The story of Coinneach Odhar, known as the Brahan Seer or Scotland's Nostradamus he made predictions about local incidents and global events that came to pass in following centuries.
Hello, my dad used to be so obsessed with all this stuff. He used to always tell me i needed to know where i came from. However, i wasnt really interested in history but would half listen because he was exited about it. Sadly, my dad passed last December. When i was clearing out his things, i found the family tree my dad used to study and talk about all the time when i was younger. Ive been looking at it since as i found comfort in reading the tree he was obsessed. Now i know why!!! From what i can see the brahan seer maybe one of the people on my family tree. It starts with Colin/Cailean mackenzie the gerald of tradition. Now im obsessed with my ancestory
Many thanks, the loch was still frozen solid that day after a long winter so I sited the camera back a bit hoping it wouldn't be noticed! If anyone was watching me 'fishing' from the other bank they'd have thought I was off the head.
Oh just great. Big smiles over here Mr. MacDonald. Go catch that pike. What wonderful music do I hear upfront and at the end, whilst listening to your wisdom? ;-)
Many thanks Pete, the music is by Bruce MacGregor. a tune called 'Iain MacFarlane's Welcome to the DT's' from his album The Road to Tyranny. The video was one of a series made for Bruce's Live at Five broadcasts from MacGregor's Bar in Inverness.
One of your best ones yet, Hamish! A fascinating story, well told, and with a humorous twist at the end. (Btw, did you catch that damned pike? If so, I might come and see you for some advice ;)
Just recently found out I'm related to the Mackenzie clan and came across the Brahan seer. The silly part imo is he probably just used common sense for his last prediction, knowing powerful men being faithful to their wives is less common than not! The one prediction he didn't try hard with was the one that sealed his fate. Or, maybe he was trolling the Lady of Seaforth? Who knows. EDIT: Looks like I'll be planning a fishing trip to Scotland 😁😉
Hey, second sight is real- we all have it. Just depends on how connected we are with it. I love this video- thank you for telling the story. Let us know when you catch that pike 😉

'Burned alive in a barrel of tar', he said with a smile. Really enjoyed the video! My grandfather was a Masterton, from Fife.

Many thanks Kay, I knew you were going to post that! The loch was frozen solid that day so I'd have a better chance of catching it now!
I'm confused
May I ask why?
Wish he'd asked a local how to pronounce Brahan?.....It's got a silent H
I loved this! 😃
