As a Christian, I accept the Gospel accounts as a completely reliable source of historically factual information. I do so from faith in the living God who does not lie and who wants us to know the truth about His Son. As John says "these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Son of God and through believing, have life in His name". The gainsayers have their own agenda and do not oppose these accounts from an unbiased background.
So I can only add how much I appreciate the efforts of Dr McDowell and Dr Kennedy (aka Clark Kent, ha ha ) in bringing to us their findings in these matters. Your "shows" are informative, scholarly and intelligently presented without a trace of the quackery found in some entries on TH-cam.
Thank you Gents for your wonderful video clips. I wouldn't have missed them for quids.
    God Bless you !

The Bible is regarded as historical fiction by us non-believers. Of course it’s gonna have some true elements. That’s the “historical” part. Y’all let me know the next time a human turns water into wine, walks on water, feeds a thousand people with one happy meal, or ascends into the sky wearing only a robe.
Also y’all’s unwillingness to seek divinity today makes me think that you’re worshipping the Bible and the church as idols, and are closed to further guidance from your god.
Look at Sathya Sai Baba and tell me why theists never viewed him in the light of divinity like the old apostles were viewed.
I think it comes down to simple racism. I think Christians imagine the cast of the Bible as white and that’s why a more up to date cast wouldn’t work.

@@davidduffield1713 It's only historical fiction to blind fools, having no love for the truth, who've received nothing from the Lord Jesus Christ. You know damn well, inside, that He exists. Perhaps you don't agree with Him? Maybe you believe that your denial will somehow spare you from being held accountable? Fat chance. Your denial only serves to condemn you further.
It doesn't matter that you don't believe. You can twist perception but reality won't budge. That goes for everyone. He is Lord and Savior whether you like it or not and the Bible (while purposely altered by men with an agenda over the ages) was written by chosen vessels by His Spirit.
On the subjects of Christianity and Christians themselves, they're mistaken and are not His. Jesus Christ didn't come to establish a religion and the true church isn't at all like any church you've ever heard of.
Honestly, you're better off than those who take His name upon themselves in vain. These pretenders, however religious they may be, are worse than murderers and pedophiles in God's eyes.

Interesting that people often make claims that archeological finds "confirm the bible". The bible contains many references to history and accredits causation to "god". Unfortunately, the bible plagiarises many stories and myths from often much earlier cultures and civilisations. I say "plagiarised" because the bible never gives credit or reference to the originators or previous sources the very human authors of the bible stole them from. It is also a massive stretch to claim that places and events as recorded by man as the authors of the bible, when confirmed as a real architectural place, validate the rest of the bible, which is absolute rubbish. That's like saying that because Peter Jackson chose New Zealand as the setting for the movie series "Lord of the Rings" (as authored by the man, JRR Tolkien), and that New Zealand is a real place, that the story of the Lord of the Rings is real, factual and actually happened, rather than being a work of fiction. Stop feeding the gullible, who so desperately want to believe.

I worked with Titus on a dig on Mt. Zion for a couple of summers. I'm surprised he associated the temple trumpeting inscription with Peter's denial as opposed to roosters crowing as, when we were on on way to the dig site early in the morning, invariably roosters crowed to announce the beginning of our day. Each day. The place of trumpeting was the SW corner of the Temple Mount where in fact trumpeting announced key times in their liturgical calendar. To me, the rooster crowing was a more practical milestone of the time by which Peter would deny Christ 3 times than the Sabbath trumpet.

20:40 the fact that construction of the temple began 19 BCE and took 46 years to be completed only means that Jesus' ministry couldn't have started before 27 CE but it doesn't mean it had been recently inaugurated. The 46 years discussion could've have very well taken place any amount of years after it's completion
45:00 Jesus riding on a donkey was a sign of Him declaring He is a king. Kings rode donkeys because it represented times of peace; they rode horses to go war and the people in Jerusalem were aware of this and it was the reason they gave Him a king's welcome laying palms and spreading their coats in the way before Him as he passed. It was just one more sign that alarmed the members of the Sanhedrin as it showed the power before the people He was having, diminishing and jeopardizing the Sanhedrin's power.

Hi Dr. McDowell, this video, amongst other educational videos of the Bible, is so interesting to learn from. I wonder if there are books where they cite Bible verses backed by Biblical historical findings through archeology and historic accounts. Thst would be awesome to get the full picture of what was going on during the Biblical events and meanings of Jesus's sayings through the Parables. I've read Concordances, Historical books, and other books to help me understand, but I've never had everything in one book. Is there such a book? If so, can you let us know? Also, it would be great to get in addition to those books and updated books as the encyclopedias used to have.

The "WORD of "GOD unravels so "MUCH, all attempts by the doubt and unbelief of some archaeologist that don't believe in GOD is "AMAZING, there attempt to say things don't have anything to do with the account described in the word of GOD, and there uncovering the very things that prove the gospel, amazing, history no matter how they try to change it to fit what they want it to fit, instead it just fits the gospels in the accounts the Bible describes, no matter how hard they try to cover it up, the gospel remains true.

My first video with both of you was on the Exodus. I found the information very unbiased, trying to sift shaky “proof” out of the way. Pleased, that lead me to this video, which for the most part was very informative. However, the Alexamenos Graffito details and interpretation had me scratching my head. Something is off here, I thought. So I did a bit of research. Most scholars accept that the graffito is probably from the 3rd century, and not the year 100, which is more in line with the graffito’s depiction. Some scholars see as a plausible interpretation that it was meant as a mockery to heretical groups in Christianity, which also makes sense since it is known, for instance, that first century Christians did not honor icons, which seems to be the reference in the graffito’s depiction, even if in mockery. This makes more sense with what I know of first century Christians, their beliefs and customs. So, please, keep the full range of available understanding on the matter, and swerve from the human temptation of presenting facts that cater to our predetermined beliefs. That is precisely what lead me to watch a second video from you guys. Thank you.

I know just enough to be dangerous (usually to myself, as in making a fool thereof); but it constantly surprises and frustrates me how these brilliant PhDs will place AD after the year, as in "70 AD." Of course it should always be "AD 70" (i.e. The Year of Our Lord 70, or, Anno Domini 70). The impetus for this error is the surprisingly persistent misconception that AD stands for "After Death." I know it's hard to believe and funny; but many people still assume this is the case. Naturally the funny thing, if that were true, would be the roughly 33 years (Jesus' earthly life) which would historically have no numerical year ascribed to them. As NT Wright jokingly refers to them, "Those embarrassing years between birth and crucifixion."
p.s. Love the show, sir. Just having a little bit of nerd fun with my particular pet peeve.

The "spiderman" lie says that the source being well-researched/ having a good understanding of an environment has no fbearing on evaluation of a sources veracity.
For someone who is writing fiction, the reseach can be important, knowing how people in another situation, place and time would act, dress and to give actual details of the environments.
But once the fiction is written it is also open to contradiction by other sources on the same subject on all the details given in the fictional narrative and that would be random to the fiction writers research. Things that were known to him he would have used, things he got wrong he would have used, but what was not known to him he would not have been able to use.
Now take a handful of fiction writers from the first century who are coordinated in their writings, well researched where any research would be done by travel and library visits, travel and interviews or travel and observation on location, producting individual pieces of fiction that survives all analyses, challenges and new findings over 2000 years.
Only a moron would believe that.
