One thing that I have learned is that there really isn’t such a thing as a skin tone there is skin and how the light makes the skin look different lights and surroundings will make skin look different

I'm not sure if you're using watercolors because while you do use the same colors to make skin tones in all mediums the technique is slightly different for each material. If you are using water colors there is this amazing video by finelinernerd on youtube where he also delves into the color theory behind skin tones. It's really good and helped me so much to improve skin shades.
