionaire' still holds weight, even if it's not really as big a deal as it was 20 years ago.
nail on the head. love the FGC's variety and openess but a centralizing game would launch the FGC into a larger stratosphere and the net good outweighs any negatives.
This is exactly what I thought of and instantly any devs who want people to actually build hype and competitiveness around their game are gonna have to actually support their competitive scene or they're gonna have no one playing their game.
Tbh it always felt like SF was the "centralising game" for the FGC considering people commenting on "Capcom elitism" back in the day, some coing the days of early SFV as the "dark ages of fighting games" when it was really only Capcom in that predicament, plus the number of influential games they've made that affected other FGs. If anything its just a return to form from SF4 era after the miss-step that was SFV.
The genius of this marketing play is it could force other bigger fighting game companies to drastically raise their prize pools too otherwise all the top players and new players will stick with SF6.
This is the biggest prize pool in fighting game history. Previously it was for brawlhalla season 2022 with $1.32 million. Capcom just saw that and thought "yeah I can do more" thats insane.
I REALLY hope this changes things, obviously not for every game (since it's not feasible for all of them) but for AAA fighting games really upping the price pools will make a HUGE difference Super sick to see
It really is but sad to see the biggest FGC events like EVO won't invest like this, because the studios want control of the branding/promoting over the competition.
Every game can have huge prize pool if you let the community fund it. Dota 2 The International got 30M+ prize pool not because of Valve, they only donated 1M every year. So where did they got the remaining prize pool? Its from Battle pass. They allocated 50% of total sales into the prize pool. Just make an ingame dlc, give it cool costume and stuff, and boom! Huge prize pool
@@blushingralseiuwu2222 I'd much rather pay for a battle pass than just buy the outfits outright. Instead of buying an outfit pack we could play to earn outfits, Titles, Colours, Emotes, Character parts ect it's a layup for Capcom and a more fun way to get new things
Even thou he may not win, it would still be a win win situation for content creator. More people plays it, watch it, and talk about it. Hoping many more years for SF6
Haven't watched cap cup for years and this prize pool makes me interested again. I'm sure a lot of ppl feel the same way and it will probably break records of live viewers. Can't wait either
With a prize pool that large we'll most likely see pro players from all major fighting games trying their hand at SF6. Crazy matches such as Justin Wong vs Knee or Sonic Fox vs Punk might actually happen
Sonic Fox is gonna be a real threat in SF6. Dude is INSANE at every game he plays. Give him the motivation to get serious about it and he's gonna murder hundreds in pools.
And they already raised the stakes with sheer content of the game alone. Devs are going up against both the casual and pro sides of Street Fighter. I feel like majority of them only have enough resources to challenge either content or e-sports, but not both.
I’m so happy for the fgc in general and proud of capcom for stepping up and paying these professionals the way they should be. It’s good for the health of our community, amazing promotion for SF6, and a great statement of confidence by Capcom.
This is great, I don't usually watch Capcom cup but 1 being excited about SF6, but also knowing the stakes of the next tournament makes this a must watch event for me. This also means the narrative for these competitors is gonna be much more compelling these players are literally competing to change their lives! Also I'm Dominican so seeing MenaRD winning this one definitely gives me someone to root for in the million dollar one. Like this a lot!
I am just a casual person and I must admit Namco must make a similar move when Tekken 8 becomes their Flagship tournament title! Wow! An announcement like this makes me want to buy the game just to thank Capcom for supporting gamer’s fantasies everywhere.
This is literally the new era of Street Fighter. A renew Capcom, newer characters and a new prize pool which would give more players to motivate and try their best to win Capcom cup this year. I can see those who retired would come back and try their hands on SF6 just to enter CPT and win that 1mil. This is gonna be the hypest Street Fighter yet to date.
Winning the next Capcom Cup will literally make someone a millionaire. This will most certainly be a momentous time in the FGC. It's gonna be NUTS. Can't wait! 😀

I honestly think this may just be the move necessary to kick the FGC into actually having decent pots for their big tournaments. Someone just had to take that first step, and frankly I'm shocked it was Capcom who decided to take that risk.
I already know I’m going to shed a tear at the winners speech 🥹The amount of grinding/commitment they are going to have to do to win is going to be insane.
This is huge. My first FG tournaments back in Tekken Tag 1 didn’t even have prize pools. EVO when it was in Cal Poly Pomona barely gave hundreds to its top players back then. The most money we used to make even up to SF4 was in money matches. But now we’re here. I’m too old and have too many responsibilities to get that mil, but I’m excited for the young and hungry people. We arcade goers were hungry way too early.
This year really is dub after dubs for fighting games... Sf6 and T8 being teased, announced and soon to be released... Rollback becoming more and more integrated... And now huge prize pools, which is unheard of for fighting games... Super excited for the future
Capcom is placing sooo much trust in this game to the point of making the biggest prize money tournament in fighting games ever. This game will be their biggest blockbuster game ever in the street fighter series.
THIS IS WHAT IM TALKONG ABOUT! I know that companies have to put money towards other projects since they always have multiple going at a time. Companies with a big name in the industry like Capcom does in their industry have so much power to make an enjoyable experience for the players. This benefits playerbase cause now SF6 gets more eyes on its rollout, this helps the Esports scene with tons of hype and tons of tech a new gameplay bound to be discovered with such a huge wave of high level players coming into it. Long term, it helps the company cause imagine how much they are benefiting from the PR off of this move currently. More companies with such big resources like Capcom does need to do this more.
Capcom is killing it in recent years, looks like they've found their prime, this will make the street fighter community grow i'm sure and the game deserve it. Also can't wait to see what they have in store for monster hunter !
Monster hunter world lit a fire under Capcom and it's getting hotter and hotter. We've got SF, 6 and the Resi 4 remake coming soon and they're getting set to announce monster hunter world 2 later this year. it's hard to think of a publisher on a bigger roll over the past few years.
@@DayFul It honestly is hard to think of any that's doing as good, only IP i'm really missing right now is Dead rising tbh. 4 was kind of meh, and it has been a while since it came out, would love to get a reboot that goes back to the source of what made it fun. Or a new story with new character.
CAPCOM is making banger games and serving the community at the same time in recent years. This tournament is now officially matching those big leagues such as MOBA and FPS in terms of scale and attention in a community perspective. And if they really like what Max said get their JP HQ’s attention, give a couple years it might actually match the big leagues in a direct comparison. And this is just from SF alone.
They do, but Capcom USA has finally convinced Japan that it's also crazy good marketing to bring in top players/streamers/personalities from other FGs and other esport scenes. The 'free' marketing they get for their other games during all of these tournaments is also incredibly good.
Lmao, I heard Tsujimoto, and I'm like the Monster Hunter guy? I was thoroughly confused seeing him come on stage until Max said this is his dad, they look incredibly similar. Had no clue they were both in the company together!

damn straight. it brings in more eyeballs thanks to the higher stakes AND it'll bring in a lot more talent. both good things. Also shows how confident capcom is in their product as well.
The bigger prize pool is essential to the growth of the sport. Sure, it's cool that the best of the best will claim that first prize, but the real beneficiaries are the lower-ranked players who might become financially stable enough to pursue this as a career, even if they never take top place.
Yea big prizepool also means more ppl take it seriously as well as more sponsor will do too. I can see lot esports team start signing some SF6 players now, even if non FGC one. More sponsor equal bigger competitive scene also, and more ppl can pursue fighting game as career, at leats for SF6 for now.
Even if pre-orders are not looking real good, they are about to be. Anyone who is a pro, is definitely inclined and thinking about playing SF6 because a million dollars is life changing. But it's not just that, the top 16 prize pool is going to be huge as well. The 16th place in Capcom Cup probably make more money than the Tekken, Mortal Kombat, or Smash world champion.
Seeing capcom put this much effort into their game is insane. Makes it feel like they really believe in their product and esports. Almost brings a tear to my eye lol
I always expected Riot to shake things up with their fighting game and the support they'd have given to their fighter, but Capcom is definitely putting their chips on the table first. FGC looking up and up for the esports scene, and I'm all for it
Damnn SF6 had been great almost every aspect. Gameplay, Design, Story, Netcode, Extra Contents. And now Competitive Scene! It is gonna be a hella MASSIVE LAUNCH, if they can managed the online battle well.
It's really cool this is happening, but I'm in the same boat as Max. I'm unfortunately past my days of being able to grind out these games like I'd want to anymore. Too many responsibilities, too little time. But man oh man, if this opportunity was on the table 20 years ago...
I keep being impressed by Capcom and how they seem to be making every right move when it comes to SF6. Game looks great. Gameplay looks amazing. Starting roster is good with interesting designs. Cross play and rollback netcode Tons of content on release 1 million god damn dollar prize money for next Capcom Cup. I love it!
The prize pool made me install SFV again. But that's not the only reason: I was having doubts if keep playing Tekken or switch to SF with that huge amount of support for their community. The country i live in is no longer in the TWT list since 2021, and it has been horrible to look for any help or reason as on why is Venezuela out of TWT, it is very discouraging as a TO not having answer and is very discouraging as a player to not have chances as everyone else. The very moment i picked SFV months ago i found out that Venezuela IS in included in CPT, and has really good support for their competitors. I've never played 2D fighting games, but i'm going to begin my SF journey.
Best thing? You don’t need to travel in order to reach Capcom Cup. With online tournaments and World Warrior you could try to get qualified if you don’t have the means to travel but have the skill. This is going to be nuts.
I think the deal is Capcom is profitable so they can throw this level of support behind one of their franchises. They went from a company that nearly went under almost 8 years ago to having one of the best runs of successive releases in the last 5-6 years.
I’m not competing at all but damn do I feel the energy! Capcom just put out the call to action to people around the world to make goddamn history and win from the next Capcom Cup.
Preorders for 6 must be at LTD of SFV for them to do something this wild. You could also see Max contemplating signing up to compete once that announcement flashed up lol
Honestly I've competed in locals but like I'm 27 now and this is absolutely a game changer I'm literally going to compete in this even if I don't make number one I can say I was there for the turning point! This is a huge deal!!
The fact that second place down still get over 1 million in winnings is insane to me. Imagine getting 8th place in the tournament and still winning 100 grand.
I expect an updated Mega64 video about the new price pool Also Max is going to turn in the wondering SF6 warrior, leaving his family behind, living divorce Ken timeline
Capcom has made the right move, they were the market leaders of the FGC with Street Fighter 4, reviving the WHOLE industry. It is only right that they are the ones to lead the industry into serious E sports with Street Fighter 6
To me, this is a clear sign that Capcom has the upmost confidence in their game. That they are foreseeing a long-term future for it; and also that (not sure if that's good, or not, or a bit in-between) they're going to milk the crap out of this game over the coming years (there might even be a larger roster than SF5 in the end, not sure how that will go for balancing but we'll see; as long as it's _fun_ I guess it'll be fine overall, similar to Third Strike). 1 Million dollars for 1st place is a big deal of course. But it's just competition, in the end. The other fighting game developers out there will follow with that, they won't just sit back and give their 1st position winners a peanut by comparison or they'll lose audience and competitors for their respective games. Ultimately though, the build up to SF6's release and the first impressions situation for the game is such a difference (for the best) compared to SF5 that it's just making SF5 look like an amateur project at best (I mean prior to and up to its release).
I was shook when I saw this! Huge Capcom W Wonder how other fighting game companies will react…especially Tekken and MK. SF was like “1 mill bones for our tourney victory…your move…”
Is this a 1-time thing though is the question... Capcom Cup X is a big milestone so I could see them going big for it, then lowering it afterwards to 500k for 1st place and a million total overall. Still big, but not generational as Max put it (unless the same person keeps winning)
It would be a very poor look for them if they decreased the pool after this. I think we (fans and capcom) hope this huge pool will make SF6 go bonkers and Capcom cup 11, and 12 have a similar prize pool.
I think it very well could be if profit can't sustain it. This is essentially a big marketing push to get all eyes on SF6 for launch. The esports side will eventually have to be able to support itself through DLC packs and advertising. The future prize pools will definitely be determined by that sustainability. Who would want to throw away millions without seeing sufficient returns?
Capcom is making a bet on the FGC. This kind of money and popularity will change fighting games as we know it. Guys wtf, I think we're about to be officially esports?
Holy shit, this new season of Who wants to be a Millionaire is gonna be hype. I wonder if they still allow lifelines.

The prize pool is also a good indication of the scale of tournament they are going for. I don't think casuals will see a prize pool, but I think they will see a big tournament. Even though the FGC embraces its variety, I think that it will be super beneficial to have a centralizing game. Since I think casuals will want to get into something big, something that they can relate to other people for, and something that feels important to a larger mainstream community.
directly it probably won't
indirectly, big fat chance of a big fat yes, every and any competitive or wannabe competitive FG player will want to try at the very least, and thus offer media coverage, to get into SF6 by now
if an evo champ gets 10k if he's lucky, that's probably gonna be the prize for the 8th place in the future capcom cup lol
GET IN THERE MAX! ONE LAST RIDE!

Fr bro this made me smile so hard 🔥
I REALLY hope this changes things, obviously not for every game (since it's not feasible for all of them) but for AAA fighting games really upping the price pools will make a HUGE difference
Super sick to see
It really is but sad to see the biggest FGC events like EVO won't invest like this, because the studios want control of the branding/promoting over the competition.
Wish there was enough of an audience for KoF to get this appeal.

I’m so happy for the fgc in general and proud of capcom for stepping up and paying these professionals the way they should be. It’s good for the health of our community, amazing promotion for SF6, and a great statement of confidence by Capcom.
Capcom really did just pull a "I'm not gonna sugarcoat it." for SF6.
Ironically while dumping tons of sugar to _sweeten the pot_ 🤣
One MILLION??!! Ohhhhhh this is gonna be GOOD… DEFINITELY tuning in.

Hmmp. i *wish.* Not possible. They're like typewriters now.

I honestly think this may just be the move necessary to kick the FGC into actually having decent pots for their big tournaments. Someone just had to take that first step, and frankly I'm shocked it was Capcom who decided to take that risk.
Surprised NRS hadn't gotten the greenlight from Warner, for this kind of prize money, years and years ago.
this.
@@TheCJRhodes Isn't WB having a financial crisis at the moment?
Man, just sell dlc, give it cool costume, and allocate 50% of that dlc earning into prize pools. Its easy to have huge prize pools.

I was already hyped for SF6 but this makes the CPT events so much more fun with the stakes being higher than ever.
Thank you for summing up so eloquently why this means so much to us 😭🖤
THIS IS WHAT IM TALKONG ABOUT!

Or a new story with new character.
And it all started when Resident Evil 7 was born.
What surprises me is Capcom doing this.
I was hoping something like this from Riot and Project L.

Capcom is taking competitive fighting games and competitive sf to the next level. Big business/power moves.

Even if pre-orders are not looking real good, they are about to be. Anyone who is a pro, is definitely inclined and thinking about playing SF6 because a million dollars is life changing. The prize pool made me install SFV again. But that's not the only reason:
I was having doubts if keep playing Tekken or switch to SF with that huge amount of support for their community.

Capcom has so much faith in SF6 and I’m pumped
I was shook when I saw this! Huge Capcom W
Wonder how other fighting game companies will react…especially Tekken and MK.
