Love you guys . I'm from Atlanta , Georgia . A good friend and I were thankful enough to see you at the OMNI Downtown in the 80's . Awsome show ! ! ! ! You still ROCK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
man, the message in this song changed my life. I've heard this song on the radio many times, but now i finally see the piece of good advice in the lyrics.
I bought this album on cassette tape back in 1987,I listened to Wild-Eyed Southern Boys a lot and seen them in concert at the municipal auditorium in Nashville Tennessee in 87' and Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet was the opener for .38 Special had so much fun at the concert, seats were off to the right of the stage and .38 Special had a spectacular light show and just an outstanding performance, very good concert....
Me and my dad would listen to this when I was just a kid, good old times with my pops. Im so glad he passed Rock n Roll down to me. Showed me everything he knew back from the 60's and 70's. Now I can name every band/song from that time frame. Also I apologize for my generation. But don't be mad at them for new music(or what they think is). Just know ROCK WILL NEVER DIE!
Terd, you're makin me laugh bro! The 80's were positively the best. It seemed that I could do no wrong during the 80's! Everything broke my way, didn't realize it wouldn't always be that way! I love that some youngins are getting turned on to all of the GREAT music that yesterday offers. Thanks LyricFreeks21!
My boyfriend and I listened to this last night. We were singing along to the music in the front of his truck and after the song was over, he looked at me and for the first time he said... "I love you ya know that". Good things can happen when you listen to this song:D
Wish I had paid closer attention to this song when I was with my high school sweetheart. This song was the story of our relationship and what caused it to end. At least I learned from my mistakes. A good song with a good message. Don't be so blinded by love that you overlook trust and persons space.
I love this song, I love to jam out to this song now in 2013 & especially when I use to go skating back in the 80's, I love you guy's may God Bless your band forever DJ Davie D. of Philadelphia yaaaa boy
I'd heard this song on the radio a few times but never bothered really listening to the lyrics. When I finally paid attention to it, I couldn't believe it! It perfectly describes the way I feel a relationship ought to be handled, because somehow I've become paranoid about stifling a girlfriend and, well, clinging so tightly that I lose control. Now, all I need is to get over this five-year (and counting) period of alone-ness I've been going through and find someone to hold on loosely to...
IM STEADY GOING OUT OF CONTROL....IT FEELS GOOD....JUST DO IT....IM HOLDING, AND STANDING ...FEELS GOOD TO KNOW E HAVE EACH OTHER, US, WE ARE BETTER AND OPEN ....TO SEE WHAT ITS BUILT ON....ITS AMAZING
Some people may not know this, but this was originally written for the band survivor, and later .38 special got a hold of it and the write process began. The rest is history!
The timing is a bit off on some of the words and some are misspelt.I'm not sure but I think some of the words may be wrong.I remember being a little kid watching MTV and singing to the video.I'm trying to sing it now and I do better in a few spots where I just sing what I think it is wrong or not.Anyway glad this is here and this music is now classic rock to a whole generation of young adults and we need to bring it to them!Rock on 4ever baybay!
I did enjoy it and had a great time singing to it but whoever uploaded it asked viewers to say what they think and/or critique it so that's what I did from the standpoint of someone who is trying to learn the song to potentially play it in a band.Of course I would prefer a version where the timing of the words comes in at the time I should start singing them and of course I want to know that I'm singing the right words but anyone who likes the same music as me always gets a "like".By commenting like I did I'm just doing what the uploader asked me to.Thanks
@WickedChaos911 - Celebrate your victory! It took me 3 marriages before I finally figured 'it' out and today, like you, I finally 'heard' this song correctly and am celebrating 'it' with the love of my LIFE!
Summer of 1981, Columbus, Ohio. You and your buddies are 17, cruising down North High Street in "Cowboy Dave's" '69 Olds Cutlass, with a load of contraband Gennessee Cream Ale in the trunk and the secondhand Spark-O-Matic 8 track AM/FM stereo in the dashboard tuned to Q-FM-96. This song comes on. It's not your favorite--you're more into Grand Funk, Ted Nugent, Skynyrd--but it seems RIGHT at that particular moment.
Why couldnt the 80s go on forever? The music was good. The video games were good. Gas was cheap. Weed was cheap. Women still had bushes. God I miss the 80s.
i remember 10 years ago i was 5 i herd this song on the radio will i was with my dad i was blown away, i fell in love with rock this is literly my favrite song in the world not even CCR can beat this song dubbie brothers james gang steve miller band rolling stones forener linered skinerd ozzy living colur kansas no one iron maden bon jovie no one can beat this song even acdc guns and roses def leperd not even them
Okay, the story of my epic quest to find this song. I was watching Without a Paddle, but I didnt know that was what the movie was called. so I heard this song come on and I searched "do do do do dooo do" in google trying to find it, failed miserably. then I heard the line in the movie "I dont have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you." I searched that in google, found hte name of the movie, searched for the movies soundtrack, and picked the right song first try. So. Worth. It.
I know it's all over the internet that the lyrics are "my mind goes back to a girl I LEFT some/long years ago." But it doesn't make sense to me. I think it's "MET long years ago". If she was the one giving him the advice to "Hold on Loosely" then it would be more likely her leaving him, otherwise he looks pretty bad for leaving her and then why would he be passing on the advice now if he didn't agree with it to being with and left his girl over it. It seems more likely that a girl he MET advised him to hold on loosely to his girl or he'd lose her and now he's passing on that good advice to others.
ALPHA AND OMEGA, WE HAVE THE IN BETWEEN, ITS THE LOVE WE SHARE THAT MAKES YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH THE HOLY GHOST, WE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH DARYL AND KORY.....
My amazing boyfriend was driving me home from our first real date, and this song came on the radio. He sang every word to me. Then he said: "Baby, this song makes sense if you think about it. If you have a death grip on your lover, and stay up their butt all the time, you'll start to get annoyed with them, and argue a lot more. You gotta let them have their life, while you live yours. But I do love seeing you more than anything." It was so cute(:
""It's so damn easy When your feelings are such: To overprotect her, To love her too much. And my mind goes back to a girl I left Long years ago who told me: Just hold on loosely, But don't let go. If you cling too tightly, You're gonna lose control. Your baby needs someone to believe in, And a whole lot of space to breathe in."
Give her some space bro, she's choking, sufercating under the love your given there is no reason to call her that many times The farther you are away, the closer she will come. just don't be an idiot and that will work 4sure
I love my parents. They got me into listening to all the older bands when i was about 6 (AC/DC, Jimi, Sabbath, .38 Special, Crue, Ratt,ect....) I wish all parents would do that so that kids would actually enjoy the music for the music not just guys singing about fucking a girl or snorting a line or some shit like that
Not sure if you're trying to joke or if you're serious. But if you are serious then I'll tell you. The song is about giving women space, you can't cling to tight to a relationship. Men can sometimes be overprotective over their women. And that will lead to a break up due to it driving the women insane. I guess that's mainly what it's about, to love each other in a relationship but not "to much"
Believe it or not, that's actually what I thought it was about the first time I hear it, lol. Granted, I couldn't really hear it well as it was playing in a Walmart.
Man, I had a very complicated issue with my most recent relationship that ended recently. She was always on the phone all day, everyday with almost 10 different men, and on top of that, she was talking to her ex-husband (this guy abused her for 27 years while they were married) all day every day as well. I mean literally, this is no exaggeration. It turned me into a stressed out guy. In the beginning, she did state that she had a lot of guy friends. But, talking to all these guys everyday, and for most of the day? Hell no! I broke it off New Year's eve, and told her to move out. The last straw was when she had her ex-husband show up in my parking lot, to pick her up. Was I wrong? LOL
Not wrong!!! Smart move to kick her to the curb!! Going back to an abusive X shows theirs not much of a brain their...good for you for sticking to your guns.
Love you guys . I'm from Atlanta , Georgia . A good friend and I were thankful enough to see you at the OMNI Downtown in the 80's . Awsome show ! ! ! ! You still ROCK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Damn this brings me back! Summer of 84 just drivin around in my 70 SS Nova music just cranked to 11!!! what a great time in life!
man, the message in this song changed my life. I've heard this song on the radio many times, but now i finally see the piece of good advice in the lyrics.
This and those artists you just mentioned are what you call music! Rock on.
LOVE LOVE LOVE, this song and 38 Special!!!!!

Awesome song - when I was younger, I drove my '78 Trans Am and would totally sing my heart out to it.
My boyfriend and I listened to this last night. We were singing along to the music in the front of his truck and after the song was over, he looked at me and for the first time he said... "I love you ya know that". Good things can happen when you listen to this song:D
Phantasmic Southern Band. Good old 80ths till now.
I'm 17 and LOVE this song!! It's so true...
One of the few songs that I find physically impossible not to sing along to when it comes on the radio.
Wish I had paid closer attention to this song when I was with my high school sweetheart. This song was the story of our relationship and what caused it to end. At least I learned from my mistakes. A good song with a good message. Don't be so blinded by love that you overlook trust and persons space.
I will never let go of this band!
I love this song, I love to jam out to this song now in 2013 & especially when I use to go skating back in the 80's, I love you guy's may God Bless your band forever DJ Davie D. of Philadelphia yaaaa boy

""It's so damn easy
When your feelings are such:
To overprotect her,
To love her too much.
And my mind goes back to a girl I left
Long years ago who told me:
Just hold on loosely,
But don't let go.
If you cling too tightly,
You're gonna lose control.
Your baby needs someone to believe in,
And a whole lot of space to breathe in."
True.
Best comment ever.
