    ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on TH-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

I love your demonstration of the little lamb skins for adopting lambs on. It was interesting to see the process up close and that there is a method to make the skin into little lamb pajamas so it stays on the little lamb.

Lizzie what we used to call a 'Super Mom', women sold on the idea that they could be all..., do all ... and still come home and take care of everything around a spotless house and have 2.4, polite, clean, well behaved kids. I know from personal experience, it can't be done! I really admire her and am blown away by everything she does... while breastfeeding! The toll the long hours and hard work she does everyday should not be overlooked. She's one very special woman who needs support to be 'Super' ... like the people I see your have helping out around the sheep. Lizzie doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys washing dishes, so I hope you have similar help to take up the duties around the house and as her husband, encouraging her to put up her feet once in a while (foot rubs might be appreciated) and leaving the dishes for tomorrow - not to worry, somehow they are always there... unless you decide to do them? And get her some blue - periwinkle blue - Sheep Game garments - just for her. Love you guys and I don't want to see you burn out. Take care...

Cammy, You need your own show. I am never bored with the content you share with us. Lizzy, I've been there too, cutting nails and nicking the skin. Breaks your heart but kids are resilient. And Meg, she is incredible. I find myself repeating what you say to Meg, to my Australian Shepherd. He too is brilliant but he just looks at me, like i'm crazy.

Unfortunately skinning is a part of survival but I do agree with so many kids watching it was probably better not to show it.
You all do such a great job on all aspects of the farm. Getting to show how things are not always perfect is a good thing. Plenty more sheep to lamb. You will show us days you don’t get a moments rest. Enjoy it now.

I watched another TH-camr who skinned a lamb. She set the camera low down so less gory at that angle and ran at a fast speed which made a lot less obvious what was happening. Wasn’t a bad way of doing it.

    • @danaridings6387
      @danaridings6387 ปีที่แล้ว

@@robinhall3347 I am an avid hunter so skinning doesn’t bother me in the least. I think kids should see it and understand it but so many very young kids are watching it may affect them. Mine have been exposed it it since birth.

    • @catherine_404
      @catherine_404 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When a farmer does it to save another lamb, they do it with all the proper feelings. But there is indeed a possibility that sick people you don't want to encourage would watch such content. It's ok for kids to see, to know it, but it's their parents should control the pace of such disturbing knowledge entering their life so it wouldn't be traumatic, it's better that such content wouldn't suddenly appear in generally "family friendly" videos.
Mine is just another personal opinion, but that's how I understand Cammie deciding not to show it, and I agree with him. His approach to content is very balanced, not overly cautious, but enough warnings to something you should consider well before showing to your kids. Or watching at lunch.

I guess I'm sick 😂 I wouldn't mind seeing how you skin a lamb, but simply because I've never seen it done. Ive grown up farming and im in vet school so things like that intrigue me. Theres a vet on here that shows the process of doing necropsies on animals and what to look for for varies causes of death, I find that interesting as well. Meg really is an incredible dog. I never get tired if watching her work. You're so lucky to have her. Fern seems to be more like Sandi's dog Kinsey... she's got the spirit but the execution isn't quite there 😄

It is heartbreaking when a dog ages out, especially as they are mentally there but not physically able. Luckily Meg's still in good nick. I always retired my dogs to pet homes, so they didn't have the anxiety of being left behind, when I'd take a younger dog out to work and their last years were spent lounging in sunbeams with not a care in the world.

Don't worry Lizzy we've all cut a bit of skin when trimming wee nails. It's very tricky. I was a nanny for years and you feel even worse when it's not your kid. 🤦 But I tell you using those tiny clippers is when Ive cut skin. If you use the adult ones they are wider than the finger and nail, so you don't get the corners catching the skin. I hope that makes sense.

Thank you for not showing the skinning process, hard enough to see lambs/sheep dead! Putting the skin on a lamb you want fostered is something I haven't seen.

How long do you leave the skin on the new lamb after it has been accepted by it's new mom? Love watching the field work and Meg working with you. Your ability to catch the ewes with her working along side you is impressive. I have done a little herding with border collies and sheep so really enjoy watching a true working dog.

Not long the skins start to rot and smell bad so get them off as soon as the jobs done

Usually a maximum of 2-3 days, before it goes rancid. Most ewes will take the lamb by day 2

Please don’t apologize that the lambing as it goes is not the content you intended. I’m sorry that what might feel like audience expectations puts a filter on what your doing there. Being a TH-camr means you’re essentially doing 3 jobs atm, shepherd, family and creator. We all see the joys and sadness, successes and struggles in what you and Lizzie and your helpers go through and I personally take it as a gift that you take the time to film and share.
One question, is there any chance that using the textile tups is part of why the lambs are so big? I remember you had a spring when using big rams caused lambing issues a few years back. Through watching way too many shepherd channels, I’ve learned that Textiles are, as you put it, stonkers.
I now have a dream to not only visit (and never leave 😊) Scotland but to do it when you do one of the lamb feeding days. Someday.
My best to the whole Sheep Game team.

Meg I think says at the end there that she might be old but for a 72 year old lady she’s still got it (11 in dog years)

I was fully prepared to keep listening as you skinned the lamb, but I was going to pull up a different screen so I didn't have to watch the process. I was going to come back once the harshest part was over, which happened to be only a few seconds!

You talk about your dog getting old, can you go into how you train a new dog and if you have them work with the older dog to watch and learn?

I didn’t know the story about sheep’s clothing was based on reality. Cool.

TH-cam would demonetise the vlog if you showed the skinning. you did a really skilful job with the skinning. The lambs with abdominal fluid retention pre natal is something I have not seen before.

    Good morning from Northern California!!
Nice to see you hard at work, as usual!
Lambing appears to be on it's way.
Do you keep count on the number of lambs born each Lambing, the number you loose, etc.
Some where along the line I saw you care for 850 sheep, is that correct?
Looking forward to your next Vlog. Enjoy seeing your smiling face!!
