GMKtec NucBox5 Review (Mini-PC)

I would suggest a few things:
1) I would go back to the processor and its heat sink, clean it with a cotton ball dipped lightly in rubbing alcohol. After that, add a pea sized amount of Artic Silver 5 and secure the heat sink firmly.
2) the hard drive and wifi are both upgradable. I would upgrade both. I will add what I am upgrading with and why:
SSD: Corsair MP600 Mini 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 2 SSD - M.2 2230
This ssd is nvme which will perform much faster than the ssd provided with stock.
WIFI/BLUETOOTH: WiFi 6E Wireless Card Intel AX210 NGW Bluetooth 5.3 Tri-Band 5400Mbps Network Adapter
This brings you up to WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Again it improves compatibility and improves connectivity.
Both upgrades will bring you current and improved performance. The arctic silver will also help with temps and speed.
Overall the cost is about $100 (copy and paste the items into Amazon and they’ll pop up) and if you decide to do the upgrades you can add video content to your channel and learn something at the same time. Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions!
that's the N5105 version, got 2 of those running LMint via USB.... but now am getting the N97 version
I saw that you were looking for the gpu. Its actually integrated into the cpu itself. Kinda cool
Really great video. I have 2 questions for you. I would be happy if you answer them. I will buy this computer just to play Minecraft. But the model I will buy is N97 processor. How many fps do you think this Minecraft will get in Java? Another question is, does the fan turn on while playing Minecraft? If it does, is the fan noise annoying? Because I am really tired of the fan noise. Thanks in advance.
If you run Java you can average 59 - 60 fps from my experience. If you run clients like Feather and fps performance mods like Sodium you can get upwards of 90 fps (also your monitor refresh rate vastly affects performance. If you have a 60Hz refresh rate then you will most likely be capped at 60 fps). And you asked about the fan, I never noticed any noise what so ever while running this little computer until I took it apart for this video and now it has noticeable noise, however it’s not super loud it’s actually still really quiet.
@ryderhutchings Thank you very much for your answer.
GMK have a new bios update, it can run 1200mhz in the new update, try it.
Gotta eq out the low frequencies in your mic audio.
Noted! Thank you for your feedback!
Hi you should run linux on it. Thks for the video
I have run Ubuntu, Kali Linux, and Mint on it in the past :)
Just got one a month ago only been in use for about 8 days. Tonight the gmk nukebox shout off.
It will not power up. Major disappointment.. I have no idea why. Has anyone experienced this? I'm shipping it back to Amazon in the morning.
Haven’t had that happen to mine I got over a year ago. However, I’ve pretty much exclusively use it to boot off the sd card slot as a retro gaming machine. You may have gotten a dud, unfortunately.
so not a yr later, since you have only had it 9 mos.....makes me wonder what else you are less than truthful about.
