I love the power and simplicity of building melodies around the chord tones. I can see knowing where the triads are all over the neck is a prerequisite. But I also appreciate you telling us we don't need to be able to do this without working on it. Seeing finished products from many TH-cam takes gives us the impression we aren't good musicians unless we can do everything in one take. It's freeing to know everyone has to work out things most of the time.
Let's be honest David Gilmore's leads are not complex But that is what makes them magical! The fact he is able to say that much with such a basic outline/ Structure is incredible🤘 I've been a fan of his Playing since the 70's.
Great stuff Jeff. I always get something from your videos. Your teaching style is one that makes it easy to understand what you are trying to convey. Thank you sir. Off to practice!
I know all about arthritis, you are going to laugh but I have decided to learn guitar as a form of therapy, as I just had my right hand operated, left is next as soon as I'm convinced the operation worked. I feel for you being an accomplished guitarist, unfortunatelly age and genetics got the best of us, well you more than me, except mine is really bad. Keep up the spirit and hang in there, and thank you for sharing your craft.
aw man... you sucked me in on this one! had to go and buy the course :) it was a no brainer, such a good deal you upsold me on Pentatonic Creativity also.. you bastard 😂 (plus you always blow me away with your playing)
i bought the course and i luv it!!!,,,,, the only downside is I find myself lying in bed at night with these infectious melodies in my head , when i should be sleeping!!
he is a player I should have got into bud, but the people who were into them were all, smoking copious amounts of a certain herb? and that put me off! yes in my early 30's I did too! but he plays intelligently, emphasising those notes as you explained, playing the ones that go within the chord progression, I would say what he does, he does better than anyone is he makes it flow, as well as being expressive, it's intuitive! hitting those notes! some of those bends! WOW! He can be in your face, to subtle in a bar or 2! THANKS JEFF, AND THANK YOU DAVID GILMOUR, AND PINK FLOYD!
I loved your explenation of "I Play By Feel" and then using the myth that all people think Jimi played "By Feel" and didn't know anything about music. Just because you can't read and write music at that level, doesn't mean you are not using musical concepts My friend has been preaching this crap on me for years. I have a degree in music, I know enough theory that I don't have to use it. My friend is so stubborn, he always says I play by feel, but its horrible and I can't follow him, I can't phrase, I am constantly playing defensively and you can't improv over it because he is literraly making it up. Thats what he says, I just make it up, So I need telepathy to play with him. I never had to use my brain so much while trying to make something sound musical . I tell him, I don't by feel, I play with feel, but I need something to feel first, wether it is a pocket, a groove, an idea, something to improv over. Improvising is not making something up, It is using ingredients to elaborate with. Anyway, thanks for your validation that I am not crazy.
Man, just looked up your tour dates, but it's in Graz (~600km away) and at the date of Guitar Summit in Mannheim. Any chance to get you to come to the western part of Austria or somewhere around the Lake Constance? Thanks for the great lesson! Cheers, Martin
@@JeffMcErlain I was not asking for this tour specifically, but maybe for next year or so to keep in mind. I would love to see you live, and we have a nice little stage in my hometown (Altes Kino Rankweil) where Aynsley Lister also has been already, as well as Ally Venable for example. (both were great) Aynsley is coming back, so it must have been not all too bad for him as well. ;) Cheers, Martin
@@LMGuitarCorner I’d like to. It’s so difficult getting there (anywhere) and make it financially feasible. I’m working on trying to expand things in EU but it’s really difficult!
You talked about playing slide, but not in regard to Gilmour's playing. I wonder how much his solos are informed by his slide playing. The more I listen to Gilmour, the more I think I hear it.
Hey Jeff, Great stream. I'd like to buy the course, in fact many of your courses. Before I do, just wondering if there's a way of buying them as a full download vs an online course. I'm in the desert in the middle of Australia these days (long story) and internet access is scant at best for me personally. Also, if I ever get back to NYC I'd love to pop in and visit or see one of your gigs and say hi to you some time. Anyway, just thought I'd ask about the download. You're a great teacher.

Thank you. I am an older beginner and always learn something. Lots of things zoom me but you are very good at communicating and playing!
Love this live. Lots of guys could build a video like this, but only you can do this level of teaching live.
Thanks my friend!!

It’s funny when you listen to the one of the solos in Dogs with all the chromatic stuff I always think “where did that come from?”
Fantastic lesson. Such a good reminder. And look forward to TPS!
Thank you ! Me too!

“I don’t play by feel, I play WITH feel”. That’s perfect!! I may have to borrow that!
Do you have any one price deals to acess all of your lessons?
