    I’m 66, still working, deeply in debt and need so much help with my budgeting. I lost all retirement when in the 90’s and have basically started over. I’m frustrated but determined to pull thru this. Your videos are really encouraging me and easy to follow. Thank you!

      Not everyone has had the privilege to learn from a young age how to save up. It honestly starts with how your parent’s handled their money. My parents are clueless and I have to learn to fix it for them 🙃

    As someone who finds budgets kind of hard to stick with, I've started using the anti-budget (coined by Paula Pant from the Afford Anything Podcast) to get over this hump while still using this Excel workbook. Instead of setting an amount per category, you set a minimum amount to save each month and a max to save each month, instead of watching every dollar, you'd save the minimum straight away (if you can) and then whatever money is left after expenses can be placed in the savings to get closer to your max or you can roll it over to the next month.

    Im doing so bad. I make 1400 a month right now. It’s only the 13th of the month and I’ve spent 1,000$ . And the semester is going to begin in a few days. I have a feeling I’m going to spend at least 500$ more. Meaning at least -100 of what I have in my account.
    I’m grateful for the budget yet sad at my irresponsibility.

      I'd focus on changing myself / my habits / mindset and how I view money (that is, the program I have running through my head). Change often comes from the inside out. A spender will spend. A saver will save. It's the "money identity" that needs some tweaking.

      @@MarkReese Hi Mark, thank you for the advice! I definitely need to change my mindset around money. For me I have a limited perception of it, so I spend fast. I have a budget now so hopefully it slows my spending and build my savings. ❤️‍🩹 From now on I’m going to be a saver!

    Maybe I'm missing something? Your total expenses are from your projected budget but not your actual monthly budget. If in the gray area you put $400 for restaurant expenses but in January you actually spent $500, then your total expenses and money left over are different than what your formula would tell you. Am I wrong?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great point! Yes, that's correct. The purpose of the 'Total Income' vs. 'Total Expenses' cells was to give a sense of the estimated gain or loss per month.
      To get the actual result, you could instead do the following...
      Have a row for 'Total Income' and another for 'Total Expenses' for each monthly column. Then a 3rd row for 'Profit / Loss' or 'Over / Under' if you like.
      Using my examples in the video, it could be...
      Row 20 = Total Income (for each month, this would be manually typed in)
      Row 21 = Total Expenses (for each month, this would be the summation of expenses in the rows higher up, so for January: =SUM(C4:C18)
      Row 22 = Over/Under (for each month, this would be the difference between Row 20 and Row 21. For January, it'd be: =C20-C21
      Make sense?
