    Thanks for the video!
This building 01:27 is known as Palacio Chávarri (1894) and is easy to notice that every window and balcony is different one from another, there is no two identical windows. Paul Hankar (partner with Victor Horta as precursors of the Art Nouveau) was the Belgian architect in charge for this project.
Sir Norman Foster ( winner of a Pritzker Prize) designed the metro stations. He is currently in charge of the extension of the Museum of Fine Arts: this museum is one of the best in Spain and Europe in its category. The works are expected to be completed in summer 25.
03:22 More Modernist architecture in the La Concordia Station.
On the opposite bank, the Arriaga Theatre in Neo-Baroque style. All that (at 03:44) was flooded in 1983 when the water level of the estuary rose up to 3.9 m from the façade of the Theatre; 12,9 ft for the weirdos 😝.
That beneath the ground of San Antón is a small part of buildings that pre-date the present church and date back to the times when Bilbao was the Port of Begoña (now a neighbourhood of the city); there are remains of the 1300s wall that are also visible in the Yon Palace (now the Civic Centre) in the Old Town.
09:27 The City Hall by Arch. Joaquín Rucoba, also author for Arriaga's Theater.
09:50 Isozaki Atea by Arch. Arata Isozaki.
The Zubizuri Bridge is the most hated thing by the people of Bilbao. Calatrava is probably the worst architect in the world. Maybe he should have devoted himself to designing scenery for the cinema. Then they would be destroyed shortly afterwards and no one would notice the huge design and construction flaws and enormous cost overruns for which he is world famous.
And on the subject of public transport? If you visit Bilbao, buy a Barik card (a contactless wallet) which costs about 3 euros and lowers prices considerably. For example on the funicular: with Barik, the ticket costs €0.65 each way; the normal ticket is €4.50 return. The card can be used to pay for buses, metro, suburban trains, funiculars and to cross the Bizkaia Bridge (World Heritage Site) in the gondola. All public transport in Bilbao is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility (wheelchairs, pushchairs, prams, etc).
16:07 CORRECTION. People do get up early because we have jobs to go to, even at 6am, or go to school at 8am. Hotels usually serve breakfast from 07 to 10 AM, but few bars open before 9 AM. This is basically a question of labour rights and 12-hour breaks between working hours, which may come as a surprise to someone who comes from ‘a first world country where you can be arbitrarily fired without previous notice and have to pay the doctor's bill...’’. End of sarcasm. In Amsterdam, for example, shops are open from 9am to 6pm on weekdays, in Bilbao it is normal for them to be open from 9am to 9pm. At 22:30, when you go to sleep, the bars here are more than active and there are many people at the cinema or having a relaxed dinner.
We have 40 working hour a week by law, a timetable in accordance with our daylight hours (which BTW are a lot) and we like to be with our family, friends, do sport, go to the cinema or theatre, rest...
The Mediterranean philosophy, in the Basque Country too, is basically ‘we work to live, we don't live for working’. AND WHEN IN ROME... Right? I said RIGHT?
The Guggen is a world landmark of architecture and among museums, not only in Bilbao, in the world. Another Pritzker Prize here: Frank O. Gehry. We have 7 in our small BIG city.
Ongi etorri Bilbora! Welcome to Bilbao!
