  • Here we have a new queen with ugly looking larvae. A little help from the beekeeper and everything will turn out just fine!

    Exactly what I needed to see right now. My brood looks just like that on a hive that swarmed a month ago and hive beetles are already becoming a problem. Thanks for posting this. I'll give them some brood frames and nurse bees from one of my hives that's booming.

    You are my favorite beekeeper! I am not sure how I missed this video but I really wish that I saw this last year. I would love to hear more about EFB and your hypothesis on causes. Thanks so much for these videos.

    The only time I have seen these conditions is when I have made a split without shaking in sufficient young bees to properly care for the brood. Thanks for confirming what I was thinking....Wish I lived near enough to visit you....But it's not likely to happen....Rick in Pa.

    I’ve heard of American Foul Brood (AFB) but European is a new one to me. 🙂 I appreciate the videos.

      You should take a Beekeeping class and read more books so you can be aware of all the problems that “could” sneak up on the bees before you know it.

    Could you please share with all of us the top 3-5 signs to look for in a dearth. I'm confused about this. Thank you.

    This is exactly what I’m seeing in one of my three new colonies. All I’ve got is new colonies though, so I’m not sure how I can boost their numbers.

    Why does Varroa or under nutrition cause such horrible laying patterns?

    Do I have a problem? My hive swarmed and I have several open queen cells. I think I saw a virgin queen but there is very little brood but the brood box is packed full of nectar and I have 2 honey suppers on top, the top one is packed full of honey and the second is being worked on. The hive is still full of bees. What do I do?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully the virgin comes back mated but sounds like she needs room to lay do you have a frame of emerging brood you could give from another colony? Or could you extract some honey and free up laying room that way??

      Two weeks till queens disappear

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EFB resistance is something we breed for. Queens that show signs with no reasonable stressors (mites) (lack of coverage) (lack of nutrition) is requeened. AFB, which is rare, is deadly and I have never had it. If I did I would burn the hive as it is extremely contagious and devasting.

    • @ratpackcolorado
      @ratpackcolorado 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good I tested for both with test kits from bee store. Both neg. looked like yours. Off white spoiled milk look.dry looking. Two weeks later queens left .

    Hi Kamon, how do you get cool smoke and not hot smoke from your smoker. I find my smoker is mostly blowing hot smoke. I shove green grass and green leaves in it to help cool it but is there something different I should be doing or using?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just use pine needles, grass clippings or hay. As long as the smoker is not stoked to much it stays cool-warm. When it gets hot it is time to add more fuel

      @@kamonreynolds ok so the tip to cool it off is add more fuel gotcha & Thank you

    Hello Kamon. Ive been watching your vids since i started beekeeping. And you are very informative and helpful in every possible way. But here now i have the same problem with this and seems like all the dead larvae turns into mummies and i was suspecting it was chalkbrood at first then i notice it was actually lacking of bee coverage. It was my fault in the beginning that i swith all of the frames into my other colonies to equalize and to the point that they all have the same problem now. So my question is.. What should i do where i cant be able to reinforce some bees since i only have 3 colonies and all of them lacks bee reinforcements. what should i do? Thank you Kamon

    • @cmathews5909
      @cmathews5909 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FEED. I saw the same mummy biz today and I too was guilty of moving frames to make splits. I'm going to feed them with SW and pollen patties (very small) for two and half weeks, and then treat for mites.
