I love watch the kids helping Bri milk Alice, heck they ask to help. What a pleasure to see productive nice kids. They are so lucky to be raised by you all on your homestead in the foothills and Mountainous country. Stay safe.

Our middle daughter was a very big baby (10 pounds one week before my due date). She nursed constantly. She was the only one of the 3 that bit me. That first and only time she drew blood so I had to lay her on her blanket on the floor to get a tissue to stop the bleeding. She screamed like a banshee, but she never did it again. Thank goodness!
My grandpa had a dairy farm and after nursing 3 babies, I completely understood and appreciated that he was so particular about miking his cows on schedule.
    Love your videos!

Many many many years ago( mid 1950’s) my aunt had four milk cows. The highlight of my sleepovers with her or my grandmother was milking the cows with Lillie in the morning. She would milk each cow, collect the milk bring it into the house and heat it on the stove to pasteurize it. Next she would skim cream and milk she need for herself and what was left would be picked up by the local dairy to be processed and sold. In those days the Milkman came to your house and left bottles of milk cream butter and eggs a couple of times a week. Everything tasted so good!

Just a suggestion, Art, but Alice looks like her back feet need to be trimmed. They are too long and sitting at the wrong angle. I am not an expert but have owned milk cows for most of my 82 years.

If you have access to eheat straw baled in field spread for scatch there be some grain for them to find also put out some sand and small pea size gravel for them needed for gizzard to grind seeds ect

Art's comment about beard grabbers reminded me of when my niece was about 3 and she grabbed my mustache and gave it a real good yank. She pulled it so hard I thought she was trying to start a lawn mower. Lol. Although it hurt like the dickens, I didn't get upset with her. I explained to her that pulling someone's mustache or hair wasn't nice and it's something she shouldn't do. She's still a sweetheart, plus she hasn't pulled my mustache again, at least not to date. Lol.

They will probably come off when they want to dry Alice off before the next calf is due. That gives Alice time to build up her strength. Unfortunately the family will not get any milk during that time. Keeping the calves on her lets them milk sporadically when they want/need milk themselves. Otherwise Alice could get mastitis from inconsistent milking or she might even dry up spontaneously. Same answer as the other viewer just a bit more detailed. 😊 Be blessed.
