Found the issue it is not a radio problem had someone bring me a 09 traverse with only tweeters working and one speaker working. The first thing I thought was replace all the factory speakers which fixed the problem for about 8 months. He called me again and time he said all the speakers were out and only the tweeters were working. I pulled one speaker out and tested it with a 9 volt battery it worked so then I checked the wires and they literally fell apart in my hands. I used the supplied wire that came with the aftermarket speakers in which I soldered and used heat shrink when I orginally installed the new speakers. I cut and stripped the factory wires and found the wires were green and corroded and had oxidation from moisture. I found the same issue in every door. I cut the factory wire back as far as I could and soldered in 18 gauge wire from Walmart and everything worked fine again.

Corroded wires wouldn't make every speaker in the car go bad at the same time and then come back gain and then go out again with what seems like cold temperatures.

2008 chev Silverado.... exact same symptoms! Tweeters only. Radio Seemed to work in really hot summer days. I was skeptical that it was my speakers cause how and why would 4 speakers fail at the same time? Head units are expensive so I took a chance and replaced the 2 front door speakers and YES that fixed my problem. Look up GM speaker problems you will find a lot of posts about this VERY COMMON GM speaker issue. Also a lot of videos showing step by step instructions for various GM models on how to replace the speakers, what size speakers, special connector adaptors, special brackets, and tools you will need to swap the speakers out. I swapped mine out for around $130 and that was a package speaker kit for GM Silverado speaker replacement that had everything included that’s needed to swap them out including 2 Nice “Kicker” brand speakers. It took about an hour to change out 2 speakers and I’m no mechanic... I just followed the TH-cam videos step by step. Not saying this will solve your problem but it solved mine! Good Luck!

Went through all the steps to remove water from the door connector, check radio connections, etc. Last resort: REPLACED SPEAKERS. Bottom line: GM speakers are JUNK!!! Checked old speakers, and the voice coils were seized up, speakers don't work with this condition. Get 4 new speakers and replace ALL of them, EVEN IF THEY WORK NOW, because it is not a matter of IF they will fail, it's WHEN.

It's just a pleasant surprise whenever that happens. Thing is, I had a 1999 Malibu with almost the identical problem. I believe it's a Chevy issue.

Appears to be a chronic problem... exact same thing happening in my 2008 Silverado Crew Cab (non-Bose). Hard to believe the weather/temp would make a difference, but it does. My truck is in the garage and out of the elements most of the time and it doesn't seem to matter. I'll try replacing the speakers. I hope that does the trick because it is costly to replace the car stereo due to the complicated wiring harness which is tied into lots of other electronic components. Thanks for the post - very helpful.

This is the third gm product I have had this issue with even with an 09 traverse. The problem is the radio had a voltage spike and literally blew the coils in every speaker except for the two tweeters. Yes it will work when it gets super hot outside. Its hard to believe but replacing the speakers actually will fix this issues. Also the traverse's do have a problem with moister in the door connectors

Some radios have a fuse on the back of the radio additional to the fuse box. Or wires on the harness are burning out. Also try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting (keep in mind this will delete the saved radio stations and seat memory, if you have any)

@@panchoflores7709 That was some time back. I still have the H3 and its for sale. I ended up taking it to a local shop "Advance Custom Sounds". When they took the passenger side door panels he called me and told me there was mud all the way up just below the door handles only on the passenger side. That means the previous first owner may have taken it mudding and when the speakers were exposed to mud and water it caused that problem. They changed speakers and radio system with an aftermarket better sound system. It sounds great. I am not a mechanic, but from what I learned you probably have a short problem with a ground wire. Does your battery drain if you leave it parked for a few days? If yes, that means you have a short and the ground is draining your battery. Hope this helps.

Just to summarize what is going on here for anyone with intermittent speaker issues....if they work sometimes and not others it's most likely a connection issue, something is stopping the audio from getting to your speakers, could be moisture, or could be loose connection or both, just check your wires for breaks etc....if your speakers went out and never work it's prob you speakers but I would still Check your wires cause they could have just completely lost their connections. Otherwise it's new speakers for you

  • @fa7807
    @fa7807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lots of comments saying it's the speakers. Kinda right, kinda wrong. Speakers could be shot but new speakers will likely be shorted/ruined by the same cause, I've heard about this happening to folks every couple years. Also, there is an audio mux under the steering column that shorts out and goes bad too, might be same cause. My audio mux went bad and I found water IN the connectors to the back doors, seems like the issues are connected!

My 2009 Saturn Outlook (looks like the Acacia) has the exact same problem. Local dealer suggested it could be something with the OnStar module that’s located above the rear driver side wheel-well panel. I guess it controls the output of the speakers in order to turn off the other speakers when you begin using OnStar that way only the front left speaker works. Still trying to figure it out the issue myself, most inconvenient crap ever! Also, mine does the same thing in regards to the weather, if it’s hot and dry it works but if it’s cold and humid, it goes out again.

Problem is not in the radio. Wire harness to speaker has a junction box that is between the door and the body of the car. Press the tab while pulling down lever to release. Typically this area is a high moisture zone and why Chevy put a connection box there is just wrong. Bad design! Plus the window, locks, and mirror switches in these cars go bad. More bad design (cheap little cut backs). The way I fixed was take apart as much as you can and with electronic spray cleaner clean it all up. You can also buy new switches or the full wire harness but I would not go back to the dealer, $$$ Buy aftermarket.

Piece of shit Bose radio, had four different cars with Bose and everyone had problems of some kind. You would think as much as they cost it would work better and longer but not Bose. Send it to Bose and they'll fix it for $156.00 regardless how simply, flat rate. Your screwed again by a POS radio. My select buttons just stopped working, well just (2) I guess I shouldn't complain to much it was only 2 buttons. Oh yea, mine won't play until it warms up also.

If one speaker goes out.... they all go out. There is one connector (a cluster ) that sometimes comes loose.... so if your sound is intermittent... that could be it. Also, if any moisture gets in one of the speakers... it can potentially disable all the speakers (except your tweeters)..... If your truck sits outside a lot... then it could be a simple moisture problem.

Steve Bodiford do you know where the one connection is? I have 2008 Chevy Silverado 2 door. The back speakers work fine but the front two come in maybe 2% of the time. And sometimes if I hit a bump the back cuts in and out. I don’t know how yo fix it

I have similar problem in hhr 2010 ,there is not problem with internal radio. A lot time works and some time works only the tweeters. I imagine is a connector, when the auto is on is only occasionally Its not the connector that is not connect directly to the radio.

I believe you because mine has water in only the rear speaker connectors after any rain or car washes, but what do you do about the water in your speaker connectors? I'm looking for an after market fix before throwing down cash for new speakers. Even if they are better speakers, the water will eventually trash them too if I don't fix water issues. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a 2011 hhr same kind of radio setup was working fine when I got 4 new tires over a year and a half ago from sears tire center off of mercury boulevard in Hampton Va, . And when I went to pick the car up 4 hrs later for them to put 4 tires on the car. I noticed that they had my hood up. I had problems getting my other speakers to work the passenger side door speaker went out then came on then the driver side then the passenger side rear would go out then come back one then the drivers side back door would then they all went out and only tweeters would work my right rear forewarning pressure light would come on . I checked my info on the dash it read that the tire was flat no air in it. And it had air in that tire then my service passenger side airbag warning light came on I had to take the car in there they only fixed the problem temporarily the tire problem went away for awhile then the service airbagsoon light keeps conning on from time to time then going back out. But now sometimes I have sound out of all the speakers and a lot of the time just the tweeters,. I don't listen to the radio no more in the car . I gave up trying to get it fixed because it would cost a lot just to see what is wrong with it looked on line that too is no help. I'm still paying monthly payments for the car and when I get the payments down I'm. Getting something else I had to put new shocked in rear it needs strutted I'm only second owner was lied to told it wasn't hit when I bought it from car lot but when I take it to car wash and the sprayer hits the driver side door u can feel the pressure from the sprayer sitting inside the drivers side seat with the door closed and window up. Through the plastic panel on the drivers side door. Freaky. First car I had that u could feel outside water pressure hitting the door but not on passenger side. Wierd.

I’m having the same problem with music only coming out of the top 2 tweeter speakers but I noticed when mine stopped working my floorboard started filling up with water and my seals on my passenger side door was leaking and it let water run down into the door the speaker wasn’t wet but that’s when mine started and like if I hit a bump in the road really hard or something the the musical all of a sudden just kick on and all speakers will work so it’s not like all four of my speakers are blown they’ll sometimes cut on and play music thumping like bass bumping so I know they’re not blown but then just soon as I cut the car off and go in somewhere and come back and cut the car on the back to be in just the tweeter speakers so it’s not my speakers can someone give me any kind of help?
