Great stuff Ken! My bud Sasha just sent me a link to this. Brings back a lot of memories. I wasn't present for the vocal recording, but I heard Bill was jokingly cursing my name for starting a track in 5/4, but ya, that might be a bit unnatural when punching in compared to the ole 1,2,3,4. I had no idea at all that you snuck in your own voice!! lol...any other tracks I should be aware of that you did that for? Talk about going the extra mile :-) I do recall some folks were pleasantly surprised to see your name on this record since we worked with Greg Reely so much, but we were on a roll with the work you did on Unit 187's "Out for Blood" (RIP Tod Law) and I really wanted your mitts on those beats. Having you and Greg both work on a record I was a part of was a whole ton of awesome! Do you have a vid on drum sounds up? Don't see one, but would be must see viewing :-) BTW, a tribute album of Jeremy's (RIP) solo work is in the final stages of production and assembly and we hope to have a release date soon. All the best Ken! CP
Corndog- it’s Rob from Stromkern. Just learned through this post that Jeremy passed. Really sorry to hear. Some time has passed but you have my sincere condolences.
@@wentzr Thanks Rob. Last few years have seen some tough losses. Hope all is well with you and yours. My wife was just blasting some Stromkern yesterday. Always brings back good memories hearing it.
The added DnB influences from Flavour of the Weak, and later FLA, as well as odd Time Signatures IMHO is when you guys really started going into new territory, Chris. BTW I'd met you at the Varsity in Baton Rouge for the "Implode" tour. Was chatting you up by the bar about the Akai S-2000 at the time. lol
Man this album is 10 years old now? uuuuug time flies. I think i still have tactical neural implant on cassette somewhere. This album was absolutely badass. Angry industrial FLA DnB is the best Frontline Assembly
Amp Farm 3.0 and Echo Farm 3.0 support AAX, AU, and VST. Line 6 doesn’t do a lot of marketing for their plugins, but they are as fantastic as ever and preserve what we loved about the TDM versions, and much more.
Rest in peace🙏✋✌ thank you for showing, that that's a crazy ideal feeding noise or even different types of noise pink, brown, or white! and using guitars to feed into the vocoder.. genius!🎹🎧💫💀😵👍✌
Sebastian that’s awesome, I’m not familiar with that one, but knowing Waves I bet it’s brilliant!!! Can you imagine our world without Waves plug ins?!? Big time fan ;-)) Cheers and thank you for sharing! -hw
Thank you for sharing so much interesting productional inspirations and the emotional side of productions. You are so involved doing so. I may call you a real artist. May the gone rest in piece.
Ken, thank you SO much for sharing your production techniques with the world, by doing so your are helping raise the bar for producers and musicians in many genres.
A while ago, went to an FLA show. Before opening act, started chatting with this kid .standing next to me. Nice guy, funny, passionate about music. He mentions he's in the band, and points to where he'll be. That was Jeremy,
Thank you poolwaiter, so awesome of you to share!!! Jeremy was a HuGe reason that 2014 SP/FLA tour was my most favourite EvEr!!! Thank you Jeremy, RIP ;-)) Cheers, -hw
The Line 6 Helix Native plugin sounds incredible, and you still can't beat NI Guitar Rig Pro for flexibility and near-infinite options to create crazy audio-mangling effects chains.
Love your uploads. Admired your work for a long time especially your work with Skinny Puppy! Their sound from the 80's and 90's was AMAZING and love hearing the inside stories. Thanks for the inspiration!
I remember being so excited when this album came out. Hostage was my favorite. "Human. Target. Identifiiiiied." I love these videos because they give me insight in to what I could be doing with my own vocal production, so thank you for putting in all the effort to make these!
I cant express how much these videos have helped me while recording my latest album! You have such a wealth of knowledge. Everything from tuning tracks to that radio gate is fantastic! Thank you so much!!
I've been wanting to improve my own meager attempts at vocoding and vocal processing so thank you so much for sharing this. Amazing work for an amazing band!
New to your channel Ken but really y digging the videos. Great things to be learned from great music and production and your enthusiasm and passion is clear, abundant and a joy to see. Would really like to see you show how to create the huge wide effects (and mixes) you mention in this video.
Cool stuff. I'm in the middle of an adventurous Industrial album production, shortly after the latest release. Working with one of the originators of the German industrial scene who knows the guys from Puppy and Frontline in person sometimes puts some stress on me ...so I'm always looking for input and knowledge from this genre. And here I've found a fountain of knowledge for free. Keep up the good work on TH-cam. Much appreciated dude!
Just stumbled on this looking for some vocal tips - how great is this? One of my favs. For you FLA fans there's a new Album out from Noise Unit (FLA alum based project)
Hi Ken, This video is kind of a dream come true for me. I have always loved FLA’s vocals. One track, “Deadened,” from the album, “Echogenetic,” is my absolute favorite FLA song, not so small a part because of the vocal treatments. Do you have any insights into how that one was done? I really want to try and replicate it as close as possible myself. Thanks.
Love your videos and I appreciate everything that you do. If possible could you do a video on the complete mix of the song breaking it down track by track? Again Thank you!
i'll probably research this immediately after posting it-- but you should seriously consider writing a book if you haven't already-- not just about your techniques but your experiences with these bands.
Amazing video, Ken! Thank you for sharing this stuff. First we get to hear some of Ogre´s tricks now Bill´s. I wonder what you are planning on showing us next. All the best! :)
If you are looking for a cool vocal amp effect, check Audioease "Speakerphone" (It's a secret to everybody). I like that formant vocoding of guitar with vocals trick. When I first heard "Beg.." and then the pause, I was thinking of the "Big Money" remix from way back then suddenly relived it through this video.
Kimberly Halbrook Thank you, these sessions are so much fun ;-) So far I’ve not had an opportunity to work with NIN or Trent, but I’m a HuGe fan and often dreams come true ;-)) I appreciate you sharing, thank you! Cheers, -hw
Francis 7 you should see the smile on my face lmao!!! Thank you for this...OK I just went and had a quick look and see they’ve got both amp and echo farm...and even offer an upgrade path for dinosaurs like me lol! Must check them both asap ;-) So appreciate you sharing, thanks again! Cheers, -hw
Ken Marshall happy to share the good news! Love the channel. Just used the gator radio on a track yesterday keying some shortwave transmissions. Great results!
Im diggin your vids man. You’re a nice cool freak :)) 1 advice imHo change or add to the intro of your vids: snow bike to .. studio/mix/music.. whatever ur channel is. That bit always throw me off! :P Cheers!
OH! Yeah! I'll totally "Give (that) a try!" dude! LOL! (I have a Comadore 64 that I am still paying off and a KORG microKEY, but, yeah, dude, am ON IT!!!! OH! Dude for serious real, I was checking out a project on Alfamatrix Psy"AVIA or something, resounding reminiscence of Delerium. Promising project. Might want to hit up his LinkedIn or whatevs….(people with jobs doi!! LOL)
Jeremy was a good friend of mine and i remember getting the call while i was sitting in my car in the parking lot of a bar. it was a horrible call i never wanted to receive.

Glad to internet see you Chris! the albums you're in are my favorites, hope you're good!

Hi, I like your work especially on Implode, Any plans for new Decree album?
First Skinny Puppy, now FLA?!?
FUCKING AWESOME
Great video about vocal mixing technics. I'm FLA fan for more than a 30 years and this kind of videos are gem to me! 10/10🎉🎉🎉🎉
Loving the industrial production breakdowns. Hope there's more coming. And thank you!
Thank you OB 77!!! For sure my friend, we’re just getting started ;-) These sessions are a blast!!! Cheers to you! -hw
Thanks for sharing Ken. Awesome
I met Jeremy in person in 2013 (Budapest). We were talking a bit and he delivered very positive vibes. RIP Jeremy.
You are without a doubt the best introduction to production techniques ever. Your enthusiasm is beyond infectious.
FLA is my second favorite after The Prodigy! Your videos are very helpful and informative for the industrial genre. Subbed! 😎 Cheers.
This is one of my favorite FLA songs!!!! Love this behind the scenes stuff!
I just listened to this track for the first time last night! Thank you for this!
You had me at Front Line Assembly..
This is awesome. FLA will always be my favorite industrial band of all time.
I'd love to see a break down of how you guys made "Shifting Through the Lens".
I'd seen a fan video of it that was pretty amazing.
This just made my day finding this. I didnt realize you had videos up until today AND you went over this track!
I just found your channel tonight Ken. As an Industrial music fan since '89-90 it's been a blast watching your content on your channel.
Man this album is 10 years old now? uuuuug time flies. I think i still have tactical neural implant on cassette somewhere. This album was absolutely badass. Angry industrial FLA DnB is the best Frontline Assembly
This is amazing information thanks so much for doing this!!😀
All music should be like this. You buy the song and get all the tracks for the song so you can mash up your own version.
Thank you so much for these videos!!
Dude! YOU ARE LITERALLY GOING OVER ALL MY FAVORITE MUSIC LOL
Thank you Ken!
The chugging third layer was a genius stroke.
You're the best!
Thank you johan, I appreciate that my friend ;-) I hope you give it a try...so many different possibilities!!! Cheers to you, -hw
This is just so awesome. Thanks for uploading bro!
No one is giving you props for your head swerve in-intro. It's great!
These are great Ken!! Rhys is my brother in law - making these beats!
This record slaps, and these videos are giving me life.
This is so great- really inspiring

Sweet. The Waves vocoder has a similar noise generator in it, also using it for the same reasons. Really cool.
Sebastian that’s awesome, I’m not familiar with that one, but knowing Waves I bet it’s brilliant!!! Can you imagine our world without Waves plug ins?!? Big time fan ;-)) Cheers and thank you for sharing! -hw
Without a doubt, this is the best youtube channel ever. Would love to hear some stories about the production of TDP and Last Rights
I have an Electrix Warp Factory as well, but I believe it needs servicing.
Really is a great unit.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for pulling the curtain back on this stuff. Very cool!
These sessions are a total blast Johnny, thank you for sharing ;-)) I look forward to breaking down some drums and loops too!!! Cheers, -hw
I am SO glad you are on TH-cam Ken...! awesome videos man....
And these vocals, wow ...bad-ass-ness!
So badass, thanks again for the awesome insight! Also Jeremy Inkel was in a great band everyone should check out, Left Spine Down, much respect.
Wow, I had done a remix for LSD years ago, but never made that connection. Rip Jeremy. 😞
The best tracks on Echogenetic were heavy Jeremy. Dude had a gift for sure. Tremendous vid Ken. Can't thank you enough.
A while ago, went to an FLA show. Before opening act, started chatting with this kid .standing next to me. Nice guy, funny, passionate about music. He mentions he's in the band, and points to where he'll be. That was Jeremy,

Brilliant Ken!! The guitar addition is pure genius. Gunna try it myself

Cool that you called out the electrix gear - I have the exact same set up in my studio and haven't found software to replace them yet!
Loving this series man, they answer so many questions I never new to ask about the history of industrial production.
Brilliant as always Ken!!!!!! I love this stuff
Fantastic. I've always wondered exactly what crazy was being done to these vocals. Now I know!
How am i just finding you now? all these videos on industrial bands i love as a fan and as a fellow musician/studio owner.
I've been wanting to improve my own meager attempts at vocoding and vocal processing so thank you so much for sharing this. Amazing work for an amazing band!
Woohoo! I love these videos. Keep em comin, Ken!!!!
This is gold, thank you!! would be amazing if you could continue with FLA
Very impressed for your work, thanks a lot for your videos

That is "too killer". Inspiring insights and such great energy shining through this channel.
Excellent!!! FLA electronic/acoustic drum production techniques next, please! :-)

Dude.... please learn us the vocal processing on worlock.... please, please ?
j sebastian oh yes!! Worlock!!
dunno if hed do that as he had nothing to do with it.
It's a vocoder.
This has the same song structure as Dave Brubeck's Take 5 I even played the piano over this song and it fits
Love your videos and I appreciate everything that you do. If possible could you do a video on the complete mix of the song breaking it down track by track? Again Thank you!
1:07 Nice.
i'll probably research this immediately after posting it-- but you should seriously consider writing a book if you haven't already-- not just about your techniques but your experiences with these bands.
AmpFarm and EchoFarm are available as AAX plugins from Line6 now!
So cool....
Amazing video, Ken! Thank you for sharing this stuff. First we get to hear some of Ogre´s tricks now Bill´s. I wonder what you are planning on showing us next. All the best! :)
watching Ken, Time to get my notebook out!

Could you cover how to get CRUSHING industrial guitar tones? Played or sampled. I'm probs talking FLA type stuff. Keep up the great work, mate!
gotta tune down the guitar
@@MichaelJBazinimusic not really. most of Ministry's guitar stuff is in E standard.
Im diggin your vids man. You’re a nice cool freak :))
1 advice imHo change or add to the intro of your vids: snow bike to .. studio/mix/music.. whatever ur channel is.
That bit always throw me off! :P
Cheers!
How did you get these each of these 4 vocal tracks to sound clear and not just jumbled noise
OH! Yeah! I'll totally "Give (that) a try!" dude! LOL! (I have a Comadore 64 that I am still paying off and a KORG microKEY, but, yeah, dude, am ON IT!!!! OH! Jeremy was a good friend of mine and i remember getting the call while i was sitting in my car in the parking lot of a bar. it was a horrible call i never wanted to receive.
I'm curious how all of this vocal processing is performed live... are you involved in that in any way?
Bill Leeb one of the best singers EVER
I feel like you could sell oxyclean
I am not going to be the nummer 1 "unlike" But this Mr. Leeb guy is a bit of a downer? No?
