It's a trend and all trends die and come back. Get in on it early and make some money sure but people that say NFTs are gonna somehow "change the world" are either scammers or being scammed.
People want to own the mona lisa because it was made by an incredible artist and took incredible skill. But these NFTs are literally the same ape pictures with different backgrounds made by a 15 year old nobody using paint.
That's what i don't understand. Why the hell would anybody buy that.

Ok hold up. Digital art is just as good as physical. Most nfts are randomized combinations of drawn items. The whole difference is digital artist are making art and each drawng is its own and the stupid monkeys all look the same. It has no soul.

I use this argument when 'digital artists' are crying about AI-generated art not being real art. I draw and paint with physical substance. Anything digital is an algorithm. Whether you did it 'pixel-by-pixel, brushstroke-to-brushstroke, or prompt-to-image. It is all the same. Algorithms placing pixels based on what the artist has envisioned. Granted, digital artists still have more initial control over what the computer does than 'prompters' do, but control net, open poses, etc have come a long way in a short time.

@@420thebestdayever i have done my research. im friends with a dozen artists. i follow dozens more on social media. the amount of artists i see posting evidence of their art being stolen to be sold as NFTs is more than enough to put me off of the idea, let alone money laundering and the environmental impact. Maybe YOU need to do your own research, because it sounds to me like you're in your own self affirming little bubble of an echo chamber. The overwhelming majority of people are strongly against NFTs, and for good reason.

It's all proven on the Blockchain for anyone to see, until the site it's hosted on goes down, or it's literally just deleted
that's not how a blockchain works haha, you're able to explore it and verify things regardless of if any website goes down. that's kind of the entire point of having a constantly updating copy of the blockchain on millions of computers worldwide. i'm not gonna try and argue about the morals, ethics, or even usefulness of it all because that starts like 30 different arguments and gets no where. just know that the blockchain and NFTs can't really vanish if a website goes down, especially now that the images or content are now being commonly stored on IPFS, which is kinda like bittorrent but for web content (pictures, text, audio, whatever) that works natively in your browser with no extra work
Why should I care about the block chain?
It's like owning the Mona Lisa but not having a receipt. Is there even a receipt fir the Mona Lisa?
Nft are overrhyped, just Jpegs attached to blockchain to prove originality, more sort of action-figure collection with a receipt. People must really like the art and have money to buy, if not its worthless.

NFTs are basically easy to pirate tokens where the only thing pirating does is devalue the original's worth.

NFTs will just end up being a bubble, and so will crypto. Only if you can trade it in for money, they are useless. Hypothetically, once the metaverse is accessible, crypto can be useful, but the metaverse is literally one of the most overused dystopian tropes for a reason
I agree metaverse probably will end up kinda dystopian lol - NFT's are the only way to have provable scarcity of a digital item though if you think about it, a visual static jpeg is scratching the surface. It's like owning I.P. rights but its an image.
