Yes! Someone I used to work with is this character personified. Very scary and absolutely awkward to watch! Phil has to be my favourite Chris Lilley character.
My God, i had an Uncle named Phil who behaved just like this. Every single thing that fell out of his mouth was pure cringe and everyone in his vicinity would look unbearably uncomfortable which made it 10x worse. But he was totally and utterly oblivious. He once stood up at my Cousins wedding and gave a 5 minute speech about his observations on pigeons which he could see outside of the window. It was so insane that everyone laughed hysterically. He pointed out that pigeons were not a laughing matter. Totally bonkers.
Oh gosh, he makes me feel the same way I felt about Ricky Gervais' character in The Office...just so repulsed by his worminess but also this desire to give him a hug?
The "Tommy Emmanuel's" & "Hoodoo Gurus" music selection is a very clever joke. It's so accurate for this character is amazing. Even though it was small, one of my favorite things in the whole series.
I’ve met you once at a Melbourne nightclub and you were the sweetest loveliest well-mannered man and when I asked for a photo with you, you put your cap backwards and took a photo with me! This was right after I watched “Ja’mie, private school girl” and I wa star struck! I love your work, please make more!
3:06 The 'settle down settle down' is brilliant. When he's imagined what this will be like the kids would obviously be raucous and thrilled to see him, and when that doesn't materialise he's too thick to be able to adapt 😂

When he tries to bribe Malcolm and says "I was just kidding" when turned down, is a case of Schroedinger's Douchebag. He's either "just joking" or completely serious, but we don't know until Malcolm responds 😂 (Although we know he's serious regardless)

Probably one of the most underrated Chris Lilley characters. And what’s so funny is I read Phil is suppose to live in Bray Park, which is the suburb I live in. Idk if it was actually filmed there, but the fact I know someone who lives near me who acts like this is uncanny. Typical goofy North Brisbane behaviour 😂
What I think is brilliant about the show is how you nailed the very subtle differences between states. Even within the broad class distinctions of Daniel, Phil, Pat and Ja'mie, you make them sound specifically like they're from that state and not the others.
I remember watching this on DVD from an ABC shop! All the characters from ‘We can be heroes’ are THE BEST! Please bring them back somehow? 😂 Even Pat, I’d be willing to accept a plot hole!

It's perfectly OK to play a woman or girl, but if you really want to write about black/Asian people etc., hire actors who are from those ethnicities. It's only natural that these things are frowned upon, and he knew that before he made those shows.
