1. GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Phu An parish in Cat Thanh town, Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province; about 12 km from Bui Chu Bishopric. The East borders on Truc Binh commune; the West borders on Ninh Co river; to the south by Ninh Co river; the North borders Huong Cat village.
2. HISTORY OF FORMATION
Phu An shares a strip of land with Trung Lao and An Lang. At the end of the 16th century, people from Hai Duong, Pho Hien, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh and the surrounding areas came to Phu An to establish hamlets. Around 1730, the faithful received the Good News from the Dominican Fathers, in 1786 thanks to their help, the faithful contributed to building a church, and the Phu An parish was established, belonging to the Central parish. In 1916, Phu An was an odd family with the fourth largest number of parishioners out of 27 families in Trung Lao parish. In 1938, in order to meet the needs of serving the increasing number of faithful, Bishop Dominic Ho Ngoc Can took the surname Quan Lac to establish a new parish named Phu An parish.
Phu An parish consists of two parishes:
1. Quan Lac Church, 1916
2. Phu Cuong Church, 1957.
The initial number of parishioners was 500 people, in 1999 there were 2, 970 people, now there are 3, 952 in the name of (2014). The parish accepted Saint Paul back as patron.
3. PARENTS SERVE THE Parish
While still a parish, Phu An was cared for by Dominican missionaries; When it became a parish, there were: Father Michael Nha (1938), Father Joseph Suy (1943), Father Dominic Thu (1945), Father Peter Lai Van Thu (1951), Father Peter Pham Van Cu (1960-1986), Father Joseph Le Ngoc Hoan (1986-1996), Father Dominic Pham Kim Tien (1996-2006), Father John B Vu Tien Khang (2006-2010), Father Dominic Dinh Xuan Canh, 2010 to present.
4. Parish STRUCTURE & TYPICAL WORKS
Right from the early days of its establishment, with the help of the Dominican Missionaries, a small chapel was formed for living and worshiping. In 1930, the parish built a large church with an area of 60m long, 16m wide, 18m high.
Over the years due to the destruction of the war, the church was degraded, making it impossible for the community to attend the liturgy. From the difficult and restless circumstances of the administrators, as well as the increasing number of parishioners in the parish, the new church was started construction in 2007, with an area: length 71.2m, 23.8 m wide, 50.7 m high, under construction. In addition, the parish also has: Pastoral Center, Our Lady's Radio in the lake at the end of the church.
