- Today I plant our flower border around a fountain I bought secondhand. I use a combination of California native drought tolerant plants and small compact flowers. As a newbie gardener I faced some challenges with heat.

Is there anything you can’t do!?😉 Everything looks great! We have that clay soil too, what a bummer! Very difficult to dig in!! I LOVE your water fountain! (Sweetie, you need to get some yard gloves. You need to protect your hands. Our hands age with the abuse we give them. Keep your pretty hands and nails pretty.)

The garden is looking great Melba! Love the new planting. Argh I made so many mistakes with my balcony garden so now I do my research properly and it saved me a fortune 🤭
Melba, your place looks welcoming and wonderful! What a CHARMING area. It makes me want to move to the Pacific Northwest. I have been working on repairing, replacing, and improving my front yard for the past 3 months. We had to have our main sewer line replaced, so that meant tearing out half my garden and a trench that was about 25 feet long and 7 feet deep. Most of that seemed to be the incredibly dense clay and old aggregate, along with a LOT of rock, big and small (l now have a new rock path alongside my garage!). After a LOT of intense digging and tilling, half the front lawn has been removed and smoothed. I decided on micro clover and a small amount of a short native grass. It stays green, doesn’t need cut, and is pollinator friendly. Much more to do, but an end is in sight by the fall.

Melba your the best! Don’t forget to wear gloves to keep those pretty young’s hands safe. As for the plants when I lived in Carly I planted in the ground and watered them real goo due to those heat waves and when planted in the ground I’m sure you know they just come back every year. It looks AMAZING

@@MelbaMakes my Daniel’s oldest son is here for a week I’m on my way to Arizona to spend time with my girl yeahhhhhhh…….. she said it’s 114 degrees, so for one week save egg shell, any peals potato, orange etc. make a mulch out of it and feed the plants

My daughter still hasn't had her baby yet but is now going to have an emergency c-secion tomorrow morning. Little girl is too comfortable. she does not want to come into this world until she is ready. There are some complications tomorrow's, the big day. Enjoy the rest of your week ♥️

My poor hydrangea is in a pot and in the house now. I live in Northern California and it gets hot! There just isn’t enough shade and too many hot days.
😢 I hope it’s doing better in your home 🌷 I recently learned about plant shade cloths, I haven’t tried them yet but will be looking into them!
It looks beautiful! I planted a little lime hydrangea on Saturday and have yet to plant my double knock out rose. It is hot here in Texas, but not as hot as it is going to get.😅 Have a good week!

If you do lose any of your plants, most nurseries and garden centers will replace them for either 30 or 60 days. And they definitely need lots of water as they’re rooting in.

Thank you! I believe it’s loropetalum,Chinese fringe flower (I show one I got at Home Depot at the beginning of the video but I have to return it because it looks like they come in slightly different varieties of flowers and leaves!)
You have to drench them in water after putting in your drip system
