- On a very hot afternoon in May, Penn Rail Videos was out in search of vintage EMD power. We turned our attention to the East Penn Railroad's operation on the former Reading Railroad Perkiomen Branch.
In recent months, the Perkiomen Branch as become home to former Susquehanna (NYS&W) GP18 #1804. The engine is repainted into the current "ESPN" corporate scheme, a very attractive yellow and blue with striping on both the short and long hoods. Accompanying the GP18 is former Conrail GP10 #7554, built for the New York Central as a GP9. #7554 make look a little weary, but the old soldier can still march on.
Join us as we follow the train from Pennsburg up through Powder Valley and into Emmaus, where the line interchanges freight with Norfolk Southern Corporation. In Emmaus, you can even hear the very NS Local (H-11) as it blows for the Harrison Ave. crossing while the two EMD veterans grind up the hill towards the Klines Lane run-around track.
If you like vintage EMD power in regular service, then sit back and enjoy this presentation from the Perkiomen Branch of the East Penn Railroad.
great video love the company colors they compliment the scenery through which they operate. It looks like an awesome road to railfan I am a big fan of regional and short line railroading. though we don't have many shorelines in Florida thanks for the share great locations to capture! Happy Train Watching !
I see that train everyday in the summer time because I live like 4 houses away from the tracks. I've live in upper perk for 11 years now and 7554 was the engine that got me interested in trains. Every now and then I see it during school
Great video! I love the East Penn Railroads's paint scheme.

Yep, The NS Reading Line Interchange
choo choo
That is definitely a good analysis of the video
Wonderfully quaint branch line with mixed goods trains running at a rather leisurely speed. The kind of working that has become all but extinct here in the UK.
My friend please be careful standing so close to trains. Yes the shot looks great but if a car derails next to you it may well be your last video.
What are the main industries served on the branch?
I live on the branch, In 2021, Now Thay Are Mainly Focused On Propane, And Sugar For The Chocolate Factory.
