As a mexican american, i found this video very informative, im planning a trip to my home state of iguala, guerrero,mx , its a shame to hear about all the troubles, but it also lights a fire on my ass to improve my native land
VICE News' Mexico City Bureau Chief Daniel Hernandez joined On The Line to discuss drug lord El Chapo’s prison break, as well as the latest news from Mexico and Latin America. Watch “Inside El Chapo’s Escape Tunnel” - bit.ly/1IsjiXW
There are certain things that you guys shouldn't talk about and one being him I don't know why anybody would put their business out there like that and put their life in jeopardy keep us out your mouth
Nector, reporting world topics is the most important job any reporter could provide. If it weren't for their selflessness, investigating what is being hidden, governments of the world wouldn't be pressured to make important changes. News investigators, have been some of the most influential people when it comes to uncovering dark truths.
I dont want to sound like I have a tin-foil hat in my head. But it´s pretty obvious that the government was really involved on this.. Politicians need that dirty money, and vice sounds like its trying to deviate the attention to the Cartel abilities to dig tunnels, how clever they were..
West Yorkshire Who knows if Chapo even escaped via tunnel. No independent journalists have been allowed to follow it into the prison. For all we know they let him stroll out the front door and the tunnel is just a distraction.
Knowing that the Mexican government is very corrupt, and the police force isn't doing so well either, odds are the tunnel was dug for him, and he probably payed off guards to pretend like nothing was wrong. He may be dealing drugs, but he's seen as a hero to some Mexican people. He's helped pay off debts for people and buy homes. It's just that he's selling a shit ton of cocaine to help people do this.
aviatortrevor u sir are cool .... they dig two good looking "tunnel" entrances (which i think are holes).. Then "shutdown" or lockdown the jail, only to Put guard clothes on him. Then walk him out. lol
Yeah he said uh a bunch you know why? It's started after people kept uh calling Mexico a failed state and sounding dumb. You can hear him audibly sigh and he's trying to sound calm and not perturbed while answering their questions.
I'm assuming mention of his access to prostitutes was to point out the special treatment he received during his stay. Not to mention this, now: news.vice.com/article/three-prison-employees-face-charges-in-mexico-for-allegedly-helping-el-chapo-escape That's 3 out of 18 suspected, including officials. Do I think the entire Mexican government was in on it? No, of course not. Do I think enough government officials with decent clout were bribed? Absolutely. Whether or not they like the term, they are indeed a failed state.
Spend a year in a foreign land where English is not the first language and I guarantee you would lose the ability trying to find the correct word or phrasing.
Chris Gutierrez has nothing to do with living in a country where english is not the 1st language...im an english teacher living in mexico...my wife is mexican....im listenening and speaking spanish all day. He just needs to work on his poise and his modulation, build his confidence, Vice should have a team to help him work on his delivery.
Mark you're not understanding me. English is obviously not his first language. And besides that you're an English teacher not a reporter! Of course you have the confidence because you're constantly studying the language on a daily basis. But you may be confusing confidence with Ego, which a lot of Americans tend to do.
It's too bad Vice threw whatever respect they had out the window with the scream queens commercial , they did , which was sick and twisted....same ole bullshit as mass media , guess.
I don't doubt that he's better off than I, I just find it irresponsible of him to have so much money power and men at his disposal, and not try to affect real change. I'll bet if he tried, he could take over Mexico.
Daniel really enjoyed the piece as I always do for Vice produced shows but a bit of advice I received back in college in Speech 101. Do not say uh umm every other word. You might not feel like your even doing it uh umm but you are. Work on that bud, not trying to be a dick just gets annoying after a while, your producers and directors should be telling you this...
gringots He knows how to speak, but when you have a billionaire drug king ping whom just escaped from a "maximum" security prison in a corruption nation, you wouldn't uh be saying anything.
Rex Oh, come on. He spoke on El Chapo for 5-10 minutes. And it's not like he had some unique info on the escape, if you're been following the articles. (If you're reading this El Chapo don't kill me, I like you).
gringots I getcha, there really was nothing new in this article, but in past 10 years, close to 400 journos have been killed trying to report on the drug war...imagine if that happened in the states.
Changes accent when saying Spanish words lets you know he isn't a sell out. I'd rather him say Spanish words in his own language rather than trying to make them sound like most White Americans do. Nothing more annoying than a Mexican American or Latin American trying to accommodate the white people.
As a mexican american, i found this video very informative, im planning a trip to my home state of iguala, guerrero,mx , its a shame to hear about all the troubles, but it also lights a fire on my ass to improve my native land
What can you do?
Is it bad I thought the thumbnail was Ghandi when I glanced over it?
lol
Uh uh uh uh mexico chapo uh uh uh uh uh escape tunnel...dude's nervous as fuck.
Don Tran Yes I would.
Rex nah man hes just listening to some guy in his ear telling him what to say
Rex You'd be nervous as fuck too if you were in his chanclas reporting on El Chapo.
I really like Daniel Hernandez's reporting on the great food cultures in Mexico

I really like Dan`s reporting,I`m sure there will be plenty more soon.
I can't stand the constant "uh" pauses, great information and reporting but my tolerance is at it's limit.
So many people do this on talk shows and news opinion networks. I never last long.
Great job! Can't wait to see more reports on Mexico.
it was a great session,,up until i heard the word "uh" for the 1000th time..he really needs to work on that..every other word in his sentences was Uh.
You rock Daniel!
I dont want to sound like I have a tin-foil hat in my head. But it´s pretty obvious that the government was really involved on this.. Politicians need that dirty money, and vice sounds like its trying to deviate the attention to the Cartel abilities to dig tunnels, how clever they were..
"Puts tin-foil hat on" so what you are trying to say is you think the government dug the tunnel?
West Yorkshire Who knows if Chapo even escaped via tunnel. No independent journalists have been allowed to follow it into the prison. For all we know they let him stroll out the front door and the tunnel is just a distraction.

Poor guy. =( KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BOSS! DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOU AWAY..
"uhhh" "um" "uhhhh"
If it's dangerous to walk the entire length, they should allow a robot or drone go through.

I've never heard so many Uhhs in my life. I couldn't even finish the video
Welcome home boss!!!!!!!
El chapo will never go back in jail
Oscar Torres Maybe he will. For a day or even a Weekend trip.
Next time we hear of El Chapo, will be when he's gunned down Pablo Escobar style. There's no chance he'll allow himself to be captured again.
***** ayyy lmao
Modern day John Dillinger
12:00 Constant access to prostitutes?! That government fucking let him out.
Just because he had access to prostitutes you think the government let him out?
I'm assuming mention of his access to prostitutes was to point out the special treatment he received during his stay.

DOING A GREAT JOB DANIEL😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍Most men don't have the balls to do what you do for a living! 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻✌
do you think it's possible that the usa will get fed up with Mexico and do a full military take over
London or england don't get information about other countries.
Do you read newspapers?
It is not the 1900's we don't communicate by morse code.
Daniel should work on not using "uh" so much.
Spend a year in a foreign land where English is not the first language and I guarantee you would lose the ability trying to find the correct word or phrasing.
Chris Gutierrez oh I have I'm Mexican as well. I'm just trying to help him out, nothing else.
Madden 562 so annoying, such a good discussion but this uh uuhh, all the time just drives your attention off from what he is trying to explain.
Chris Gutierrez has nothing to do with living in a country where english is not the 1st language...im an english teacher living in mexico...my wife is mexican....im listenening and speaking spanish all day. He is never going back to prison and probably he will go back in for a vacation trip or he will become the untouchable phantom he has destined to be.
It's too bad Vice threw whatever respect they had out the window with the scream queens commercial , they did , which was sick and twisted....same ole bullshit as mass media , guess.
