    My thoughts on using in the wet: Im on mile 24 as a trail runner and yesterday I ran in a location with lots of technical climbing, mud, high humidity and streams. It was spitting sporadically although not a down pour.
    Having used Vibram previously in the Mont Blanc I can say it didn't quite inspire the same level of confidence in traction but was absolutely adequate (in the Olympus I repeatedly slipped when mountain running in the wet strangely). I have very wide feet and these, in a wide, are the only shoes that are completely comfortable.
    However I have only ran up to 8 miles and am preparing for a 50k ultra so it remains to be seen if the level of cushioning for me will be sufficient.
    Because I did run through streams and deep mud (mid shin level) the shoes were saturated. This resulted in the insole bunching up on one foot (this also happened with the Mont Blancs). I had to remove it and run with slightly reduced cushion. I didn't really notice it but something to bear in mind.
    FYI the LP 9 is being released in a month but looks to be the same shoe with a cosmetic update.

    Would you say these are usable as daily road walking shoes ? And does the noise ever go away ?

    I’ve used Lone Peak 8s all winter trail running in the mud, with roots, rocks, stream crossings and steep hills in NZ - absolutely fabulous and still look great going into Spring. I’ve bought a 2nd pair to wear for my office commute too

      Howdy!
      This is great information, thank you for commenting on this. A lot of folks are concerned about wet environment traction, so hearing about these experiences is valuable. Really happy to hear these shoes worked out great for you !

      Hi did you have snow anywhere? I’d like to know how slippery they are in slippery snow/ ice situations.

      @@CaraKönigsblauI expect you’d need to use micro spikes for snow and ice. I’ve only used them in wet and muddy conditions that we get locally. These wouldn’t keep your feet dry.

    How do you think the Lone Peak 8 will perform in wet conditions? I just heard some negative posts about that. I ordered Lone Peaks last week because I am going to run/walk in Czech hills and some Czech guy was quite positive about them (not especially the 8). In The Netherlands, where I live, you can't buy Altra shoes in a shop, so it was a bit of a guess ordering them via the internet. They are a little too wide (what did you mean with cork sole, can that help too?) and now I hear about problems on slippery terrain. Makes me insecure....

      Howdy there! Nice to see a comment from Netherlands nice to meet you.
      So the cork sole : In my Salomon Ultra 4 I got these inserts called SOLE. They are made from cork, and you put them in the oven so you can form them to your feet they are super nice! I tried them in the Lone Peak and they just don’t have to room for inserts at all so I’m back at the stock inserts. If they are too wide I’d start with checking out medium thickness socks and see how that feels.
      As far as wet surfaces : I too don’t put all the trust in the world in these. Not that they don’t have grip, they certainly do. Are they Vibram grip, no sir. In using the Lone Peak 8 a few times over the year so far, they honestly did fine. I’m just aware when I wear these they aren’t like my Bedrock sandals with a Vibram sole or the Olympus 5, and I’m just a little more cautious. Doesn’t mean you are all over the place slipping, just pay attention to your footing like you would be doing regardless. These shoes are great I think they do a pretty good job for the cost. Out and about on the dirt and whatnot, totally fine
      Thanks for checking out the vid!

      So for winter usage with some snow it would be important to pick a shoe with vibram? Because i was thinking about buying the lone peak 8 for this winter, i’m usually wearing regular barefoot shoes, not trail running. But I really hate the thought of buying winter boots which i can only use 3 weeks a year.

      Hello there and thank you !
      Having some extra outsole cushion Im sure helped a little with the horse shit for sure, excellent choice ! Really glad they work out well for you, they are super nice looking shoes. It would be nice if the Lone Peak came in some similar color ways as the Olympus..
      Thanks for checking out the vid!

    Have you tried them on wet surfaces? That's one of the criticisms I've heard about the sole

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Howdy there! Not yet but I plan to try that out soon. I’m assuming with the non - vibram sole it may not be that impressive.

    • @curanderoverde

      I hear the 7s and 8s have a new sole that is about as grippy as Vibrams

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haven’t tried the 7s, the 8 is my first venture into this. I can definitely say they are noticeably grippier than my Salomon Ultra 04…is the tread design differences I’m not sure, but the 8s definitely don’t worry me so far. I just took them to San Jacinto peak and they did all I need. Wet surfaces TBD, but I’ll be in Sequoias all next week so I’ll certainly give that scenario a shot!

    Scared to get these because of the bad reviews. But seeing the for sale for quite a bit off

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      On this channel I’ve purchased a few items in spite of the bad reviews, and so far had great experiences !
      I’ve just tried my best to really gauge if the bad review is because of misuse of the product, someone who is just seemingly really hard on product outside of design, or just straight having a bad day. If the product has a ton of 2-4 star reviews, I generally think that shows a very true response to a bad product, but if I see mostly 4-5 stars and some sprinkled in 1 stars…that makes me suspicious of potential negative vibe folks just looking to express bad vibes.
      For these shoes in particular, I can’t speak to long term use just yet, but they just took me to the peak of San Jacinto and they did amazing! Not a single sore spot on these feet’s whatsoever. So far for me, they rock and if they are on sale for Labor Day, definitely may be worth investing in ESPECIALLY if you are a weekend day hiker or just do a few trips a year, should be totally fine.
      Hope you find what works best for you! Cheers
