I have not been in a set of Spurs for over 25 years BUT I just bought a house that has a nice 80 foot tall Straight up tree that I’m going to take down,, Top Down job as the houses are a little to close for a 51 year old 215lb fat guy that been out of the game for 25 years!! So I did what anyone (Should) do!! Educate yourself.. Your videos have and still do that for me... I don’t know if you really understand how much your videos help.. And 100% yes!! I’ll bet good money that “You” with your videos have saved someone life from a fall.. I watch and replay your videos all the time on your ropes and gear.. again “Thank You” 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome videos man! I took over my old man's business when he passed in March of 2020, had worked on and off with him as a ground guy for 12 -13 years. Chipping, doing firewood, technical takedowns around houses etc.. I never thought I'd be climbing. We've always had at least 1 of 2 close family friends on our crew who have 25+ years climbing. Mid season last year I got a saddle and spurs on a whim, then I fell in love and I've been working at it ever since. It's such a unique form of art. Us tree guys are a special breed that's for sure lol
It’s like watching a very well choreographed ballet well experienced sir . Watching your channel I find extremely relaxing and I can forget my disabilities and pain . PLEASE keep up the outstanding work .
I don't usually take the time to comment, but especially wanted to say thanks on this one. It's all because of your videos that we started using speedlines for trees in precarious locations. The homeowners are always mesmerized - but we don't do it for the awe factor - we do it because it keeps us from hoofing out 4,000lbs worth of limbs!
"ONE" of YOUR 'Best Ever' dedicated offerings to us. The tree work PLUS the 'detailed' EXPLANATION was OVER the top as YOU and the CREW remain so calm. You've honestly 'made a difference' in this world and Thank you! Sonny
Howdy August, the speed lining videos have always been one of my favorite to watch. Now you do a video with tandem nearly synchronized speed lining....mind blown. The communication and teamwork it takes to make this look effortless is a testament to the professionalism, discipline of your crew and the training they have received. The editing of the video to tell the story is top notch as well. Thanks!!
Thats a awesome video August and Joe and Travis! I've only speedlined one time and it was down at the lake of the Ozarks. Its the beginning of the Ozark mountains and it was on this gnarly side of a hill. I zip out a wite oak down a hill to a chipper. I had fun that day.
Like the New style of Videos ! Like the " how would August made it , and why " ! Allways good , allways well thaught ! Greetings from germany my friend !
I love speed line, it so efficient, easy on everybody and safe for the ground crew since they are away from the tree. The climber still can drop small stuff without having to worry about the crew on the ground. But the top is definitely the risky part. Great video guys 👍
I cant believe 2 people thumbed downed this video. What is wrong with people. There is so much safety and thought design into this video it blows my mind some may think it was a bad video. August, Travis, Joe, and all. Great work, great edit, great video.
Kit looks amazingly well thought out. 😁 Also thought I was seeing double until August said the lines where doubled.😂 Glad to see you didn't reach the end of you're rope in those tall noodles. 😜
I was just wondering what rope/anchor you were using for your pinto Pully two anchor it in the tree on your DRT? Also thank you for all the excellent videos.
Hey August, do you include a second bag in the speed line kit? Ground guy can be filling a bag as he's pulling slings off, while you're emptying a bag up in the tree, then swap bags? Edit: Nevermind, checked your website, comes with EVERYTHING!
To your point about "back in my day" and "you're too fancy" complaints... actual righteous progress is often frowned upon by the foolish. I was always taught to work smarter, not harder. Is it safe(er)? Is it (more) efficient? If it passes that basic litmus test, its probably the wiser course and worth the added initial effort (R&D/funding). Thanks for what you do and for passing on your experience and knowledge, I've learned an incredible amount in the short time since I've found your channel.
Hello sir. I just recently subscribed to your channel. A very good one at that. Actually your videos are very entertaining. May I ask what is the tallest tree you worked on? I wish I could give you more than one thumbs up. 👍👍👍👍👍
August, what was the reason for having the speed line on the backside of your tree, behind the limbs next to your lifeline? In most cases, it seems beneficial to have the speed line on the front of the tree, creating the shortest distance (and the most lift) for the limbs to travel. Love your videos. Big’s Tree Service. Philomath, Oregon.
20:31 "...back in my day..." ...we used double bit axesto drop trees ...we used 6' crosscut saws to drop trees. lol A number of years ago I went through the Central NB Woodsmen's Museum in Boiestown New Brunswick, Canada and saw one of the earliest chainsaws used here in NB...it took two men and a lot of brute force and awkwardness to make it work. Sometimes change is a good thing. (even for us Maritimers who HATE change. lol)

Right job for a real Monkey Beaver when you have to climb 10' before you can start using your flip line. BUT how many of those speedline loops been fed into the chipper? 😜
That "Back In My Day" mentality drives me nuts. When i was working construction as a kid we didn't have nail guns, I was stoked for the invention of the nail gun, but so many old timers were like this is just lazy those nails wont last this piece of junk ect ect. I can tell the professional from the rookie from the small branches left on the wood at the end of the job. August you are a professional that has paid your dues. Thank You
Yeah in ibew 659 and 125 you are required to get line clearance certified and that usually involves going through a 2 year apprenticeship. If you have a lot of experience you can challenge it though
@@reganojalehto3477 I don't think that August is a member of the electrical workers union. 😏 Pretty sure Keegan D. was talking about arborists taking down trees near power lines needing a cert for that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has put bar oil in my gas tank. I've only done it once but there has been many times I've filled up both bar and gas and forgotten to put the caps back on before i pick up the saw. Nothing like pouring a full tank of gas and bar oil down your leg or on the ground to make you feel like a dumbass.
Not true. There are multiple chainsaws being run simultaneously at different locations on the project. If you are listening through Bluetooth headphones also the sound will be delayed.

What length bar do ya like the best on that 2511t?

In speed line kit there is 20 carabiners, am I right?
Depends on the kit
I never used a lanyard on the initial accent. Unless it had a wicked lean. Or if I was trimming on the way up.
Does the speed line have to be in the tree your working or can it be rigged from an adjacent tree?
Speed line can be anchored adjacent.
