    No low speed is okay if you can short stroke the fish. American angling legend, Martia Bierman was the best. Her record was 15 minutes for an 800 lb bluefin. A good black magic harness and gimbal belt is needed obviously

      I use low gear as often as I can. Go with heavy gear 25-35lb of drag and man handle the fish.

    Would a fathom 25 and fathom 15xnld2 cover most flylining requirements for tuna? I want to have my fathom 25 capable of 50-100 pounders on fly and the 15 for 20-60 grade. What lines would you recommend for both of these I currently have 50 on the 25 and 40 on the 15. I was wondering if maybe 65 on the 25 would be optimal? Thanks man love the channel.

      You could probably could keep the 50 pound braid on the 25 with a 40lb leader for heavy flyline and with the 15 do 40-50lb braid and a 30-25lb leader

  • @dojo1249
    @dojo1249 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Over here on the East Coast they won't let you on the boat with nothing less than 65 lb line but preferably 80 lb so it is braid backing than 100 yards of mono mandatory. No spinner reels aloud for tuna only for squid and Mahi. Ps for is it is 1 bluefin tuna per boat and not person so we don't really go out for bluefin.

    would a penn fathom 40 with 80lb briad full and a phenix axis 720 x2h would be ok for the nite time jigging?

    • @deeskee30
      @deeskee30 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah should be ok, heavier setup preferred but I’ve seen 160 lb fish caught on 80 lb line and a single speed reel

    • @FishTheLegend
      @FishTheLegend ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We agree! It’s on the lighter side, but you can get away with it!

    How do these parabolic slow pitch rods follow the fish on the rails?

    • @FishTheLegend
      @FishTheLegend ปีที่แล้ว

      The hardest part of those rods is that they’re pretty short and it can be hard to keep the fish out from underneath the boat. Especially near props and rutters, you have a higher chance of having something bad happen.

    Gezzus Christ in a Handbasket! I'm 53 now and have been fishing So.Cal cattle boats since the 80s. Loooooong before braid and reels with 40lb drag the size of your fist. Anyway, I haven't fished in about 5-6 years for health issues, but now I see it's a totally acceptable and actually promoted to just lay your rod on the rail? Geezus. If any of you youngsters knew how "cringy" that was back in the day. 1st, it was a sign of weakness and disrespect to the fish since we have all the gear, and we're the, you know, Apex predator of earth. #2, it was very disrespectful to the boat owner (private especially). 3# it was a pride thing, you don't hand off your fish, and you don't "rail" the fish, or the fish won. EVERYTHING in life has become "nerfed" as they say. Some of you Millennials might get triggered, that's good...just show you understand how inferior you are. LOL.

    • @waynehearst317
      @waynehearst317 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ps., this new "rule" was actually created by the big cattle boats to land more fish, and get more people on the boats who normally would know they're not going to pay premium $$ to BFT fish because they physically can't handle it. THATS OKAY! It's okay to not be strong enough to do something! This is exactly why so many people die on Everest... it's all designed around the $$.
