Hi Toine- thank you so much for this video ! My grandmother would always makes these for us in Holland, I always thought they were so complicated. I am so happy to see it is relatively easy and excited to try. Will be making some for Christmas, I will hashtag you on my Instagram. Thanks Toine!!
You can get puff pastry at most grocery stores. The brand we used for this video is Dufour, but we have had great luck with Trader Joe’s Puff Pastry as well.
Toine, have you tried using Castor sugar (basterdsuiker)? It is finely ground white sugar, it melts a lot faster than regular sugar. It should give you the glossy finish. If you have a hard time finding it, you could simply use a blender or food processor and pulse regular sugar till it's finely ground.
Bake the krakelingen just shy of done, than pull them out, heat the oven to 230-250°c and put the still hot krakelingen back in the oven for 3 minutes. This will caramelize the sugar into the shiny layer. Edit: putting them under the grill also works, you just need some fast high heat to caramelize but not burn the krakelingen.
@@ToinesKitchen you are welcome, I used to make krakelingen all the time when I was young. As you don't actually need to know how to cook/bake for them and almost everyone likes them. Also, even though I already know how to make a lot of these recipes, I still thoroughly enjoy your videos!
Totally forgot about these! Gonna be trying to get my wife to make these soon 🤣
Good project to do together :)

I have used witte basterdsuiker before, and it didn’t behave quite as nice as I wanted.
Nifty
Thanks
