the palette she is talking about is her own palette of her lifestyle like she loves dark purple, short hair, vintage stuff that's her palette
to add on, iu herself said that she likes palettes more than the actual painting. because it's all the colors that she uses, which is all the things she likes that makes her, her lol. IDK if I said that right but yuh
to add on again, she once said she used to just follow what her company let her do about her music. after a few years thinking she has been a perfect painting which her company made. but now she found herself she has more than just following what other people designed. she rather wants to be a palette which has lots of undefined colors that can make her accomplish something more about herself
That is true in some way but she said there is another reason y this song's title is palette. she said when she was young, she thought palette is prettier than the painting. She forgot about this fact and she remembered it as she learned about herself. When you listen to twenty three, she is ambiguous about herself and kept throwing question to herself. However, in this song, she is making statement about what she like and hate. Therefore, like palette, since she now clearly distinguish between what she likes better and what she dislikes, the title of this song is palette.
The song symbolizes how as IU is growing older she realizes her own likes and dislikes as a person and is truly understanding her own self. For example, she talks about how she prefers short hair over long hair, the color dark purple, even the types of pajamas as well. GD bars also highlight how IU should not worry too much about the past or the future because she is the perfect age of 25 not too old or too young and she should focus on being herself and block out what others say. Palette is the perfect title for the song because just like how their are many unique and different aspects of IU there is also many different and unique colors on an artist's palette.
to add on this explanation, IU had a previous song "23" which is connected to "Palette". So I recommend watching that mv too. In that MV, she talks about the confusion of what she wants to do and who she is. It really shows the growth between the two songs. so please react to IU '23'!!!!!
EDIT: also when she said the line " I did look beautiful when I sang 'One fine day'" she was talking about her hit song "good day' which gained her major popularity and her title as the nation's little sister. so I recommend listening to IU 'good day' as well

Gdragon’s verse was cute. She asked him to help her in the song so they collaborated. They’re good friends
iu has a song called 'twenty-three' which is about how she feels about being 23/how her year was like/the things she's learnt. then she has 'palette' which is about what her life is like at 25 and then there's 'eight' which is about what her 28th year was like. iu writes her own lyrics and this little age series is just her talking about her life. also, she's a phenomenal actress and has acted in multiple dramas but you should DEFINITELY check out hotel deluna
Hotel del luna is a high production drama but "my mister" It's always my favorite it has a deep & heartwarming life lessons BEAUTIFULLY decpicted by a drama which makes it such a masterpiece.

Palette is about the acceptance of herself - different shades of yourself, and not just one. And she is gonna like what she likes, do what she does, whether it’s out of style/not mainstream or whether u hate her/ like her. It’s about being yourself no matter what others think too.

IU has been acting since the age of 17 so she's in a LOT of Kdramas. She has this thing where she releases tracks on her birthdays. We have 23, palette (25) and eight (she's 28 in Korean age). Also, people have already explained the meaning behind the song but IU is a genius when it comes to lyrics and symbolism.
She's amazing, a genius. She really likes to used numbers on her songs and talk about herself, like when she turned 23 it was the song Twenty-three, then palette for when she was 25 and now that she's 28 she relased Eight. She's 27 but in Korean age she's 28, remember koreans have this thing about their ages that when a baby is born they said the baby is 1 year old, so everybody has one more year.
About a drama, I liked more her drama Moon Lovers: Scarlett Heart Ryeo, but wherever Hotel De Luna it's ok.

IU is a really good actress!! you should watch her dramas Scarlet Heart (historical drama, baekhyun is also a cast and a lot of good actors, this one is pretty underrated in korea but very popular international), My mister is really good it's on netflix and its pretty popular in korea and also her most recent drama which is on netflix it's called Hotel De Luna it's really GOOD!! SHE IS STUNNING THERE it's really good you should check these dramas out but highly recommended is Scarlet Heart and Hotel De Luna you won't be disappointed i swear
Palette here means the different colours of a person's personality. And in the song she also used a line which basically says that as she is growing and now reached 25, she likes things like "palette, diary..." more... This can mean that she is more thoughtful and self-reflective and in tune with her self now.
This symbolism comes for the idea that an Artist's Palette🎨 and a Diary both represent the art/inner thoughts of an artist which comes from imagination, contemplation and self-relection.

They are both 93’ liners and great songwriters so she wanted to collab with him :)

IU explains this in the interviews: Back then in her childhood in school, she remembers there was time when she love the colors in her palette in her hand more than her painting in the canvas. she's actually in quite a few kdramas. hotel del luna is her most recent drama but she's in one with the main actor for "it's okay not to be okay" and it's on netflix,, the drama is called "the producers". her acting is very good, i would definitely recommend you watch her kdramas or at least hotel del luna

Hotel Del Luna is too but I feel I dont hear enough people talk about her in My Mister and it's a shame cuz she was AMAZING and the whole show has such a BEAUTIFUL story. I highly suggest checking out her dramas as well as PERSONA on Netflix. Its like four mini movies and she plays the main character in all of them. My favorite is The Collector

To have a deeper understanding of the song you kind of need to understand IU’s career as a singer. She’s even bigger than BTS in Korea. She’s huge. For years, she was considered the country’s sweetheart and they held her to an impossible standard that affected how she even perceived herself. This song is her coming to terms with/liking the person she’s become.
The way I interpreted it is that all the things she listed are things that are part of her "palette". Like those are the components or characteristics that makes her, her. The palette meaning she is using can be similar to how you would describe a food palette; it's that person's taste. And then the lyric of her saying "I think now I know who I am a little" she is learning things that she likes as she is entering adulthood. And GD even mentions that she is at the in between age where she isn't a child but not an adult either and he was saying that at the age of 30. So she keeps on mentioning her age of 25 because its the halfway point of like teen and full blown adult (20 to 30).

IU for being so young has gone through a lot in her career, both acting and singing. She was criticized for so much from being in a relationship with someone a decade older than she is, to misinterpreted lyrics, to honestly mental health issues such as eating disorders. She has persevered through it all and honestly came out on top because she is a talented QUEEN!

Originally it has to do with the different colors on a slab that an artist would use to paint with. Each painting requires it's own unique palette, or the set of colors that brought it into life and work towards defining it. So, too, do each of us have our own unique colors that make up our persona. These are hers.
