In the beginning it says "for 2 amplified sopranos". To be honest I don't really think those guys qualify as sopranos though...👀 Do you know why he specified that?

Right... it's a good question because there are two scores here: one titled "In Her Frown" and one titled "Difficulties Putting It Into Practice." There are several subtle differences between these two scores, and they were written years apart. It seems as though "In Her Frown," which calls for two sopranos, got phased out, and "Difficulties Putting It Into Practice" is an edited version of it that is open to any voice. I think this duo performed the piece sometime in between this phasing-out period, and used the new title, but worked off of the old score [mostly?]. I could be totally wrong, but this is what it appears to be. Perhaps Weston, David, or Simon would like to chime in.

I just contacted Simon Steen Andersen. From the composer's mouth: "... I changed the title at some point while doing a revision, but it is essentially the same piece ..." and that it should perhaps be thought of as "... Difficulties Putting into Practice aka/formerly In Her Frown ..."

@@ScoreFollower Hi! I think Simon Steen Andersen initially wrote this piece for a context (Royaumont if I remember well) where two sopranos premiered it. But indeed in 'Difficulties', the interpreter's ability to be very precise rhythmically and with all extended techniques, with the control of the paper guiro, the tearing etc ends up being way more important than any vocal quality per se. I am a singer and love performing this piece but I mostly saw percussionists performing it... thanks for this video! really great for this kind of piece!
