    Working at a movie theater myself. Fun fact: If you were to make the popcorn to little to no oil the flavored salt (we use the exact same brand as shown in this video) flavacol actually will leave the popcorn white despite the bright yellow-orange color.
    Popcorn/concessions are expensive in general because that is what pays for the theater to function and is used to pay the employees. The movie tickets you buy all proceedings go to the production that made the film. Not the theater.

    • @calvinmusquez9162

      Aikano9 basically yeah. Kettle corn is popped typically in a cast iron kettle and has sugar added after the fact while the popcorn is still hot which creates a kind of crunchy glaze.

    Cinemark uses Flavacol salt
    Bulk bag pop weaver
    And oil to coat the seeds. One cup seed bout one and a half tablespoon salt for theatre popcorn by Cinemark
    -former employee
    For kettle corn Cinemark recipe is two cups seed pop weaver. One cup granulated sugar one cup brown sugar.
    Make sure to spray nonstick spray at whatever is being used to make the popcorn as it gets very sticky. In smaller batches might be different ratio Of seed and sugars

  • @Alpha8713
    @Alpha8713 5 ปีที่แล้ว +75

    Not bad. Glazed popcorn should use a different type of kernels, though. You want "mushroom" corn for glazed popcorn and "butterfly" corn for butter popcorn. Mushroom corn is sturdier, while butterfly corn is tastier and has a higher expansion ratio.
    Weaver makes the best popcorn, and is used by most concession operators.

    • @tjw2469
      @tjw2469 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mushroom shaped popcorn most commonly used for galzed baged popcorn because it is easier to coat sugar after poped
      for fresh made popcorn, it doesn't matter because poping and coating happened at the same time during the process

    If you want a cheaper, and (for lack of a better words) healthier alternative to Flavacol, you can use a little bit of turmeric while cooking the popcorn (not too much as the flavor is strong and it could stain not only your clothes and skin but your pot as well) and you get the color and buttery taste of the movie theater version.

    As someone who worked at a movie theater: you’ve got the recipe pretty much perfect. The only differences being that the theater I worked at portioned everything for a larger kettle, as well as using canola popping oil instead of the coconut.
    Also, a side note: the Flavicol is quite potent, be careful about how much you use - too much or too little will easily ruin a whole batch of popcorn.

  • @joebarniak

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 ปีที่แล้ว

      not really, the key is the flavacol. lots of theaters use canola oil, i personally use peanut oil. coconut oil will keep the popped corn crispier for longer, and some sketchy operations actually bag up popped corn and serve it to customers days later.

    I've been making this kind of popcorn for a couple years now and yes it tastes like movie popcorn, I bought the stir crazy popcorn machine, works great! I bought the 32 oz coconut oil with beta carotene, then I had to buy another, and Orville Redenbacher's does work the best for popcorn. If you eat a lot of popcorn, you should make it this way because it's the best way to have popcorn, it tastes closest movie popcorn that I've ever had.

  • @stupidgenius107
    @stupidgenius107 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My parents have made popcorn like this for years, using a blend of coconut and olive oil, and a similar popcorn salt (I've now switched to using just sea salt). Tastes way better than movie theater popcorn, in my opinion. They buy the kernels in a 50 pound bag for about $20, and that lasts about a year, making very large batches (enough to fill several huge mixing bowls) several nights a week. Microwave popcorn can go pop itself.

      Yeah, this ratio is terrible. 1 Tsp should NEVER be used with just 1/4 a cup of popcorn. I often use anywhere from 3/4 Tsp to 1/2 Tsp in my Whirley Pop, and that's with 1/2 a cup of kernels! Even 1/2 Tsp can be fairly potent.

    My perfect popcorn container is a clear plastic, infinitely *reusable* "Gourmet Storage Container" with lid, from the 99Cents Only store. It holds 96.8 fluid ounces, which is a perfect size for a nice batch of stove-popped popcorn, and which is nearly double the amount of the average microwave batch. Also, I prefer white popcorn because its husks are a lot smaller and more tender than yellow popcorn husks. Any oil with a high temperature tolerance will work for popping. I also pour homemade ghee over the freshly popped corn. "Ghee" is lightly toasted oil from natural butter, minus the protein solids. TH-cam has several "how-to" videos for making your own ghee, which has many delicious uses.
