- An effective client consultation is arguably one of the most important parts of a hairstylist's business. These are the five topics I address with every one of my new color clients.
1. The current health of their hair
2. Has their hair been previously colored?
3. The maintenance of their desired color
4. The price of their desired color
5. How did they find my business?
I guarantee that successfully discussing these five topics will turn your new client consultation into a booked color service. If you deliver on your consultation service plan this client will undoubtedly become a long-term client; guaranteed to produce dependable income for years to come.

Hey it's me, Samantha! I am a course creator, salon owner, stylist, mom & wife.
And LISTEN GIRL, I GET IT. A lot of hairstylists shy away from numbers.
We spend so much time being artists, that we’re not aware of what comes in and what goes out. But we need to know how to do the numbers better if we want to have a thriving, successful business.
And that’s why I started A Wealthy Hairstylist.
To help stylists like you achieve more wealth by becoming financially savvy and ultimately more profitable. As hairstylists, we aren't taught how to measure profitability or track our growth, so we don’t know where we’ve been and where we are now. And I think that’s ridiculous. It’s time to learn those skills so we can create long-term wealth, feel confident in our financials, and craft a business we love.
Let’s get you started on your journey to wealth today.

What is root melt
A root melt is essentially creating a transitional color from a clients roots into another color. For example I create most root melts to help achieve a softer regrowth for my clients who would normally have highlights. After washing out all my clients highlights(foils), I would apply a root melt using a semi permanent color ( i like redken shades or colornace) at my clients roots while they are in the shampoo bowl. The root application can be a tap (very little) or a longer drag (1-4 inches) depending on how much depth or how big you want your transition to be. The color is left on for 5-25 minutes depending on brand and opacity that you are looking for. I can link another video of how I do a root melt if you are interested?
Let me know if you have any other questions.
I'm new to color and not sure how to pick a color the salon uses matrix. Help
Hey! If the salon you work at uses Matrix, I would reach out their distributor to get information on their color line and the educational color classes they offer. There are so many color lines that offer free and/or online education to help you learn their color line. Being an assistant for at least a year minimum with a stylist who is well trained in color services is the best advise I can give. In cosmo school you only lean so much. Having hands on experience is key!
If you are not a stylist and are just looking to box dye your hair, I would advise against that. Sometimes at home box dye can really damage and over process your hair if its not applied and used correctly. If you have access to a whole sale supplier to buy the color, most of them will carry the swatch color rings of each color line. You can always have someone assist you in the store who has knowledge in the color line you are interested in. The sales rep can help with color matching/recommendations. And most color lines with have package options to sell to a stylist. When using a sale rep for a specific color line they can help guide and recommend their "top used/most used" colors within their line if you are just starting to build up your color inventory. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching.
Got any questions? I am all about trying to help other hairstylists. Fire away!
