There's a Hank 3. Later on from this video, Hank Jr and his son Hank 3 put out an Album called 3 Hanks. It's a gotta listen to for all Hank fans.

The video of Hank Sr. singing was from a filmed version of him singing, Hey Good Looking. Tear in My Beer was written by Hank Sr. and Hank Jr wrote the music. Hank Jr in later life life discovered this song, among many others, and decided to do this. Also, do a reaction video to Hank Williams Jr.'s Man of Steel. The first verse is, " Now my daddy died when I was three", Hank Jr. didn't know his dad because Hank died at the age of 29.

Pedal steel guitar is the instrument in question. Hank Williams Sr recorded the original over 70 years ago

That's not a pedal steel. That is just a steel. The pedal was added several years after Hank Sr and the Drifting Cowboys recorded the original soundtrack for this.

This song was not known for many years. When Hank Jr. discovered it he decided to sing along with his dad. He said that was the closest thing to singing with his father that he could do.

Great Reaction! I also love that smile, This won video of the year and well deserved. Hank Jr. has won 3 CMA video of the year awards including the very first. He is the MAN!

The backstory gives this song so much weight. As most of yall know, Hank Sr died when Jr was 3. Apparently his mom told him "nobody wants to hear your music, they want to hear you play your dads songs." So he soon grew to eventually despise his fathers songs, but was able to come to terms with it decades later. This song was found, unfinished, and he decided to finish it with his dead dad, probably for some sort of closure. They used cutting edge technology to make the video, basically using Sr's old footage and a modern Sr lookalike to make the video. They even cut out and replaced Sr's mouth with the actors mouth frame by frame so hes singing the right lyrics. This video went on to win Video of the Year. I love his huge smile too when he sees his dad. Its like all the pain is gone and hes just so happy to see his dad again, now as an older, wiser man. The decades of emotions are all dealt with and hes so happy. Its such an upbeat song but the video makes me tear up

Hank Sr passed away unexpectedly at the age of 29, Hank Jr was 3-4. He didn't have time with his dad because he was constantly touring. Without touring for months and recording new music there was no radio play. This song was recorded by Hank Williams Sr but never released until 1988 when his son released the song. This was 3 years before Natalie Cole released Unforgettable singing along with her Dad.
The music industry didn't have videos yet , so artists were in a vicious cycle. Radio play, constant touring and recording new music for Sales. Just to do it again.

Hank 3 is one of my favorite outlaw country artists. I’ve seen him live. He did a two hour set of his country, then two more hours of his metal. Awesome show!

If I recall, NC did hers as a tribute to NKC. What I liked about this one was how smooth both father and daughter's voices were. For Hank(s), both were classic C&W voices. The camera compositing used to make Jr. walk in front of the band and behind his dad was impressive for the time. I can't imagine what modern effects could do with it - or even if it should.

    Great Reaction.......
I can thinki of 3 singers who did a "Duet" with their Father who had Past Away...... Natalie and Nat King Cole, Hank Sr and Jr, and I believe Lisa Marie Presley did several with Elvis Presley.....

You have a great ability to make what you wear look great. I am sure the advice your mother told you was for other people. That way if you saw a red haired person wearing pink you could tell them. You are a pleasure to watch and thanks for being part of my day.

That video of Hank Sr. was taken from one of his two appearances on TV in April of 1952. About 8 months before he passed. He was actually performing his hit song "Hey, Good Looking" in that performance, but they edited it for this music video.
Crazy to think he would've turned 100 last September. So there's theoretically a slim chance that he could've been alive today. Blew my mind when I first watched those raw videos of those performances a few years back. Because I mostly have only seen pictures of him my whole life.. Watching the raw performances made my perception of him become more alive, rather than just being a mythical type of perception.

Hank Sr died when Jr was 3 as others here have said, and as he explains in the first verse of Man of Steel. You should do that one for sure, and The Blues Man. And anything else by Hank 😁

The instrument that you thought gave the song a "tropical" sound is a pedal steel guitar. It is, interestingly, characteristic of both Hawaiian music and country music.

I think it's the steel guitar or the lap guitar? that makes that "island" sound? I may be wrong though🤷🤷‍♂🤷‍♀ You still need to do "All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight"..it may have your clutching your pearls. hahahhha

That instrument that has that “twang” sound is called a “Steel Guitar” and
“Pedal Steel Guitar” was used for many years in Country Western music. It is sadly almost never heard anymore. They’re a very complicated instrument to play. They usually use both hands and both feet to play it. Here are some examples on TH-cam that will show you how they play the instrument. th-cam.com/video/5YdHqxTcBfI/w-d-xo.html
