No, she never was. Nor were Mahidervan and Sulieman ever married.
She was a concubine/slave and mother of Mustafa. Sueliman never slept with Mahideveran after he fell in love with Hurrem. Which was soon after both arrived at the palace at almost the same time. They were together from 1520 to Hurrem's death in 1558. Whereas, Sulieman and Queen Hurrem were (lawfully) legally married and had a nuclear family together. Suielman never had another child, during his reign, with anyone but his Wife. And he did disband the haram, because he wasn’t interested in being with anyone, but his great love, Hurrem.

Who cares if Mahidevran was just a concubine, she was still ten times more worthy than that cheap haseki.
Mahidevran was more compassionate, charitable, popular and much more beautiful than hurrem. She was also just as intelligent as hurrem, and more politically savvy.
The people in the empire loved her so much and wanted her to be the next valide, while nobody wanted hurrem.
Her son was more popular than anyone else in the royal family, and hurrem's sons were worthless compared to Mustafa
Suleiman loved hurrem more, but he was just one person. The WHOLE empire loved mahidevran more than hurrem, and they even loved mustafa more than Suleiman.
Mahidevran never loved Suleiman and NEVER wanted his love. She was never jealous of hurrem in real life, their rivalry was about who's son would succeed.
She was too good and beautiful for Suleiman. Suleiman was not good looking at all, unlike his father selim.
She was not a queen in title but she was more worthy than hurrem in every way.

Loyalty, clever, strong, she wasn't evil and stupid like the TV show makes her appear. All that she had was her Mustafa. The yeniçeri corpus respected Mahidevran sultan. After Mustafa's death she lived poor life and when the son of Hürrem became sultan 2.Selim, he rehabed her.
