That's right, this was my first attempt at this song. Actually, I avoided this mid-tempo, quarter-note groove because I couldn't keep it up well. It's songs like this that show how good Tico Torres is. Still, it was more fun than I thought it would be. I hope you enjoy the songs you like too.
I love these old pop songs or how I look at this type of music pop-rock. I'm in a Tom Petty stage. But I think I was more drawn to pop music back in the day of Thrash Metal. I was a closet pop listener. I liked Debbie Gibson and other groups that were pop thought that their music was more technical. Then most of these Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal groups. Ishi, you said change phrasing? Why do you call it that? If I were to ask you, say I didn't know anything about playing the drums. How do I learn to play the drums what would you tell me? I'm going to have to learn this song, it looks fun. I have Living on a prayer on my Utube when I built my electronic drum set and posted a few videos about that and some songs I learned in a week to post up. But I like these songs they are easy and I can learn them fast.
Oops I should have said changed the drum beat rhythm instead of saying phrasing. I took the original song filled in and changed some of the beat rhythms. I think the drum pattern is easy to follow. For me, keeping the quarter-note strokes at this mid-tempo was a good practice. I'm used to playing fast songs with even finer eighth-note hi-hats, and I find it difficult to slow down and maintain the tempo and groove.
