@@mylogify the strength and stamina in your right hand for plucking and left hand for pressing the strings down alone makes it much more difficult to play bass guitar. Not to mention your left and right hands have different roles on the bass guitar, so you have to perfect multiple, separate and different techniques for each hand, whereas on a keyboard both hands just press down keys. You also have to mute other strings while traveling up and down different strings. Playing keyboard takes much less strength, precision, and effort.
First time I watched this video was about 8 years ago. I literally roamed through TH-cam to find this video again, without remembering the girl's name or anything at all, just the memory of how beautifully she played. And here I am, as spellbound as I was 8 year ago. This is the most amazing, most beautiful bass guitar video I've ever watched and I've watched so many. Mohini is super-talented! ❤
Drummer Gergo Borlai: grits teeth, looking all over the place, crushes it on the drumkit. Bassist Mohini Dey: Looks off into space a couple of times, calm as you please, crushes it on the 5-string bass. All this to say that I think the very, very best of your abilities, and I'm so glad you two teamed up to create this incredible showpiece! Thank you for blessing us with your music and your talents!
Unbelievable both of them. I think people, especially musicians when they are faced with this level of playing technique feel some kind of anger and jealousy. I can understand that because many are left frustrated after this, and it doesn't suppose to be like that in music. They are just extremely rare talented and devoted musicians and if they feel like being super fast to express self and particular groove, why not. There are no rules in music, easy or super fast, if it's good, it is good, and this is jaw dropping whether you like it or not. They invested many hours and years in this and it is impressive..isn't it? So Gergo and Mohini you are so so good.
Right, but this didn't sound good. Lie to yourself and say otherwise, but this sounds like a parody. I'd love to hear her play actual music at some point.

Nice job and what a demonstration of dedication to the art of music can produce. These two obviously put the hours in. Much love and appreciation to both for sharing their talents.

Insanely Talented and overall amazing speed, clarity, chops you name is she has it. One in a million. Probably the only one in a million!! WOW Mohini a REAL talent. Would love to share the stage with her one day!
Everybody dreams of having this talent. But the real ability is the dedication and time committed to actually sitting down and practicing. Thousands of hours doing it over and over again. Muscle memory. And the theory needed to be so proficient in improvisation. And to be at such an advanced stage at such a young age. How does a kid develop the discipline to accomplish so much. Kids learn so much faster than adults. Praise the Lord for the gift she was given and then developed.

To everyone who says this is sped up....nonsense. You guys really should just accept the fact that there are better musicians than you in this world...in fact, there are a lot of them and they are a lot better.
There is no way this is sped up, she is just that good. One way to tell this is NOT sped up; look at her hair. If this was sped up, you would definitely be able tell just by that alone.
Two geniuses in his world, one bigger than the other! It is not enough to play an instrument (obviously). To fascinate people you have to love your instrument and live it
I noticed in the last several years that bassists rose to the spotlight! It used to be the guitarists... now the bassists particularly young girls stole the spotlights and they didn't like it. Bwahahahaha😂 That is some speed and precision! This girl just played "eat this!" 😂 She doesn't even look 15😳
Wow. Simply wow. People who don't have a solid understanding of music or awareness of exceptional musicianship will say stupid things like "this video is sped up" or "no real musical expression, just mindless chops". Really??! lol! You all should really just quit music! I mean, if that's what you think when you watch this, then what is the point? You have no business being even remotely involved in music. Excellent video!
+Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub Nice troll..... It's 100% NOT sped up. Are you joking?? It's not impossible to play this fast. You need to check out more music artists my friend! And keep practicing.
Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub Well, it sounded like you were trolling going by your comment. I wasn't sure. As for people saying "no real musical expression" "mindless chops", that's fine, it's obvious to me that people can say what they want. But most times, I find people who say these types of things usually don't have much experience with music or playing music. Or use that as a cope out as to why they themselves can't play at this level. I'm not a huge fan of this style of music (progressive etc. or whatever you want to call it) but I appreciate the musicianship and I know enough to understand that what is going on in this video is absolutely not "mindless" or sped up and or whatever insult you want to throw at it.
+Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub No. I think it's harsher for people to make insulting and ignorant comments which they're clearly doing without thinking before typing.. In fact, it's a down right disservice to those who are trying to learn from this video.
Awesome. Seems like many supportive comments. I mean, wow, she's great. She put in her time. I love this type of stuff. That drummer is like crazy great.
In good time she will be amazing , guys below are jealous .Some people are born to play bass , some people want to play bass but have a hard time and do their best , like me , some people need to stop playing bass , this young lady needs to move forward. Thank you much Mohini
+Mark S B. Well said! For some people it is very hard to accept that lady can be better than them. I don't think this wouldn't get so much critics if the bass player would have balls between the legs. ...times are changing and we are living more and more in equal world. Comment for jealous guys; work harder to get yourself in the same level and don't spend your energy for whining.
+Mark S B. You don't decide to play Bass. Great Bass players are born, it's a direction you take from the moment God breath life into your body.. I played guitar for awhile until i was exposed to Eddie Hazel of P-Funk, from that moment it became a hobby...
I've played bass on and off for 20 years but work was getting in the way of learning all that I needed , now I have all the time I need to move forward ,,, Thank you .
Bah.. I'm sick of people saying how there are "haters" and that the one that is "hated on" doesn't deserve any of it.... Well fudge... she does deserve it... i mean, im NOT hating on her.... Kudos to her.. what she's doing IS hard... but her music still sucks. If you think this is music then you have some listening to do...
Except that she plays it live just like this. Every bit as fast. She kills on bass and you can't except it. She played this at Namm 2018. Nobody watching complained that it was sped up because you can't speed up reality. Incidentally, the twitching threads? That's what happens when you are furiously shredding your instrument. But, how could you possibly know that?
+Hyena why does pepole think that who are technical masters have no idea to make music that it's not showoffing and all the people that isn't a good musican just disrespect? Try to train yourself when writting shitty critics to musicans, I mean, 14y old, lol isn't that fkn amazing? She's a technical master, no matter what you say at 14 y old, ane you just go like, bah, I'm better, instead making she happy saying that that's amazing at that age, lol.
Wow...I was surprised to read some of the commentary here. Both are supreme musicians and this was about displaying speed for sure. Numerous years of dedication and studying theory. I can only dream of playing this well. I'm just encouraged and inspired there are still real young musicians taking the time to play. Hoping I can get my 10 year old to be inspired to have this passion, but it maybe wishful thinking, but still have some time. Long live those who take the time and dedicate themselves to truly be a musician with this type of inspiration.
Gergo and Mohini are,as like a Volcano erupts.... Gergo is my HERO 4ever, from my Youngest ages. Mohini is my favorite on Bass as like female.... Greetings,Louis
She's done bass for the best Indian movie songs of A R Rahman over the last 10 years.. people dont know what bass is.. but she's there.. in every hit song of Rahman! And those recieve billions of views
@Sam Yaza yes, this society we are in now days is full of egotistical conceited ass haters. Very sad. This young lady is a phenomenal young electric bassist.
whats with impossible to defend trolling? What I see is non musicians / Weekend Warriors using a video of a talented young girl and with the potential to do something in music to take shots at each other based on their limited grasp of what it takes to be a musician. I very much doubt there are really any serious musicians here and I certaintly dont make a point of watching anything like this based on the type of commentary I see. Its Sickening. Lets take a moment to comprehend this... The attitudes I am seeing in this post are what led Keith Emerson to commit suicide with a self inflicted gunshot to the head after reading negative comments online about the state of his playing. The greatest keyboard player to ever live and one of the greatest minds of rock music took his life after losing his ability to play anymore, because the type of people making comments here. I have so much hatred for you foul people and your bullying. Instead of worrying about other people, why dont you instead give us some insight into why you are such miserable human beings that you feel the need to phychologically assault others over the internet?. Musicians dont judge themself based on how fast they can play scales ok? Should I just give up writing thoughtful music and learning as many instruments as possible and just play scales on my composite neck zon bass all day with perfect action, then maybe Id be able to claim I am one of the best bass players despite never writing any worthwhile music? Its not musicianship. People arent mad. People are mad at jerkoffs that come in with the agenda of spreading the self loathing entremched in their every day lives to others. This girls has the potential to accomplish something. She hasnt accomplished anything I have heard of yet, and that type of mussic doesnt move me. Maybe one day she will do that, as she clearly has a good start. If your using this thread to make negative comments at people, please take this to heart and do us all a favor and walk yourself direcly into on coming traffic if you cant.
I think she will get a better response when music isn’t just about how many different techniques and notes you can pack into a song. Her speed and technique is legit. Sometimes less is more. Picking the right moment for flair. This is just full balls to wall all the way thru. It has it’s place but it’s very niche.
I haven't seen anyone else mention it so far so I'll say it, her solo bit is the Victor Wooten solo from #41 with Dave Matthews Band, she does some impro with it, it's not note for note.
This young bass player is amazing! This vid is not sped up btw, the threads on her jeans are moving from the fan that is blowing on her, the girl has no need to be sped up, she can play circles around most of the blokes in the comments who are dissing on her..saying she need more experience..lol! Her father was an accomplished bass player/musician who taught her from the age of 3..still jealous?? You should be, now go pick up your bass and try to play this slowed down..bet you can't!
Both of them have great technique and speed, that's definitely something to be jealous of. It doesn't have much musical value to me, though. I'd rather listen to crappy musicians playing great music, but IMHO and all that. :)
+Marten van der Meer Spot on. I was just going to comment something along these lines. Whats the use in playing incredibly fast when what you played doesn't really move the listener? It seems less and less people these days care about making great music over mastering the instrument.
Semba Nkalamo no excuses man, you should have a job and if youre serious about your craft, you should have all the basics by your age, if not, well then, you have work to do

To everyone who says this is sped up....nonsense.
You guys really should just accept the fact that there are better musicians than you in this world...in fact, there are a lot of them and they are a lot better.
There is no way this is sped up, she is just that good. One way to tell this is NOT sped up; look at her hair. If this was sped up, you would definitely be able tell just by that alone.
sped up
yep but they got ugly faces
i don't care with her skill
She isn't sped up, He appears to be.
Two geniuses in his world, one bigger than the other! It is not enough to play an instrument (obviously). To fascinate people you have to love your instrument and live it
well, good thing I am also good at fishing, cause I am never gonna be that good at bass. What a performance. Well done!
At least you're good at fishing!
This is like Jaco has been reborn or reincarnated. Such beautiful phrasing. Lovely tone. Awesome playing.
My thoughts exactly. My only concern is, is she also having fun like Jaco did? So very serious; not one smile.
But brava! I hope to hear more.
My love goes to this girl more for her determination . And the hard work she has always done.
Jaco chord transitions in nanoseconds while still sounding musical. Congratulations on your marriage!!!
wow...superb technique
DAMN! THIS CHILD'S LEVEL OF TALENT IS INSANE! I'M SPEECHLESS! THERE'S LITERALLY NOTHING ANYONE CAN SAY TO DESCRIBE HER MASTERY OF THAT BASS! DAMN!
So you don't think it's sped up?
+Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub Nice troll..... It's 100% NOT sped up. Are you joking?? It's not impossible to play this fast. You need to check out more music artists my friend! And keep practicing.
Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub
Well, it sounded like you were trolling going by your comment.
Boba Squid So isn't telling them to quit music a bit too harsh?
+Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub No. I think it's harsher for people to make insulting and ignorant comments which they're clearly doing without thinking before typing.. In fact, it's a down right disservice to those who are trying to learn from this video.
Awesome. Seems like many supportive comments. I mean, wow, she's great. She put in her time. I love this type of stuff. That drummer is like crazy great.
impressive!
Mark S B. Godspeed brotha , you know as well as i do, it's a lifelong journey..
It is a lifelong journey and takes lots of practice ,
Good Luck to you .
This is the Female jaco Pastorius and this drummer is out of this world man! WOW! you all are amazing to hear and watch!
500+ haters mad because a girl can jam on bass better then they can. Get further! For those in the comments, shut up and pay respects. HA! Rock on
How anyone could thumbs down this is hard to comprehend?
Look at the twitching threads on her jeans, she's sped it up. Cheap
They're both AWESOME!!

she is amazing
I just seen 20 years of Rush flash before me , its Magic............
Seen versus Saw. Choose wisely.
Sounds amazing! Their technique is of the charts.
what bass pedal is that
Wow.. ! good bass player.
She's amazing. That ish ain't easy. Go Lady. I appreciate good musicians
PURE GENIUS!!!
You can't be "taught"...to play like this!
If you want composing slills and soul in this song 1:57 and you will ser that she can groove and not just showoffing.
+Alex Sanchez Miguel That solo is a regurgitated attempt at Victor Wootens solo with Dave Matthews band. #41
+Jake Brown You are right, I heard it, too!
+Jake Brown come on man she's a kid, remember your solos from that age? lol i try not to remember mine personally.
+Alex Sanchez Miquel yet it sounds completely soulless. Top technicity, low musicality
彼女がB'zのベースか!!!楽しみ過ぎる
あなたが書くように
Awesome!!!! Seriously, if anyone is gonna post some negative comments maybe you should hit the practice shed for a decade first and practice......
Gergo and Mohini are,as like a Volcano erupts.... Gergo is my HERO 4ever, from my Youngest ages. Mohini is my favorite on Bass as like female....
Greetings,Louis
Why so much hate on this?
Because it's sped up 300x? Lol. You can tell she's actually very gifted at bass, but they really didn't need to speed it up as hard as they did.
Watch her play it live at Namm 2018. This isn't sped up. the ones complaining are clearly hacks that couldn't play their way out of a coffee shop.
th-cam.com/video/dPtcLimTxcM/w-d-xo.html
Because everyone is just hatin because she's so good and they are all salty and think they can do Better
Because hating is the easy way out. So haters get little ways in😉
2015: Nobody has heard of this amazing young bassist!
2021: Nobody has heard of this amazing young bassist!
She's done bass for the best Indian movie songs of A R Rahman over the last 10 years.. people dont know what bass is.. but she's there.. in every hit song of Rahman! And those recieve billions of views
OMG! Superb!
Tecnica apuradíssima. Muito talentosa parabéns.
Lol, what's with all the fully grown men ragging on a little girl for being better than them?
@Sam Yaza yes, this society we are in now days is full of egotistical conceited ass haters. Very sad. This young lady is a phenomenal young electric bassist.
@Dan Fog, you digeeeeeee
She's bloody excellent
whats with impossible to defend trolling?
Right on! The future of bass looks pretty bright!
I haven't seen anyone else mention it so far so I'll say it, her solo bit is the Victor Wooten solo from #41 with Dave Matthews Band, she does some impro with it, it's not note for note.
It’s nice to hear what she’s got in “slow-mo”. She is dope however you look at it.. drummers has the chops. His intro was mad legit
This young lady is amazing very talented will always be a fan 💯
Meaning of Mohini: the one who makes you fall in love with her/hypnotize you..
OH my God !!!
Wow, wow, wow!!! And the drummer too!!! Fantastic sound!!!
Prodigy + virtuoso
why is it on fast forward?
It was exactly my first impression hearing and seeing this. But then it became real.
+Zsolt Kúti it's on fast forward.you can hear it .the pitch it much higher
Why on earth would anybody do such a trick?
The pitch is higher because she's playing through an octaver.
...and you have no sense of humor...
A rare and Brilliant musician..what a gift!
+Marten van der Meer Agreed. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, the speed is impressive. But it sounds like something created by a computer.
Rory McCallum lol Umm, ok. Just send me the money for the recording and filming equipment and I'll personally send you the first demo. Sound good?
Semba Nkalamo no excuses man, you should have a job and if youre serious about your craft, you should have all the basics by your age, if not, well then, you have work to do
Rory McCallum Wait, what? You say that like you've known me for years... For all you know I could be a grammy award winning tamborine player.
Very nicely played the instruments superb Excellent I love the instrumental voice very good 💙💜💛💚full of positive energy😷🙏🙏🙏🙏😷
