This mod shows how a Los Santos in the '50s Industrial Zone would be all connected by trains and trucks would be of no use, and how those abandoned tracks made sense one day. Amazing job on the mod.
@@Nicolas-zw5ex my dumb ass didn’t read your comment fully before making my own comment. I used to do that all the time in GTA SA.. wish we could of done that in GTAV.
This part in 2:18 really reminded me of a one mission in GTA San Andreas in which if you followed one train that train would steer and run on imaginary invisible tracks over sea immediately the moment it would get off player's vision.
That’s mainly because at that point in the game the Las Venturas section of the map is still locked. So the train avoids that area by doing that invisible track route like you just mentioned.
No is because that track is unused for real, and the game is bugged it does anything to do with it, if you take that track youll go to san fierro even if san fierro is still closed , still dont know why they didnt the other track normally
Untill I saw this, I never really noticed how much track was laid everywhere, and how most of it is connected. Also makes me realise how the game play discourages you from exploring many areas, as soon as you get there its dragging you away for the story. Even GTA Online fails miserably to use the scale of the map.
As someone who has an interest in trains/railroads, it annoys me that the train is stuck on a certain route and other routes aren't used. It might be small to most, but for some of us if the train could change routes or multiple were running at the same time it would make the world feel more alive.
Y'know, watching this mod in action makes some of the design choices for all the static rail sections make sense now, especially with all those disconnected one-off rail lines in the industrial zone of town that just seem to exist in a lot of spots without going anywhere. I've also learned the other drivers aren't coded to look for trains. They're coded to stop for the crossing gates. lol
You’ll see a lot of tracks to nowhere now. Railroads will oftentimes straight-rail mainline switches that turn out into unused tracks, making them tracks to nowhere. A lot less maintenance this way, which means railroads will often do this just as soon as the track is no longer required for their operations & service.
I enjoy how faithful Rockstar are to world design. Like you can see how at 9:30 the map has been designed around the fact that tracks ONCE were there, and are now disused. The buildings and even roads are designed around that and not many developers account for that in open world games,
Seriously it's an underrated skills they have. As a cities skylines player I can admit that my city building skills are no better than Rockstars' dev. Details matter.
I really liked to go at full speed and derail the train in the old SA lol also that u could travel from Los Santos to San Fierro for less than 10 seconds was amazing and useful. There were cargo trains and passenger ones. The train stations.... but here, you only can follow the damn train.... Love the video!!
The way the railroads are coded, they can only follow a closed loop of waypoints that just happen to be positioned over the tracks built into the environment textures/objects. The mods that send trains down highways and streets make this a little more obvious if one thinks about it.
I would say one of the (only a few) wrong things in gta 5 is the train, it could have much more potential (missions, free roams events, make it drivable). Funny and interesting video mate
It would need a complete recode of how the trains are handled. One point that's not immediately obvious is that although you can fiddle with the train's path via mods, the path still has to be a closed loop.
@FirdaushGunny hope the 2 will be there, also I really wanna see if there is gonna be a steam locomotive there and there is derailment physics, and a job as a locomotive driver, a mission where you make a massive train crash or something like that
In a perfect world you could do a side mission in GTA VI as a train conductor and have to stop a runaway train like in the movie Unstoppable. Success in this mission unlocks a train company that you can eventually buy and use to ship all manner of narcotics and illegal goods as a side hustle. Every now and again you'd have to bribe the local cops to keep them from sniffing around too much, and the more money you make the more you have to pay in bribes but also the more your ops will want to sabotage and you gotta protect the business.
